Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hello Everyone,

I just love this idea of getting everyone’s feedback to bring some improvements in our blogs. Can you people come and visit my blog and give me some feedback on my posts as well as overall outlook of the blog? In addition, also tell me some good ways to monetize my blog?

    Waiting for you feedback,

    1. I enjoyed Luxury of Being Alive, especially the art work. It is striking. Although the patterns in the background of your posts is interesting, it does make it a little difficult to see the text. If there’s a way to make the background a shade lighter or the text darker, that would be nice. https://gracelead.co

  2. Hey, I’d really love some feedback on a poem i wrote.

Let me begin with the letter ‘Y’

I’m not sure what I think of it myself, so I’d greatly appreciate a few suggestions. 🙂 (wouldn’t mind some feedback on some other work either but I think this is the one that need it most right now :p)
will definitely check out yours if you’d like too! Thank you!

  3. Hi everyone!

Please check out my latest post: Why I am NOT excited about Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. It is NOT a review, just a commentary from a Potterhead who wasn’t particularly anticipating this book. You’ll find it at : https://thecommonplacechronicles.wordpress.com/2016/08/07/why-i-am-not-excited-about-harry-potter-and-the-cursed-child/
Feel free to comment on the post and give me some feedback! Let me know if you agree with all the point I’ve made. Thanks a million! 🙂

    1. Hello fellow potter head!
I like your writing style, and love the concept of ‘aside’ thoughts with that programmer joke, but I feel those get long and take the attention away from your main article. Would love it more if you wrote in a more concise manner.
Just my opinion, not the absolute truth so go ahead and write the way you love!
I would also love some honest feedback on

      1. Hey! Thanks a lot for the kind words 🙂
Nice to meet another Potterhead! I actually was pretty worried about it being too dragged out, so I totally get what you’re saying. Glad you liked some of my ideas-it’s so encouraging to hear stuff like that! I’m heading over to your blog right now! ^_^

      1. If you are talking about the graphics on my site, I think it can depend on that today I change the hosting, of the site. So I have been working some hours to set up the new server and so on. So maybe not all of the images is still loading right and so on

    1. I like the message in your Show Them post. It would be even better with some proofreading. For instance, the first sentence in your second paragraph is a long run-on sentence. Here’s a suggested way of rewording it > “There have been thousands of times I have felt lonely and weak. Even so, nothing could ever break me. No matter how tough the situation got, I told myself that everything was fine. To date, it has worked.” https://gracelead.co

    1. I liked your post a lot and could really relate. I would use the spell checker as there are a lot of typos which distracted me from the reading which was a bummer because your writing was good. But I like the overall look. As you move forward, add an about page as well, but excellent first start!

    1. A nice story and true that the sentiment from the giver is worth more than the gift…unless the giver is a jerk, then the gift is worth more. I like the layout of your blog. Inviting!

  7. Remember the commercial where Creepy Rob Lowe brought binoculars to the community pool? I always loved that one…

Anyhoo…I’ve a question and I’m not sure where to ask it so I’ll throw it here and, hopefully, you’ll not ostracize me or banish me or whatever it is that seasoned bloggers do to n00bs.

When writing a short story (fiction) do you outline it first so you have it in some sort of concise format or do you freewheel from the start and just see where it takes you?

    1. Just watchin’ folks swim. Ha! I’m a freewheeler but I know there are some that use the outline approach. For the short stories I write, I type as I’m thinking. They’re no literary works of art but I’m able to write them in 10 minutes or less. It’s therapeutic for me. Have a look at http://www.letmebefrankwithyou.com

    2. Before I replied to your question, I decided to visit your site. Another Man’s Treasure is well-written. Whatever method you are using seems to be working for you. Now for the reply to your question… Given that I mostly write non-fiction, you’d think I would be an outliner. I find formal outlines constraining; however I think we all need to find a way to organize our thoughts. I am neither an outliner nor a freewheeler. I jot down key points in an order that makes sense to me and begin to write. May we all find a method that brings out our best. https://gracelead.co
