Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

The Community Pool will be closed for maintenance next Monday, September 19. We look forward to seeing you on the pool deck the following Monday, September 26.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Hi There, just saw your blog. It looks great. You have a good theme and great pictures. In the food post I think you should consider adding more pictures. I also liked your graphic Art!

Do you mind having a look at my blog and giving me some feedback. I will appreciate it 🙂

      1. Hi! I love your website! That lemon squeezer looks so fashionable. I think newbies like us should just keep going and keep posting! Also we need to get into SEO to get more traffic.
Thank you for complimenting my graphic art! I also design logos for free if you are interested, as I am getting into it and building my portfolio. Just message me if you are interested 🙂 Have a great day!

  1. Hi! I’m gonna be specific. Which might be annoying, so, sorry!!!! I want to add more pictures to my poems but I don’t know what kind of pictures to use. Do I used generic landscapes, pictures that represent the mood or pictures to do with the plot of the poem? Thanks, and any other advice is MUCH appreciated.
    Merci beaucoup,

    1. Why not dive into Wikimedia Commons? Just about everything (if not everything) is under Creative Commons license, so it’s all good as long as you give credit where it’s due (which is most of what I use). The same might be said about Flickr, but I’ve not gotten directly anything from them (but many might have a Creative Commons license too). Why not also check out morguefile.com? I’ve gotten some high-quality stuff there in the past, but don’t forget to credit the authors as well!

    2. I think both would work. In fact, it might be nice to see a photo on one poem that conveys mood and on the next poem see one that relates to the plot. Also, it will depend on what photos you can find. You may want something related to the plot, but are unable to find one; however, you discover one related to the mood. https://gracelead.co

  2. Hi everyone

Hope you are all enjoying the start of a new week!

I have recently updated a new post and revamped my blog to include a Gallery (parts of it still under construction). It would be lovely to have your feedback. Please also include your blog details so I can return the favour.

    1. Ah, yes. Welcome to the WP community. We don’t have cookies, but seek and you shall find…about probably three dozen *really* bang-on recipes, some of them even really good without chocolate chip, if you can believe such a thing…

Anyway. Now that you’re settling in, it would do you well to spend an afternoon in the Customizer just to see how your blog theme behaves, play with colors, replace/get rid of Text Widgets and WP default texts, and so on. Try it!

  3. Me-O-My-O:Almost a week has gone by since my blog has been relaunched with a brand-new name(KALEIDOSCOPE), and already I have become a minor hit(if not major)! And it is just about to get even better with some brand-new posts that I have just published in the past few days, including one on the 15th anniversary of 9/11. Once again, my heartfelt thanks to all of my fellow bloggers and blog followers for returning their love to me with open arms, and for bearing with me in times when I just could not post each day; And my thanks once again also to WordPress, the company that has hosted my blog, for giving me encouragement when I needed it most, and for allowing me to share what I love with all of my heart and soul to the public. So, if you haven’t checked out KALEIDOSCOPE yet, then why the heck not?! Just visit http://www.j2w7.WordPress.com!-😉

  4. Hello! I’ve started a new blog and I’m tying to find out works best for me! Are you more drawn to pictures? Personal info? Or informative? I’ve tried to do a variety and I’m sill trying to find my voice. Any comments or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    1. Hey, just saw your blog. You have great theme and the home page looks attractive in the tiled layout. The images are great – they look very high quality. When I click on the “About” It opens in a new tab – so is that intentional? Perhaps you could look into that.

Do you mind having a look at my blog. I will appreciate any feedback that you might have 🙂

    1. Hey Nmeri, I just poked through your posts and they were really cool! Your writing is on point girl. 🙂 My only recommendation is that you may want to start using categories for your blog posts to organize things a bit. Also it looks like you have an invalid Facebook URL on your sidebar? Nice work so far!

    1. Your post is lovely. I did notice one small spelling error: “there original beauty” should be “their original beauty.” Also, I noticed you used a lot of tags. If you want a post to show up in the WordPress Reader, you’ll need to limit tags+categories to no more than 15. https://gracelead.co

      1. Thank you very much for the feedback. I’m not really tag savvy, I need to watch for that. I’ll take that into consideration the more I posts, I could do with tightening up the edits too. Thanks for taking the time to read the piece

  6. Social commentator here. Just recently wrote a small rant on how millennials are treating American tragedies such as 9/11.

Will also write about my own personal experiences as a millennial and giving my point of view to social issues and social ideas such as decision making, voting, and psychology. My personality is sassy and witty, and I try to add as much of it in my writing as possible.

Check me out, and follow if you like what you see! All feedback welcome of course.

    1. I really enjoyed your theme and poetry! As a personal preference, if there’s a way to make your home page show a larger variety of posts or to allow for easier navigation I think that would help, but that’s just me!
I would love to know your thoughts on my blog if you have a moment, click on my name and let me know what you think!

    1. Love your writing style!! I read a couple of your posts and really enjoyed your narration – you have such a gift for writing. I look forward to reading more!

Also, the layout and design of your blog is very fitting for your theme. Great pictures!

“Feelings cloaked as words” is a perfect way to describe your blog. Love it.

  7. In again and breathing. My nose is wet. Looking upwards periodically. This length, may I ask for a little feedback on my latest post https://seequoyah.wordpress.com/2016/09/07/twinkle/ inspired by the daily prompt. I wish I could write like an alchemist and transmute what I see and feel into fantastic flights, instead I can offer an earlier post https://seequoyah.wordpress.com/2016/07/28/93/

Comments about other posts or aspects of my blog are welcome if there is anything of interest to anyone.

    Pushing on pressing forward…

      1. Thank you. I find knowing opportunity and being unable to take it due to being in a different time or place physically or mentally is such an odd experience. It is why reaching a lighthouse is easier than reaching out and touching a star at times but both need a little displacement. Eerie and enjoyable I hope for anyone who reads it..

    1. Just stopped by! Nice writing, nice image, good use of tags 🙂 If you’re looking for writing suggestions, consider replacing the verb “to be” with a stronger variation. In your first paragraph, you use a form of “to be” in every sentence! It’s not the strongest verb, and changing as many as you can will strengthen your prose. For example, consider my third sentence: “Though plain, the softness of its exterior suggested a history of hands touching and caressing it.” Omitting ‘to be’ shortens the sentence, giving it a bit more oomph 🙂 This is good for any form of writing — essays, poems, prose, etc.

    1. Hello. I lived in Detroit for a few years for law school back around the Kirkpatrick era, lol. It’s nice to see changes happening. I did want to say it looks like the intro from the WordPress template is still written there at the top so you’ll want to delete that. In addition, are you sure you wouldn’t want a regular website as opposed to a blog? The topic looked as if it may be for a regular website to help assist people with housing. I do love the topic. If interested, take a peek my blog. http://www.theprontiperspective.com
