Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Aloha neighbors!

Anyways… I have revived my blog for rape and abuse survivors. I’m trying to build a community where everyone who has a blog that speaks about their own experience can connect with others. A resource, of sorts. I also write my own posts and thoughts on the subject.

I was hoping a few people could check out my site, and tell me if my intended goal is clear. I’m still working on building it, and getting back into it after a few months off. I want to have an involved community of similar bloggers, and I’m not sure I get that message across. Anyways, I would appreciate some input! And I would also love to read any blogs that have to do with rape, DV, or abuse, and add them to my site!

    1. Hi Deb!
I really like the rotating header, and the clean lines you have using your template.I would suggest trying a different colour scheme (lavender, rather than red perhaps?) for your social buttons and Links.
The most work needs to be done on your home page: a lot of it is empty or filled with “text text text”. I actually find that I do not need a home page, because I have no static text or image I want to display. Maybe your blog landing page can just be your home page? Otherwise I would suggest adding photographs to each post, so that they all appear side by side on the home page.
      Hope these thoughts help!

  2. I wonder if it’s still active here at the pool the tail-end of the week….

Hi everyone! I just got back into blogging, and my blog is a mix of creative writing + real life adventures. Constructive criticism on any of the pieces posted is very welcomed.

I’m still second guessing my layout at the moment. I don’t really like sidebars, but I’m not sure if the pages are navigable enough as it is. Thoughts?

    1. Sorry, but I had to laugh at the attempts at the corrections. Especially since it was completely unnecessary. (I understand how you feel, though. My comment had a typo, too, and I was a bit distressed when I noticed it, but decided to just let it go. ;))

I left a comment on your poem. Hope you don’t mind me pointing out the corrections!

  4. Hello. Happy New Month Bloggers. Too Happy to have seen this day. So my question is, from the day you were born to this day, what are you really thankful for in life? You can answer that after you read what am thankful for in life as today’s post. Here’s the link; https://myverytrendy.wordpress.com/2016/10/01/home-is-not-a-place-its-a-feeling/
You can tell me what you thankful for here on the community pool or in the area comment on my post.
Don’t be afraid to join the conversation.
    Thank you!

    1. The girl in the photo certainly looks very happy! So I would agree with your title that her smile is kind and welcoming. Although it is a little difficult to notice at first because the photo isn’t as clear.

  5. Hello, everyone! I like my blog to be easy to read. I get frustrated on other blogs when they talk about something in a photo and I have to scroll back up to find what they are talking about. Because of that, I talk about the photo and post it underneath the explanation, omitting a caption. Does anyone else do this? Is it easier to read this way? Which do you prefer? frugalfish.org/2016/09/16/september-decoration/

    1. To me it depends. If the comments don’t lead me to look at the photo again, then seeing the photo first is fine. Ideally, the photo would be beside the text describing it. In your fitbit post, either way would work for me since I wasn’t able to see the detail well on the photo and therefore wouldn’t be scrolling back and forth. https://gracelead.co

  6. Hi Community, I was wondering if it would be possible to get some feedback on my film blog. Recently put up a review of Zootopia. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    1. I like your review! I haven’t seen the film but want to now, as you mentioned it explores complex topics! I love when animated films explore real life issues in an effort to better educate our youth!
