Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hi all! My blog finds a link between the music I love and my own photography, pairing each together to create the soundtrack to a still photograph. My latest one covers some musical ground by way of the Native American singer Joanne Shenandoah. You can find it and all my posts right here. Comments always appreciated!

    1. Hey there,
I like your way of blogging and the pictures you take (or feature?) are wonderfully chosen.
I really enjoy the combination of music and photography (when I go to take some pictures there is always a certain playlist, a certain artist or something different… )
I’ll definitely come back to your blog to have another look at it.
      Cheers, Mary

      1. Thanks Mary, I really appreciate you taking a look and thank you for your words! Way back when I started this it came from this idea that when I look at some of my photos, a song will pop up in my head, something that fits the mood or action of the photo. Sometimes its the weather. But it just seemed like an idea worthy of exploring. Appreciate the comment!

    2. I really like the concept of your blog. It’s great to come across such an original idea.
The post you’ve linked to above was lovely and I also looked through some of your others. I couldn’t get the Irish Noise video to play though.
You cover a real variety of music and I’m interested to see what kind you’ll introduce your readers to next!

      1. And again, thank you for yet another great comment! I’m sorry that video wouldn’t play for you in Irish Noise but I’m sure you can find it on YouTube or elsewhere. Its probably due to a licensing restriction. I do like a diversity of music and I like to mix it up on here. I often say though I quite like a lot of pop music and totally get why any particular song is massively popular, there is so much that is just as good out there. People often don’t know where to look for it, so I’m doing my small part. I’m off to go check your blog out as well. And thank you again!

    1. Absolutely loved your post and you are so very right! Just look at our younger generation. Half the time I hear of teenagers dating and yet they have never met in their lives. I reckon majority of marriages in the future will end in divorce unfortunately. The only form of communicating these days are on social media, no longer face to face.

    1. I just read your recent one and it was skillfully written. One thing, I didn’t really get the use of rhyme but putting that away it was really good. Keep working! Have a great day

  3. Hi everyone,
I’m so happy to finally publish my post about my visit to YALC, which is the Young Adult Literature Convention in London. If you love reading YA (young-adult), writing, book conventions, or just want to read about my trip, please check my post out. I would greatly appreciate feedback on my writing style and my inclusion of more images in my post.

    1. I don’t know what you did have, but I think this theme works with your content. Not just the writing, but all the images you use in your posts really come out without seeming too ‘busy’. I’ll be exploring more from you when I can

      1. Its funny the longer you are on WordPress and exploring other blogs how familiar you get with the other themes. I forget which one I had initially but once I switched to Hemingway Revisited I felt like it was the best match. But change is good so who knows that I don’t change mine again!

    2. Hey there, I really like your blog’s style and layout, though I am not quite sure about the font. Especially the titles are in a quite artsy font and I know that it is not my kind of thing but for your blog it seems fitting 😉
I really like the overall look, even though I normally love ‘cleaner’ themes 😉

  4. Hey everyone,
I am a more or less seasoned Photoblogger from Germany and/or Latvia – depends on how you put it 😉 As I am experimenting a little recently I would invite you over to my blog. Either way have a look at my pictures regarding composition and style OR have a look at one of my recent texts, (arrivals and departures or questions).
I am open to comment on photography or texts as well.

    1. I enjoyed your page tremendously! My one critique is that I would rearrange your page name- perhaps all on line overlapping at the bottom of the picture? Not sure, it just distracts from the beauty of the photo. Otherwise, I like the setup and content. Well done and interesting!

    1. Just commented! Nice post. Good content, good use of quotes/images. My suggestion: consider using more tags/categories. You can use up to 15, and a few more may help additional readers find your blog. For example, you can use “passion” and “purpose” as well to attract new people.

    2. I too deal with “multipotentialites” lol! It is a true frustration- specially to those who live with me. I get very impassioned by each new endeavor and it seems to be all I can focus on…until the next great “thing”! Great read! 😉

    4. I like the format of your blog and the way you write! One thing I noticed: you have a link to an “about” page – but it’s just the description from wordpress of what an “about” page should be. You should either add in your own info or get rid of the extra page on your blog.

I’d appreciate any feedback you have for me as well, if you have some time to check out my blog!

    1. Just commented. Nice content, good post length, good use of tags. My suggestion: you have a good number of images, but consider using the landscape one in the post as well as in the header. It will break the post up a bit more. Of course, if you choose not to, it’s not a huge deal 🙂 Your choice!

My blog, Steve Says… will be 3 years old in a few weeks – how time flies. I’ll be on vacation on the actual day so I have 2 things planned and would love for you to join in.

I want to reblog your posts to keep activity on my blog

When I return I want to do an ‘ask me anything’ post/vlog so I need your questions for me to answer – literally ask me anything.

You can share your posts and leave me a question on this page…

      1. Yeah, that’s what I am concerned about. I agree with what you say, but it is possible that although driven by good reasons you risk to do a greater harm. You know how they say “The road to hell is paved with good intentions”.
        Thanks for reading me 🙂

        Liked by 2 people

      2. I have never really understood that saying…. When some one does something with good intentions…they think they are doing it for the good and are perhaps blinded by that thought ! Perhaps they are incapable of looking at their action from a larger perspective…. So how can this lead to them going to hell.. metaphorically of course !!! Do you get what I mean here ! Wow this seems like a vicious circle hahah! Do check out my blog… My contents should be light informational reading in comparison 🙂

  8. I am having a very hard time finding my “brand”. I have tried and failed at starting blogs, I think, 3-4 times now. I am interested in so many things in life and don’t necessarily have a “niche”. Does anyone have any advice on how to narrow down interests and pick something to write about. I just don’t want to make a “brand” and be scatter-brained anymore. Help!

    1. I know what you mean… Because I am in the same dilemma… I recently made my blog public… And right now majority of my work is beauty related but I have other ideas too…which may not conform to beauty… And I really don’t have the bandwidth to maintain more than one blog ! So I am wondering if mixing subjects is acceptable?

      Like

      1. I’m a relatively new blogger, so I don’t necessarily have the follower count to back up my claims, but I think mixing subjects is totally acceptable! A blog should be an expression of who you are, in my opinion, and what you want to say. I’ve actually started trying to branch out on my blog with my newish segment: Current Events Corner. I used to/usually post about depression, and write poetry. But it’s all based on my personal experiences, which is what makes it my blog. Feel free to check it out, and I hope this helps! https://nikkispeaksfromtheheart.wordpress.com/

    2. I think it’s okay to mix topics! I write about meaningful living, ballroom dance, gender stereotypes, and writing. The important thing to remember is to mix your posts, i.e. don’t post 10 things on writing and none on the other topics. Do a writing post, then a gender one, then something else, etc. 🙂 If you’d like to see an example of that, check out my blog!

    3. That’s a question many bloggers ask themselves! We published several posts on similar topics in the past; here are two on “UVP” or Unique Value Proposition — where my colleagues Michelle and Cheri encourage people to think less in terms of “brand” or “niche,” and more in terms of what is unique about your voice and perspective. I hope you find these useful:
