Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Nice content! Good use of images 🙂 My suggestion: consider using more tags. Right now, it looks like you only use one or two — you can use up to 15 tags and categories total; they help readers find your posts. Consider adding “poetry” or “creative writing” or other keywords to help new readers find you.

    1. I needed to read this post today! I love the look of the blog and great layout – it provides loads of great content without seeming too busy.

Potentially one improvement could be to link through to your other posts within each article. It’s something I’m trying at the moment so I’ll let you know how it goes!

Please feel free to give any comments on mine – I’m pretty much clueless right now!

    1. Just commented! Nice content, good use of images. My suggestion: cut some tags. Once you have more than 15 tags and categories total, WordPress blocks your post from Reader 😦 Looks like this post had more than 15.

    2. I just read your post, It’s great how open and honest to yourself you are, it takes a lot of experience in writing to be able to do that. Also, the way you write just sort of allows for everyone to be able to relate which ties in with the mental imagery. However, the thing you said about actual imagery, I couldn’t really see any. I guess since it’s a post about how movies affected you can’t really go into describing specific things, but maybe specific situations where your learning came into application? Really good post and style otherwise though! 😀

    1. Just commented. Nice content, good use of tags. My suggestion: consider adding another image! Blogging is a very visual medium and another image will draw the reader’s eye in. 🙂 You can also include the apple image in the actual post, too!

      1. Thank you! I did feel like an image or two would have made the whole thing look more attractive… I’ll keep your advice in mind and try to implement it in my next post.
I will look at your blog. Thanks again!

    1. Nice content! I don’t think you need to include hashtags in your tags (for example, you have “#life” as one of your tags in your post “Fix You.”) You can omit the hashtags 🙂

    2. I love the simplicity of the design, and the colour scheme is perfect for a blog about tea! It’s obvious you’ve done your research and are knowledgeable about the subject and I love that you link out when you’re mentioning places. It’s a bugbear of mine – a sign of the times that I’m too lazy to just google something myself! Maybe consider adding some more imagery on the posts that aren’t Cake Diaries – you take lovely photos so share them everywhere!

  5. I’ve been incorporating my original music to fit in with my original writings, and have been pairing them as such. I’d love to get feedback on the posts with music (the most recent ones) to know what it adds to my post, along with my overall theme of the blog.
    Thank you!

    1. Hello Fastidious,

      Thank you for sharing.

I think your concept of pairing the music with the writing is very unique, creative, and interesting.

I tried reading the two most recent posts while playing the music. I am not sure if my system is not allowing it to sound right, or if maybe you are working with limited equipment, which I totally understand as I am doing that with my writing. I wonder if there is a way to ensure that the music sounds clear?

I think it would help the reader to make it a bit more clear what the connection of a particular post is with the music you paired.

It would be so awesome if you continued with this concept!!

      Thank you!!!

I’ll continue on with this though! Appreciate you

I LOVE your site. Using several shades of the same color is really lovely, and unique. I love the background, and the layout. I find it fun, happy, inviting and easy to navigate.

I also really enjoyed your reflection on being an artist. This post is beautifully written!!!

      Happy Thanksgiving, fellow Canadian 🙂

    1. I think your layout looks good 🙂 My suggestion: do you use categories and tags? Categories organize posts within your blog, and tags help new readers find them. You can use 15 total per post. Consider using these to help increase traffic!

Thank you for sharing your blog 🙂

I really enjoy how bright, clean and open your site feels. I love the posts where you have included a picture – it draws the reader in….maybe include more pictures…

I love your concept of ‘surviving the world’…and ‘being on an adventure’. Maybe share more about what the adventure is that you are on. It would lovely to hear more about this, and may also help to convey to the reader what your focus is on.

      Thanks!!!

      🙂

    3. I would definitely start utilizing tags and categories as you’ll steadily see a rise in readership from WordPress reader. It makes it easier for people to discover your writing which is really interesting, by the way.

    1. I can’t tell you what to write about or not write about — you’ll need to decide that, but I do have a suggestion: do you use categories and tags? Categories organize posts within your blog, and tags help new readers find them. You can use 15 total per post. Consider using these to help increase traffic!

    2. Hello 🙂

Thank you for sharing your blog!

I think your topics are very interesting. I think when you have included photos in a post, it really helps to draw the reader in.

You may want to consider having a header photo, or something to convey the message of what your blog posts are about, or what your theme is, or what you focus on.

You may also want to consider playing around with color formatting to bring the site together more cohesively.

      Thanks !!!

      🙂

    3. I agree with Natalie that you need to decide your own topics. Know why you are blogging and stay true to yourself. I like the ideas in your post on arguments. You do have a few spelling/grammar errors. For example: “arguments is something to be avoided” should be “arguments are something to be avoided.” https://gracelead.co
