Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

      1. Me too. I like night time as well. Sure it can be bad sometimes but then it gives so much to ponder as well, especially for us writers. I’ll definitely drop by at your place to read that post. Can you let me know the link to that or maybe it’s name so I can find it easily? 🙂

  1. I’ve just come back from a two week hiatus stronger than ever! My only question is, is my blog too regimented? Monday is books, Wednesday and Thursday are travel right now (usually just Thursday), Friday is Greek Life, and Saturday is Style. Is it too routine? Or do people like to know what’s coming up? Thank you!!

    1. I think it’s good to have a blogging routine if that works for you. I follow several bloggers who do routine posts (e.g. “Weekend Links”) and because I know what’s coming up, I’ll often check in with their blogs to see what they’ve posted. Perhaps try a mixture of both? It’s great to have a routine, but it’s also fun (as a blogger and blog reader) to publish something a little unexpected.

As an aside: when you wrote Greek Life, I checked your blog expecting it to be literally about Greece (one of my favourite countries). And then I realized it’s the other type of Greek life. 😀

    1. Hi Gem

I’m no gardener but I really like your writing style and the page looks the part. I do agree with the comment below though, and would recommend making sure all the ‘example’ text bits are replaced with your own text asap! Nice job so far though 🙂 best of luck with the garden project!

      1. Hi Alexander, thank you for having a look at my blog. Is is because I’m writing the blog on my phone that the example text has remained? I’ve tried to remove it but it is still there unfortunately, any advice would be appreciated. I like your article on meditation and will read more of it later, what I have read so far was brilliant. Kind regards Gemma

      1. Hey,

I just checked this out because I loved the name, but couldn’t quite work out how it relates to the content that you post (which is also good, don’t get me wrong!). Maybe some kind of explanation about how it/what starts with coffee would tie your brand together more strongly?
I hope this is useful in some way, just a thought!

Please feel free to check out my blog and let me know what you think. You’d probably most be interested in the meditation article:

      2. “Well, we really have put our sincere thoughts behind the name and came up with it. It signifies the start of your day which normally does with your favourite cup of coffee. It’s freshness, warmness and energising nature alluded here!
We wanted to present before the world, a blog which would help people gain a fresh perspective towards the world and at the same time entertain them with modern as well as classical literature.
We are still in inception and looking to get closer towards our objective of being a blog about anything and everything that matters!” 🙂

Alexander MJ S, your blog is great and just awesome to say. I was mesmerised with the contents which were really worth the time spent reading them.
Thanks for looking into our blog. 🙂 🙂
        Have a really great day!

      4. Thanks for looking into our blog! Your blog-content is is so great and thoroughly researched. I learnt a great a deal from the last post ‘Angelpoise Lamp’ Loved every bit of it.
Also, ‘They are real!’ post was just great!
We were working on it and have credited most of the pics from Picture of the day/night. Remaining ones will be credited soon as soon as we find the sources again.
We welcome your suggestions and are keeping up the hard- work! ::)

    1. I like the quotes and the animal abilities. You might want to put each post in one category and display a Menu that contains the categories. If one of your readers prefers the quotes, they could click on that category and see them all instead of having to scroll past the other posts. https://gracelead.co

      1. Thank you!! Your book review was awesome, very well written and got me hooked till the end. Maybe you should add more about yourself and the blog to your about page as it is a bit short and for many people it’s the first post that they will read when they discover your blog.

      2. Hi, thanks for taking the time to read such a long post!
That is a very good point – I’ve been pretty lazy with the About section so far and will definitely address that.
        Thanks you,
        Alexander

    1. Tanya, Fab blog !You have been to so many places – this could be a wonderful travel blog.
      Consider the following :
-Add more images to involve readers
-You can have a series of mini posts based on locations within the country visited.
      – A lot of us dont travel purely because we are bad at logistics and planning…consider doing help /guide posts to help people plan their travel to the destinations you have already been

I am from india and I write about beauty, lifestyle and design. Do you mind checking out any one post from my blog and giving me a feedback.

You have a good theme and great use of pictures. Consider crediting the image source and work a little on spellings and grammar to make your writing powerful.

      1. Yeah, I too visited your blog. It’s all about makeup and it’s nice. All the info and products reviews are good.
Credits for image is always Google. I will edit when I get time. Regarding spelling errorsand grammar, I write everything on my phone and it’s a pain. I try as much as possible to edit it but still errors remain there. I will try to improve that too. I know grammatical errors maybe there but regarding spellings,i don’t think there’s a lot of spelling errors. Nontheless, thanks for your feedback.

    1. I think the two column layout works great for your blog and content. Only thing I would suggest is that your About page should be just as much about you, as the idea behind your blog. I learned that people like to see or know more about the person as well. Otherwise, looks great

    2. I like the layout and look of your site. I don’t agree that your About has to be about you. Certainly, if it’s a journal, it’s helpful to tell us about yourself. On the other hand, if your site is not about about you personally, then I think personal info is optional on an About page. https://gracelead.co

I love that book so much (although I haven’t read it) because I’m a little obsessed without cleaning my room and getting rid of objects with bad memories attached to them. Thanks so much for inspiring me to read her book!
