Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Nice blog, it could be good to add the ‘read more’ option to your posts 🙂 like the content too, looking forward to seeing more

      1. When you are writing a post, there should be an option in the line of editing buttons (where you can bold or italic fonts etc) I can only see it on my laptop though which is annoying!
The code can be added in manually to the html editor which is ‘‘ without the ‘ round it, so I always enter down in the html editor and put the more code on a separate line

    1. Hey, I haven’t seen a blog layout like yours before, very unique, I really like it 🙂 I also really like the way you write, the ‘little companion’ post is lovely

    2. Hey

I also love the layout! Nice slogan, ‘thoughts and feelings go down here’. Honest and simple, which makes me like your blog straight away. I read you most recent flash fiction piece, which I found moving, then picked one at random, ‘The Night Before’. I think that one is more effective – the name drew me in as did the creative opening sentence.

      I hope this is useful!

      1. Hello! 😄
Thank you so much for visiting! I thought that slogan summarized what the blog is about. I’m really pleased to hear you enjoyed reading them and your thoughts on them. It all is really valuable feedback,
        Thank you, Alexander! 😄

  3. Hello Beautiful People. I am new in the blogging world and blogging on my travel journey. Anyone who is a travel blogger here that could help me gain more confidence, give feedback and advice or suggestions on my blog, you are more than welcome. Shukran!

    1. Hello Shukran, I like your blog very much. There are only few posts so far but I was quite taken with your pictures which caught my attention right away! The only thing that you should maybe considered is to check your text widget on the right side. I can see that it is there and what it is for but there is no content. Apart from that great job, I’m your new follower 🙂

    2. Hi Shukran

Your photos are stunning! Very inspiring for a fellow blogger who aspires to travel and blog along the way. I really like the Trekking Mt. Apo guide – very informative and ace photos, as are all the others on your blog. I think you could get away with throwing some personal anecdotes in there too – what funny things happened along the way? Which bits did you personally find challenging? Etc.

      Hope this helps!
      Alexander (also a new follower!).

    3. I love your blog! The pictures you include are awesome and with the text it just makes it more personal. I wish to travel a lot too someday, I just have to find a way to afford it:P
You just earned yourself a new follower!

    1. I like the new project you’ve started and that you’ve chosen to share it with your followers:)
Maybe you should take a look at the text widget you’ve got on the right side, there’s nothing written in it, so it just says “text widget”. Hope this helps:)

    2. I agree with you about the harm of helping students cheat on tests. If we allow some students to cheat, the tests are no longer valid, we reinforce the bad behavior of cheaters, those who don’t cheat are treated unfairly, and we have no way to measure if what we are teaching has increased the overall knowledge level of students. https://gracelead.co

    1. Hey. Nice blog you have. You give great advice that many need to hear. The layout on some of the posts was a little difficult to keep up with. You may want to work on different formatting techniques like doing numbered items, bullet items, italics or bold print. It will help break up the monotony (lack of variety). If you could, please check out my blog at: http://merrymadnessblog.wordpress.com Thanks!

    1. Love the “feel” of your blog, the picture of the globe in the header, and in your “about” page your desire for closer community.
Just had a very brief look, liked what I saw enough to follow.
      Happy blogging! 🙂

  5. Hi everybody,

I’ve just started blogging and would really appreciate a little feedback along the lines of whether you enjoy the tone of my writing, the content itself, and any tips for building an audience that have worked for you (although if any other areas for improvement jump out at you, let me have it!).

My most recent article is a book recommendation:
    https://thelifeshelf.wordpress.com/2016/08/28/books-on-the-lifeshelf-1-ghostwritten-david-mitchell/

But if meditation and mindfulness is more your bag, try this one:

Feel free to reply here or comment on the posts, thank you! I’ll have a scroll down now and check out your feedback requests.

    1. Hey Alexander! I have only read the book recommendation post but I already love it! This is probably biased because I love books and Ghostwritten just rings paradise to me XD
I love the tone of your writing and I also love how you choose your photos with a theme in mind? That’s how I see it, I don’t know if it was intentional. Anyways, I’m reading your meditation post now and I look forward to your other posts. 😊

      1. That’s so kind of you, thanks Kate! At the moment I use stock photos, but I intend to get a camera and learn to use it so I can use my own… I’m glad you think these work for now though! I will check out your blog too 🙂
Ps. Do read Ghostwritten if you haven’t already!

      2. No problem! I did see you used Pixabay. I do the same too, and I hope I’ll be able to have my own photos for my blog someday. 😀
Oh I will! And I’m already swamped with books I need to look for in bookstores 😄

      1. Hey Carol
I’ve had a quick look and hit follow, because I’m a big flash fiction/short story fan. Have you ever checked out the Bristol Short Story Prize? I’d recommend their anthologies, I think there are ten volumes or so of a really high standard.
        All the best

      2. I have heard of it but not looked into it too much. I’m taking a few months off from trying to submit to finish the manuscript for my novel but then I’ll be getting back into the swing of lining myself up for rejection letters/email.
Thanks for the recommendation though. I’ll check out the anthologies. 🙂

      1. Hi, thanks for commenting!

I’ll take all of that onboard, especially re: post length. Shorter ones would also take less time to write! Thanks so much for your time and feedback.

Re: your blog. The recent fiction piece is great, and strong striking image. Just the right type of creepy. I find the rest of the blog is quite eclectic and a little confusing to navigate, but I do like the variety of content. Keep up the good work!

      2. No worries. Thanks for your feedback re: post length. Because of your comment I’ve written my first (slightly) shorter one today and had a lot of fun doing it!

Someone has just suggested the ‘read more’ thing to me as well, but I don’t actually know what that is?

      3. That’s great! I think it’s a feature that does so that when scrolling through the home page on the blog, you don’t have to scroll through an entire post to get to the next. There will be the first few line of the post showing and then if yiu want to read more you can press that option. At least I think that’s how it works:) I found out that you can add it when you’re writing the post. It’s an option just like ‘add image’ is one as well.
Sorry for the long comment:P I hope this helps!

    2. That’s a lovely tribute to your loved ones. I noticed a couple of grammar issues. For instance, “Today evening” should be “This evening.” You have some redundant words. You could remove “There is this bunch of people and” to begin the sentence with “My life.” Your overall site looks good. https://gracelead.co
