Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Hey Yanna, I think your blog looks great! If I were to make one change it would be to leave the ‘uncategorized’ section blank. I think if you are to post something, it should always go under a category, otherwise nobody has any incentive to click on it! Other than that, the blog looks awesome, keep it up.

  1. Hello! I just changed my blog design and I would like for someone to tell me if my new background is okay or not…it’s a bit weird…but I want to know if you can still read some of the words nicely since the background kinda gets in the way of some words, thanks!

    1. I like your blog and recipes are yummy! I’m gonna follow you… Just a thing about the video you have made though: The transition between two images is not smooth, maybe because of the animation or effects applied to it, for eg, some texts or images come spiraling down from a corner or tilt. it would look great if you just keep them rolling from either side of screen , or fade away. Also it would be good if you increase the time duration of the slides in which you show the ingredients, right now they disappear quickly before someone can take note of it. I know people can always go back to the recipe you have posted and note down from there, but the video will be much cooler if you do that.
You have a great site and a collection of yummy recipes, some of which m surely gonna try this weekend 🙂

      1. Thanks Amruta. The images started tilting after I edited and applied auto zoom ans stabilize features. In my next video I will be careful about that. I agree that everthing goes very fast in this video. It was done intentionally as they are meant to be short 1 or 2 minutes videos. Once I have learnt the art of making, ans especially editing my films a bit more, I will upload longer videos. Thanks for the feedback.

I discover a variety of world issues and give my take on them, as well as explore the future of our species in terms of technological, social, political, and environmental aspects. You can check it out here: https://improvesocietytoday.wordpress.com/
I would really appreciate any suggestions as to how I can improve my site layout, particularly my home page. Any comments help. Thanks guys!

    1. Wow, I love your blog. I have recently been trying to learn more about politics and economics, and become more conscious of the world. I think your blog is a great resource for people like me. The formatting is also clean and engaging. Really looking forward to reading your opinions!

  3. Hi guys. I started a blog in January, made a muck up of the name, and now have six published works I really don’t know how to tailor to read well.
It’s an everything blog, more an online portfolio than focused on any particular of topic.
I work for a media company and I’ve been trying to break into writing and journalism, and was told today by one of the company recruiters to post my blog out. I don’t know what I’m doing with it, and feel that my posts have an onslaught of pics and gifs that’s probably better suited to Buzzfeed.
Before sharing it among people I know, can I please grab ideas as to how to sort out the aesthetics and possible topics so it’s a blog I’m proud to share?
    Would appreciate all the help!

      1. Thank you! I was soo scared to post that up and I’m so happy you replied! Gave me a boost.
And I have to say, I did look at your blog too and couldn’t help but resonate with the post about rain. It’s raining for a few weeks in New Zealand at the moment, and while I’m someone who LOVES the rain, the cold makes me hate it. I miss the monsoon rains in India where I’m from originally. Love the photography as well!

      1. Thanks heaps for that feedback! I definitely needed it!
I also read your posts and I can so easily relate! You have a very easygoing way of writing that makes reading feel more like a very involved conversation, which I admire!

    2. The content is interesting. On the format, a couple of things to consider are: (1) Add an About page to tell your readers the purpose of your blog site and (2) Use the Read More tag from the post editing menu so that only a portion of each post shows on your Home page. This will reduce scrolling and more quickly show readers your recent posts. https://gracelead.co

    1. Hey, I really liked your writing! I thought the theme was great too – the fonts work really well. The only thing I would say is that the actual font that you have used for the post content is too small. It’s down as 8.4px but looks even smaller than that to me! Maybe try at least 10 if not 12.

Actually I thought your posts worked well together. It felt like there was a theme there. If I were you, though, I’d make sure that posts from all categories displayed on your home page so people visiting repeatedly will see your new content without having to search through all the categories.

    1. In the post editing window, place your cursor where you want the pic. Select Insert Media from the menu. This takes you to a list of your media items. Click on the one you want then on the lower right side of the page click on Insert. Then, back on your post editing window, click on Update (right side of your page). After that, click on Preview to see how it looks. https://gracelead.co

  5. For quite some time now I’ve had my game development blog. As this was specific to game development, I’ve been missing some place to put my random scribbles. Today, I finally pulled myself together to actually crate the blog and my first post.

I’m looking for feedback to the layout of the blog (of course it’s just some theme), and also my “About” page. Please feel free: http://www.isimpleman.wordpress.com.

    Thanks in advance! 🙂

    1. Hey Christian, in keeping with the blog name and your “About” page I think the layout works really well (and the quote in the header on the homepage made me laugh).

I think the About page serves its purpose well in telling the reader who you are and what the blog is about.

If I was being *really* fussy, I’d say that the part about how you got the job you’re in might make a better blog post than putting it in your About page. I say that because when I read the page (before I got to the bottom) I wondered if it might be a site looking for business…

    1. Hey, I think the blog looks great. Love the simple theme and from the looks of your first post you’re going to have to some fun things to write about. I’m intrigued about the ice rink!

  8. Hi Everyone! Thank you so much for the feedback about my paintings, and for the help about sizing pictures, Kimberly! Today I have two things for you all. The first, would anyone care to comment on my post Simple Joys of a Wild and Messy Life?

Second, I find it so interesting to think about different cultures and how we all affect each other– value systems, food traditions, religion, society expectations, the sharing of stories, role models and and so much more! I’ve been so happy to see that so far this blog seems to attract a wonderful diversity of readers across the world, and I want to help encourage this by engaging input from other places.

See my latest post for more, and to submit your international recipe to my recipe round-up!
