Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. I’m sold on your content. It appears you feel every post, and that’s why it smacks of enthusiasm. I saw where I’d visited your blog before. I was happy to be back checking you out. Keeping feeling your way, it’s definitely working!

    1. Super duper blog posts. I hope you expected me to say this, because they are. I’m a bit older than you are, but I am chuffed to have visited you today. Yours is a “happy” blog, and I love how skillfully you invite your readers to respond to your posts. How could we not???

      1. Cool idea! When I was in middle and high school I used to be a part of an online journal community, so I’ve always loved the types of personal blogs where people just shoot the breeze about life. I’ve noticed it is increasingly hard to find them as an adult!

      2. I have always had a lot of opinions and never had much of an outlet. So I wanted a way to talk about what I think in a place where I could see if people think similarly or if I’m way out in left field.I think it is also good that people have no preconceived notions about me. I am looking forward to this new endeavor!

  1. Hi all–
I started my blog back in December with the purpose of walking people through my change of career. Well…kind of abandoned the blog around February and would like to start writing again. I have just left teaching and would like to continue writing about issues that affect the education world, as well as opportunities for career change for anyone interested. I’d appreciate feedback in the form of topics to write about as well as writing styles. I’ve tried a few out and am still trying to find my voice.

    Thanks for all the help!https://wordpress.com/stats/week/leavingteachingsite.wordpress.com

  3. Hello all! I would love any feedback anyone is willing to provide. I’m new to blogging, and unsure of all the “rules”…not that I would follow them anyway 😉 I will do the same for you. https://enjoythelittlemoments.org/

Another question…is there an area to search for specific blog topics? I’d like to look at similar blogs, but can’t seem to find where to search for them. Any help is appreciated.

    1. It was a good blog! About the rules, there are none; after all it is your blog right!

As for finding other blogs: community pool is one of the best ways. Use tags appropriately, them search wordpress using them. Finding tags is not easy but you will figure them out eventually.

    2. Click on “Reader” at the top-left corner of the screen — this will take you to the WordPress.com Reader, where you can read the latest from the blogs you follow, but also look for posts on specific topics — just click on “Tags” in the left sidebar there, and enter the topic you’d like to search.

I’ll be sure to check yours too of course, it’d be a real pleasure for me 🙂

  5. Hi there – this might be a bit of an unusual question, but here you go: When I started my blog a few years ago there was lovely community of a few hundred followers who left comments, “liked” posts, interacted etc. Now there are 6.6k followers who leave fewer comments and interact less with the site.

The reason could of course be that readers don’t like the posts as much as before, but the increasing number of followers somehow contradicts this.

Can you think of anything I can do to engage with readers? I tend to finish posts with a question, encourage them to comment, share etc.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks so much for your help.

    Andrea

    1. If having just about 400 followers qualifies me to answer.. I don’t get much comments or likes either. I don’t know why, mostly I write sporadically.

What I have realized is that the number of followers doesn’t necessary means people read your blog. Neither does having likes. The thing is you need to find those who do read and comment and keep the conversation flowing.

I am still struggling with this, so even after two years of infrequent blogging I am still on community pool trying to get traction on my blog.

      Good luck!

    1. Hey and welcome to blogging. I liked your post however it is difficult to read. There are no paragraphs and I need a break as I read.

Blogging is no different than your university assignments, only with no grades. You write for yourself but also you want someone to be able to read it and understand.

It takes time to do all that though. Keep writing, you will get the hang of it. I am learning myself too

      Good luck!
