First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

  1. Hey there,

I just started blogging about some episodes from my life. Currently I’m writing about my teenage phase, a couple of years ago. Six anecdotes are already online, more are to come in the next weeks. Maybe I will arrive in the present time someday 🙂

The posts are a bit longer than usual, I want to take a short story approach.

    Oh, btw, it’s in German!

    Enjoy!

  2. Hi peoples!

I only joined wordpress a few days ago, I love the community and the more interactive posts like this one that let you contribute. Anyway, this is my first post, it’s pretty heavy but I hope it makes for an engaging read:

  3. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share your (recent) first post or leave a supportive comment, please head to the Community Pool, which is where any blogger can seek feedback on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

  4. I created my blog two months ago, but wrote my first blog post last week. Since I am a total newbie it just “updated” my created blog first post and says “two months ago” but I swear it was last week. It took me almost two months to find the courage to actually write it… Thanks for having a look. I appreciate it.

    1. Have a little more confidence in yourself. What I read was interesting and I don’t think you need to worry. Stay true to what you want to write and others will see the beauty in your words.

  5. I set up & launched the blog in time for National Poetry Day #introtopoetry as was inspired by John Maher’s photography of the Outer Hebrides in his recent ‘Nobody’s Home’ exhibition in Glasgow. His blog is theflyingmonk and he kindly gave me permission to use some of his photo’s above my poems. This is one of them and my foray into blogging about being a part time writer

  6. In a first for me, I have just included three poems on my most recent blog. I have a plan! I have the opportunity to possibly get them included in a wedding brochure, so that it where you come in. I would really appreciate it if you could imagine that you are about to get married and you could choose one of these poems as a reading at your wedding. Which one would you choose and why? Also, can you see anywhere I can improve? Your feedback would be really helpful. Thanks in advance.

    1. Welcome! Looks like you’ve got lots of placeholder text on your blog’s home page, and lots of things that need to be configured — you can find all the details for your theme here: https://wordpress.com/themes/shoreditch

(You might want to start out with something a little simpler; this theme is really meant for businesses that want a home page and lots of secondary pages, and it takes a bit of setup to get it looking like the demo.)
