Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

      1. Thank you very much, happy that you enjoyed it 🙂
Also, I went through a couple of your posts. Glad, I stumbled upon your blog. Absolutely loved it, the way you think and put your thoughts into words.

  1. Hello. I’ve recently noticed that the font size used on my blog posts became smaller. I’m not sure if it’s on my mac air because when I check on my husband’s pro, it looks bigger, but I was sure it was bigger compared to how I see it now. I’m refereing to posts not the menu font sizes. Maybe when I was typing the post? Because in my recent one, there’s a part that is bigger and the first part smaller. How can I change the font size in the post? Here’s my site: Words, Women, and Wonders http://islesgilian.com

    1. Have you perhaps copied and pasted text into your draft from elsewhere? I found that sometimes text size changes when I do that. Or maybe your formatting was changed while you were drafting?

      1. No. I didn’t. I just remember I added a short code for sharing buttons then the next line is the one where I typed. Those lines were the ones that became smaller. The succeeding ones were the original size. I don’t see/know how to change the size.

    2. Since the blog is self-hosted I can’t check into your post’s editor to see what might be going on, but as previous commenters suggested, you might want to check your HTML/text editor to see whether the sharing buttons’ code somehow got extended to the first paragraph of text.

Would love to hear your feedback on the post. I’m starting to fill out my blog with more of my travel adventures and trying to find a good balance of personal experiences with not-to-miss-sights in a city. And of course tons of pictures! Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. hey, the format looks good, though on your home page you have text that reads ‘text widget’! i assume these need to me amended? I liked the main photo – also it might be good if some blog post showed on the home page rather than having to click on ‘blog’? Good luck with your writing.

Be great if you could stop by and visit my blog and let me know what you think https://escapingperfectionblog.wordpress.com/

  3. First time posting here, I just wanted to try and get some feedback on an older poem, it is a bit long but I want to get a real critique of my writing, and I saw this and thought I would dip in the pool. Look forward to reading others’ work in this community too.

  4. Hello there, I started posting poems yesterday and I think I might need some advice on how I can improve my writing skills.. I really love poems that’s why it is the first thing I wrote in my blog. I also want to make it a hobby, I would be glad if you come and stop by my blog to give comments.. Thanks 🙂

    1. My opinion of writing is this: write what you want, if someone disagrees, they’re wrong. As far as what you could work on is stanza structure, often you seem to lapse into a repetitive state, which makes sense in “Because you were” but less sense in “Hanging by a Moment”. But aside from that your rhyme schemes are great and I’m looking forward to reading more!

  5. Hey!
I used to share a blog with a friend but as it was just me posting I decided to open my own one!
I’m new on this and I would love to keep doing it! For now I don’t have many posts, some of them were the ones I posted on my other blog.
If you could check out my site and give me some feedback and recommendations it would be so appreciated!!

    Thank you,
    Carla

    1. I like that you write short stories and I’m probably gonna get back into doing it myself. I made a deal with my friend that I’d write her one once a month, just so that I’d start writing again:) Maybe I’ll even share them on my blog, who knows?
Now I’m gonna go read your stories, and if you want you can go check out some of the poems I’ve written:)
      Cheers!

      1. I started mine so that I wouldn’t be giving up on writing completely and in the hope that I’d eventually feel inspired to write the stories I want to write again.
When I write one I’ll definitely do so!:)

    2. I think your blog looks great. It is well laid out. Your writing is good, though I will be looking at my neighbors a little more suspect after reading this! <> I do follow several different styles of writers and I think your blog fits in very well with a lot I have seen. Good luck!

  6. Hello my friends. I’ve just published a piece on our ideas of perfection and used the movie The Age of Adaline as a template to draw comparisons. Would love some thoughts about it. Do you agree with my ideas on perfection? Did you like the movie or hate it? I’m always happy to return the favour on your latest posts. Happy writing 🙂

    1. Hello, photoblogger from Germany
Cool pictures and, because I want more of them, I would say you could have less text on the main page and just make it all about the photos, maybe just headlines. Just a suggestion.
If you could stop by my blog as well, I’d be ever so thankful. 🙂

    1. I took a quick look at Lost On Road. I think you have done an excellent job with the initial design. I would recommend capitalizing “Lost” or using lowercase in “Road” on your title. Also, you may want to place the “continue reading” at similar locations in your posts so your posts appear to be similar in size on your home page. I really liked the design of your posts, though! I like that you have the pictures at the beginning of the beginning of the post and your travel log following – I thought your posts looked really clean! Cool stuff!! Write on!

      1. Thanks a lot for your feedback.
I would certainly consider your suggestions. Also I too wanted to place the continue reading at similar locations but I did not know how to place them above the photographs that I include in the blog.
