Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  2. Hello everybody 🙂 I just wrote a post on my family vacation. I feel like it was quite stiff, though.. How do you handle lifestyle posts? I wanted to put up a post bc my family reads my blog; however, I feel like the majority of my readers don’t really care how I spent my vacation. Do you have any tips for how to feel less awkward about talking about my life?

    Vacation.

      1. Okay, there’s only one that is visible the rest are not.
So that happened to me with on post, I simply edited the document, took off the one that is not visible and since I still had the picture in my phone’s documents I uploaded it from there and replaced it.

I’m Anjali. I’ve a inspiration blog called Eloraquence. So far, I’ve written 5 Introspective Thoughts, 3 Poems and 2 Short Stories. In the beginning, I used to write once in a 3 days. This month, as an experiment, I’m going to write a post everyday. Valuable suggestions, views and feedback are much appreciated. Thanks! My best work till now has been a short story – The Other Side Of The Coin. This story is a part of me. Link is as follows – https://eloraquence.wordpress.com/2016/06/03/the-other-side-of-the-coin/
Do let me know what you think of it. Happy blogging!

    1. Hi Anjali, we read your blog and we liked the short story. Your theme is very simple and that helps focus more on the post itself. You may think of getting a proof reading done so as to avoid a few obvious errors.
      Happy Blogging…

  6. Hello! I’m typing up my teenage diaries from the 90s in all their cringe-worthy glory and I’m wondering whether or not to answer a page to translate some of the slang. It’s something I’ve considered before then I had a comment yesterday asking what I meant by ‘on my bill’.

I’m aware my diary is peppered with things like ‘dock-off’ or ‘skitting’ which can mean nothing to someone from the next county, never mind another country! However, I wonder if most people can work out what I mean when it’s in context.

Do you think it’d be helpful to add a translation page or is it unnecessary blog clutter?

    Thoughts welcome!

    1. First of all, wonderful blog concept. I know several writers who use “translation” pages (myself included). It’s not a bad idea. In my experience, it’s better to have something there than to have people confused.

    1. Hey, I’m encouraged to meet another young blogger. I’m 21, blogging for over 5 months, and am really enjoying it so far! I like the layout of your blog. It is easy to navigate and your posts touch on some good topics, while being informative enough for all people to read and understand them, I really liked your post about social media. 1. I might change your title to “Original Kingston Made” because currently, your title feels a tad immpersonal.

      1. Hi thank you for your feedback, do you mean because at the moment my blog is called ‘ Original Kingston Made Blog’ ? Because I know it’s a real shame, but when I was creating my blog it said I could have just Original Kingston Made, which is what I wanted and then it said the closest I could get was ‘Original Kingston Made Blog’ if you have any ideas on how to change this I’d love to here from you. Thank you:)

    1. Hey there, congrats on publishing an eBook! That’s so exciting. I am hoping to do that myself one day. I have been encouraged by seeing some fellow bloggers who are also fairly young. I’m 21, and have been blogging for over 5 months now. I recommend thinking about adding more images to help liven up your blog. Other than that, it seems well put-together with a variety of posts and a cohesive color scheme. Happy blogging! 1. Welcome to the community pool! I agree with other commenters, your photos are great! And I like the variety of things you post. Perhaps you should consider writing more about the purpose of the blog in your About page. Way to blog consistently, and I like the soft and comforting yellow of your design! I like that you do newsletters, along with a host of other things. I also enjoy your layout, it definitely has that newspaper feel, though it is still personal. And it’s also great to see another young blogger out there! Best of luck writing! Check out my blog about authentic living and thankfulness at: https://wondersinthewind.wordpress.com/
