First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to their first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your post, copy and paste the link right into a comment here.

Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment!

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • The third time is not the charm: don’t share your stuff repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. These will be removed as well.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments or repeatedly replying to comments with your link; this is considered spammy. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Very good writing style. Heartfelt. I commented on your most recent. I wanted to know more about you, but your About page was blank. Also, I’m not sure if you want more traffic but I’ve found doing the Daily prompts get some traffic from others doing the same.

      1. What would you like to know? I honestly just created this a few weeks ago so I didn’t think the about me would have an impact. Traffic is good, exactly what I am looking for as I feel some of my words can help others.

      2. Nothing wrong w that, completely understandable. I find though these “about me” sections aren’t justifiable though. How can you honestly know someone unless you converse! I am from PA, almost 33, gay, single, independent but that is minimal. Prefer to just live through laughs and allow actions to truly define me even if some aren’t always positive and good. We are humans, it is what we do and then you have individuals like us who like to write and it out to move on 😎

      3. Your name is just fine since it can be a label too in a virtual sense. No need to even explain because its just who you are and thats a good thing. I write whatever I please too, my alias is not my name just glimpses and a favorite number. I understand completely though so yea, I really do think, a little too ironic. Maybe it wont rain on my future wedding day though 😆

Looks like you haven’t given your site a title yet! If you’d like to add one (we recommend it), you can do that my going to My Site > Customize > Site Identity.

    2. Hey, I loved your first post! I know plenty of “oldies” who still don’t know what they want to be when they grow up haha. Chin up and keep up the great work!

    1. Love the title of your blog. Just simply because it used to be my nick name many years ago. Susie sunshine… although my name is not Susie… someone just felt like calling me Susie Sunshine back then and it stuck to me 😉 Looking forward checking your blog out…

    1. Hey, I like your post. I feel like we’re sort of in the same boat so it was nice to know I’m not the only one on the search for that meaning! I wish you the best of luck!!! 🙂

  1. Hello, I am Jyotsna, from India. I am not exactly new here. I made my blog last November but I hardly published anything at all. But this is my new beginning. I deleted all my previous posts and I saw the ‘Daily Prompt’ in my Reader today. And here I am starting my journey towards creative bliss with this post. I am hoping that this time I stick with my blog and all the keeping it requires. Here’s the link https://thebesotted7muses.wordpress.com/

P.s Cheers to First Fridays and a lot of new bloggers hustling towards their calling! And also if anyone can drop a few suggestions about how to keep going strong with my blog.

    1. One thing — I noticed you’re using a lot of tags on your post. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

      1. Hi, I’m not sure if my last message saved in the end. Either way thank you so much for your input. I didn’t realize it was better to have fewer tags so really appreciate the advice 🙂 x

  3. Hi guys, I waited before posting here on first Friday until I was sure I would be consistently able to blog!! Why waste your time, right? Wrong! I was also extremely nervous to have hoards of readers tell me how abysmal my writings are… so I kinda chickened out!

In reality, my fears were defeating the purpose of my blog. BlackWomenBiz.com is supposed to be geared towards Black Businesswomen (Obviously) who lack a support system, seeking lifestyle and business advice, and help finding balance between the two. I have been freelancing for a little over a year now and I had very little support from friends and family- mostly because they don’t understand what it is I do (or what the hell I am talking about when I mention blogging) and this has often caused me to doubt myself, doubt my potential growth, and even quit a few times.

This network is GOING to become an active network of thriving businesswomen and hopeful entrepreneurs. For now, it is simply a portal for me to continue to provide some insight and inspiration for other Black Women in Business and hope someone is receiving the message!

Be Sure to follow along and Be brave enough to join the conversation… or start one, because you deserve a network that gets you!

…Ps. Sorry for the long ranting comment. I tend to do that.

      1. Hi Octavia. I can appreciate having fears. I like that you are honest about it. I can relate to that human element. I like your premise of a resource for support and advice in an area you appear very passionate about.

      2. Thank you. While I am not a new blogger, I am very new at incorporating the lifestyle aspect- which frightens me terribly. But I have just yet begun to flood it when content- slowly scheduled content- so that I can work up the courage to talk about things like black women working against sexual profiling in the office, building upon a non-existent reputation as a woman stepping out on her own as a Boss of something more than just her household, and being everything and a little more than what she believed she couldn’t be.

It is going to be a journey of self-realization and awareness, I am sure of that.

  4. I finally got round to starting a proper blog! I have a tumblr but it’s not quite the same, plus I wanted everyone to read what I write and my tumblr is personal to me so I don’t actively share it.
    Anywho!
My blog is designed to share some positivity with the world! I’m sick of reading depressing news stories and reading bitchy and mean comments and hearing ignorant one – sided opinions. My blog will be exactly the opposite of that! I want it to give my readers an opportunity to smile in a world of constant frowny faces.

Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Looks like you still have some placeholder text in your sidebar, and a placeholder post. You can edit/remove/update the items in the sidebar by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets, and the post by going to My Site > Posts.
