First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to some other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

I’m trying to start a second blog that’s specifically a health blog but have not advertised it because I hoped to keep it slightly anonymous. Don’t know if that can happen with both blogs linked together. I wonder if this will help.

  3. Hi all. I am new in wordpress. hope I can have more people visit and comment my blog. I don’t have anything specific to write with. Generally, it will be the things or event happened in my life, and perhaps thoughts on the books I am ready. Everyone is welcome to visit and comment. Thank you. The following is my most recent post.

  5. Hi guys! I just subscribed to the Blogging: Fundamentals course over at Blogging U, and here’s my first post!

    The Who and the Why

I still haven’t adjusted the theme of the blog, and my title and tagline is just temporary because I think I can come up with something that’s more unique and wittier. But if you have comments, suggestions, you’re welcome to comment on the post!

  6. Hi everyone.
Here’s the link to my blog (The Life Of Sue):
    https://thelifeofsue.wordpress.com/
I started my blog 2 days ago and love it.
I’ve had 217 views (or is it hits?) and I can’t imagine where they all came from.
Q1. How do those 217 people know my blog is there?
Q2. I’d appreciate any positive/negative feedback about my stories, my layout and better options I could take.
Q3 How on earth do you put a display pic up? I seem to get redirected to log into a different website (not wordpress). So confusing.
Q4 Are the stats accurate? One of my stories had 3 family members look at it from separate houses and we discussed it (so they did read it) – but the stats say only 1 person has viewed it.

    1. Howdy! In answer to some of your questions:
      – When you start blogging, people can find you through the WordPress.com Reader — learn more about how it works and how to use it here: https://learn.wordpress.com/get-comfy/
      – The display pic is called a Gravatar; you can either add one at gravatar.com, or right from your WordPress.com profile: https://wordpress.com/me/public-profile/
      – You can read entire posts on your blog right from the home page — if someone does that, rather than clicking on the individual post, they’ll have read it, but not actually viewed the post, because post views are based on people viewing the individual post page. Learn more about stats here: https://wordpress.com/support/stats/#views-and-visitors

      Welcome 🙂
