To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard. Click on a post’s title to open the individual post. Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to their first post with the community! To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here.

Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other links to keep this space focused on new bloggers. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays by visiting a link or two and leaving the bloggers a supportive like or comment.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused with a few other guidelines:

  • If you share a link, visit a few other bloggers as well. New readers for all!
  • Please don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post — it makes it easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” or “Please look at my blog!” comments. They’re a bit spammy, and it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual blogs.
  • To keep from losing your place, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Hi Neha,

Checked out your blog. Looks good. I really like the cover image – it’s attractive and catches the reader’s attention. I would recommend expanding on your “about” page as readers tend to look at what they can expect from the writer before following. Also, its always a good idea to add visuals – maybe a picture of yourself on the “about” page or pictures to go along with your posts?
      Happy blogging (:

      1. Hi Kavina,

Thanks for the valuable suggestions. I would definitely work on that. I added a featured image with my post, but its not showing on the blog, may be its because of the template of blog I am using. I have to work out some stuff. Thanks for visiting. 🙂

        Cheers.

    2. Took a look around, it looks good. I agree with KavaraStories, you should take some time to personalize. If you choose to post someone’s else’s pictures just make sure you have the rights to do so. I suggest your own art or photography. Also spend some time to figure out widgets and what works best for you. This site helped me when I had no idea what a widget even was: http://learn.wordpress.com/
This will help show you how to change the backgrounds, blogrolls and anything else you need to know.
Good luck and I hope you stop by my blog and read a post or two.
      Cheers. -Sheryl

      1. Hi Sheryl,

Thanks for your valuable suggestions. Can I use photographs from the web and give proper credits to the website? I have seen many people do that. I will definitely look at the website for improvement. Thanks again for visiting. Keep in touch.

        Cheers

      3. Hi Sheryl,

I believe I’ve added the widget to the side-bar. I am not sure if it works.

Thank you for the link, and your comment, they will help me a lot.

    1. Hi Ramya,
I checked out your blog – nice start! I recommend getting your About page set up as soon as you can. Readers tend to check out the about section when they come across a new blogger.

  1. Hi there. I am relatively new to the wordpress community, but have been writing poetry, prose, and short stories for years. I am currently working on a novel, but am trying to make my blog a focus as well. I’m a die-hard romantic, drawn to darker themes, sexuality, and self-exploration. Looking forward to meeting some of you and finding more blogs to follow. You can find my first post here: https://atomsandeves.wordpress.com/2016/08/01/first-blog-post/

  2. Hello, I’ve started a blog which is a mashup of my musings and my shorter fiction. If I feel brave enough, I might add poetry someday. Since I’m a law student, I haven’t been consistently writing non-academic material for the past two years, so any feedback would be super helpful. Thank you.

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

  3. I’ve started blogging, and I hope to get something out weekly, and maybe start doing the Daily one word post thingy. Anyway, I hope to connect with people with lessons, by telling stories. Sometime it may be funny, other time more serious! The story could of happen recently, or a while back! I believe there is a lesson in every story, and some might be more hidden then other. Now I know my grammar and spelling isn’t the greatest, but I hope you can help me out! It mean a lot if you give me a chance. I know it isn’t the best idea for a blog, but I hope you like it anyway! https://thehiddenlessonblog.wordpress.com/2016/08/27/first-blog-post/

    1. I think it’s good and has potential. Are you a computer student? If so, would be good to know your tech background. You could have lots of different categories and how to features. Maybe being the blog people go to if they’re stuck at stuff:-)

    1. A tip — I noticed you’re using a lot of tags on your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.
