Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

The Community Pool will be closed for maintenance next Monday, September 19. We look forward to seeing you on the pool deck the following Monday, September 26.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

      1. Thank you! It is supposed to look like pop art cartoon-like so maybe I need to tweak that aspect. There are grid lines across my face and the words which are probably making it look grainy. Thank you SO MUCH for the feedback. I’ll check out your site. 👍🏽😊

      2. My husband, being a guy and, well, my husband, thinks it’s SEXUAL. The point I am making with this logo is that I am saying the phrase and the look on my face is one of shock/surprise/oh-my-gosh-I-can’t-believe-you’re-drawing-with-your-poop. It’s not my “O” face. Believe me. That face doesn’t look this pretty.

      1. Thank you very much–your kind words mean a lot! I like the topic of authentic living too; it allows me to explore a bunch of topics, especially ones I never thought I would write on.

    1. Your home page is…empty. Add a picture or write a quick blurb welcoming people or something. Especially since your menu links aren’t very large, making sure people know there is more to your blog is key.
      Happy Blogging!

  1. Hi guys, am very sad today. just this morning my friend tried to take his own life. His been going through so much in his life over the years but i never knew he would give up now. I really hurt. I have had suicidal thoughts myself but I wouldn’t say I was depressed. It was just a fucked up point in my life. But for him I do not think, its the same. I think his depressed. His hopeless. Kindly, read my post and advice me on how I can help him. Am scared and I don’t have ways to help him. https://myverytrendy.wordpress.com/2016/09/15/he-feels-empty-inside/

    1. My blog has to do with the struggles of living with anxiety and depression. Many posts are about how I see and experience things along with the frustration of feeling misunderstood. Feel free to read any of my posts to be able to understand and relate better to how he is feeling.

Your friend may not be able to snap out of it as you wish he could – he may even be frustrated himself that he can’t “fix himself.” The best thing you can do and simply listen and tell him he is loved and needed. Even if he doesn’t talk, knowing you’re there for him (without and strings attached) will comfort him.

Hope that helps! I will be praying for him

    1. Hey Maddie,
I really love your theme, the page looks great. I am not religious so probably not the kinda thing I personally would read but you’re a beautiful writer, I really liked ‘Dear you’.

    2. Great post! I also liked your “dear you” post. Your choice of Bible verses throughout your blog are some of my favorites. Your writing style is easy to read and enjoyable – keep it up!

    1. Spent a few minutes bouncing around your site, which is very engaging and visually attractive. I like the way you intersperse photos through your posts, enough to capture the experience without your writing getting lost in them. The writing itself is very enjoyable: unpretentious, conversational, full of useful details and effectively conveying your experience to the reader. Beautiful Instagram photos, by the way. Nice work.

  2. I hope it’s ok to post twice in a week….the Walk To End Alzheimer’s is this Saturday the 17th. I’d like to share a post I wrote a few weeks ago in memory of my mother and to honor my friend’s mother. It also includes a link to a music video that explains Alzheimer’s thru the eyes of the person suffering. Sometimes music says things that words cannot. I hope you’ll have a look and I promise not to post twice in one week again!

    1. Your blog is hilarious – almost everybody blogging starts to take it all too seriously and try and please everybody somewhere along the way (guilty) but it’s brilliant to stumble across some light-hearted, “screw you, I’m writing because it’s fun” kind of humor. Keep inflicting your anecdotes on the world, I will follow for an occasional dose of realness. Thanks!

      1. Thank you for the kind words. I am so flattered! Go ahead and use some of those quotes, they are good ones. I will make sure to check out your blog. Thank you for the read:)

    1. Hello! I love your theme, it’s a beautiful layout and the feature pictures really stand out. I have noticed something you might want to play with though – you have a tagline / quote under your main header which is in a thin lined black font, but the background picture used in your header has some black behind it too, which makes it really hard to read that lovely quote. It might be worth looking at the font options for your theme to see if a bolder font or different colour would make it more readable, or alternatively, may need to change to a new header picture, which would be a shame, because otherwise it looks great!

    1. Hi Kael, I love those eyes at the top of your page, what a great cover! I’m not sure if you already know, but the “Home” link is not working on your page. It takes me to a “This page has been deleted by the author” placeholder from WordPress. Not sure if you’re in the middle of some site maintenance, but thought you might want to know 🙂

      1. Thank you! I appreciate that. I changed my site name so I’m sure that has something to do with it. I’ll fix it asap. Thanks again!
