Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. What a lovely post!!!

I really enjoyed reading this and appreciated all the pictures you provided to show how creative you can be in creating your own shorts.

You may want to consider doing some spell and grammar checking, and perhaps wrapping the text around the pictures (you can do that while editing the post).

      🙂

      1. Thank you for your comment, I will do my best 🙂 feel free to read and comment when there’s something wrong because I’m new in this 🙂 ( about wrapping the text around the pictures can you send me some example to see how it looks)? ( I hope my English is not so bad) 😦

      2. Hello!! If you look at some of my posts, the text wrap around the pictures. There is a button on the top menu when you are writing your draft in WordPress that allows you to do this. If you click on the picture, you have option to make it smaller. Then if you click beside the picture and click on the buttons on the top toolbar, you can put the text in the paragraph below either to the left or the right of the picture. Let me know if this helps 🙂

  1. Hey guys, I recently started writing a series of mine titled Music Rambles where I’ll be talking about the newest music, what I’ve been getting into, criticize it, and more. Here’s the link to my first one, would love feedback on it and maybe help on titling each new one!
    https://bluevibesblog.wordpress.com/2016/08/11/music-ramble-01/
And I wrote a somewhat lengthy, funny read on bringing awareness to age gap relationships from my city and why it’s a problem here:

    Thanks!

    1. This is such an interesting place to meet and share. A great idea it was to create this space for us. Thank you.
I have been on WordPress for less than a month and have met so many people already. It is an easy place to connect with like minded folks without having to go around and around to find people with similar likes.
I have tried many times to add my daily prompt by doing a pingback and it never goes through. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong but cannot seem to figure it out.
So…here is a link to my site if you care to come and see what I am all about.

    1. Hey there, I don’t know what your blog look like before the change, but it looks nice now. I like the three-column format. It’s helpful to see so many widgets without having to scroll for a long time. I also like that your blog looks at a specific genre of books. Keep on writing! 1. Hello,

I think your post is really well organized.

The use of screen shots, and providing the text to type into ‘Terminal’ is very helpful. Perhaps use even more screen shots when there are multiple steps to achieve a certain action.

The post is very well organized into clear steps, and quite easy to follow even for someone that doesn’t know anything about the subject matter.

Also, the use of bold and different colors really highlights important things.

You may want to consider putting your writing through a spell and grammar checker to help it flow a little better.

      🙂

      1. Thanks Dear. Your review is meant a lot to me. Definitely i will be giving more emphasis on spelling and grammar errors. Can you suggest me any tools or apps which i can use for proofreading. Thanks once again.

      2. I think you have many options. I believe you can spell check right in the draft when you are editing it in WordPress. You could also use Microsoft Word to do the writing – it has a full spell and grammar check – then cut and paste into WordPress. I hope this helps 🙂

  2. Hi everyone,
I’ve just posted my ‘winning camp Nanowrimo’ post and would love it if you checked it out. It’s not my longest or probably best post, but as an aspiring author, the topic is something I’m really passionate about. If you’re a fellow writer, or just feel like finding out a bit more about camp Nanowrimo, then give it a read. General feedback on writing style, blog layout etc would be greatly appreciated.

    2. Really lovely post!!

Your site is really clean and bright, and sends a clear message.

It was really easy to read because you made the paragraphs very digestible and you highlighted really important parts of the message.

What a wonderful message 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

  3. Good morning! I was wondering if the title of this is confusing because it’s a negative? And if you can get past any confusion, does the title imply that it’s going to be humorous? Trying to get the proper expectation set up for this piece. Lastly, do you feel like if you haven’t written a book then it wouldn’t apply to you and you’d skip it? Thanks for honest feedback!

    1. Personally, I really enjoyed this 🙂 The title is a bit long, but the parentheses punctuate it well. I definitely saw the humor coming (and you delivered it quite well!). As someone who is in the process of writing a book, I totally understand your feelings — not sure how a non-writer would feel about it.

One other suggestion: maybe put the image of your book at the bottom, where you link to it on Amazon? Not sure starting with the image is the most effective, but your call!

      1. Ahhhh, great feedback! Thank you. Yes I am definitely going to visit your blog (my best friend that I referred to is named Natalie, lol so I was gonna visit anyhow!) just as soon as I get my six kids (not a typo!) out of my hair on this wonderful non-school, non camp day…. Ugh! Thanks again, Natalie!

    1. Just commented 🙂 Nice post, good post length. My suggestion: add more images to your posts. Blogging is a visual medium! You don’t need to add 100 pictures; in a post that length, I think one or two is enough. You should add a full image of Starry Night!

I will also try to update Starry Night. Please also, if you like, check out my other posts! Thank you again. 🙂
And of course, I will check out your posts. Have a great day!

  4. Happy Monday, swimmers! 🙂 I just published a new post about stress management. It’s a bit shorter than my usual posts (just shy of 500 words), and I wanted to know: is it too short?

Of course, if you check out my blog, I’ll return the favor 🙂 Swim on!

    1. Hey! I liked reading your post. One thing that people need to do is be self-aware. By that I mean knowing what works and what don’t. It also helps to make a list of things that help you manage your stress. In college, we called that having a “toolbox” of techniques that we could pull from so when one thing doesn’t work, you have other ideas and you don’t get burned out by doing one thing. Great post! If you would, please check out my blog at http://merrymadnessblog.wordpress.com as I am fairly new at blogging! Thanks!

      1. Just commented 🙂 Nice content, good blog length. My suggestions: one, try breaking your text up into different paragraphs. A big block of text can be intimidating to readers. Two, consider adding images. In a post as long as the inferiority one, a single image is enough 🙂

        Rock on!

    1. Hey,

I enjoyed checking out your blog posts, especially the one on luxury consumerism – you certainly have a way with words that makes your writing very pleasant (and honest!) to read. I like the fact that your life blog is thought-provoking and almost seems to coerce me into contemplating the smaller things in life and the daily sensations (as well as some of the more philosophical!)

Not sure if my blog is something you would like – it’s not a real life blog unfortunatly… but would certainly enjoy some feedback on it e.g. how to make it more eloquent/appealing perhaps?

  5. Hey there,

Usually in my Thankful For… posts, I make a creative list of different things I have been thankful for recently. In the latest edition, I focus on one experience but find several things I am thankful for in that. It shows off this really cool new box design from Zappos that encourages customers to have fun with boxes. What do you think of this different style of a Thankful For… post. Let me know, and I’ll be sure to scope out your blog!

  6. Hi to everyone, I’m really enjoying The Daily Post’s writing prompts. They are pulling stories out of me from secret places. I would appreciate reactions to my response for the “reach” prompt, especially what you thought the relationship was between the male and female characters before the end reveals it. Thanks!

    1. Enjoyable read! I really like your title image and also the way you ended the story. His entrance appeared like he was a stranger, giving advice upon relation to what she was going through, but toward the end was was so apparent that he was there in her mind to remind her to keep reaching. The prompts seem really helpful 🙂 ! Great!

      1. Thank you for your reaction Kristy! I’m happy you took notice of the title image too. I don’t know why I was so excited to use it, maybe because the story measures progress literally and emotionally, idk. Thanks again 🙂

    1. Nice poem! I really like the image you paired with it 🙂 My suggestion – maybe add more tags? Looks like the only one is “poetry.” You can use up to 15 before WordPress blocks your post from reader — maybe also add “free verse” or other descriptive words to help new readers find your work? 🙂

    1. Just commented. Good use of tags and images. I can’t decide if the rhyme scheme makes your poem sound too happy or works well… I’m not much of a poet, so I’m probably not a good person to ask! A very sad poem, though 😦

Also — the first word after a semicolon is never capitalized. Example: My name is Natalie; my friend’s name is Juan. Just FYI! 🙂
