First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to some other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Wow, you are doing great for just a month!! How are you attracting that kind of traffic. Nice job. I read your most recent piece. I am a Christian and could not agree more. Great perspective. I’m feeling like you would enjoy my lasted post, which I posted last night about my birthday today (big milestone for me). Let me know what you think! Enjoy, in Christ. MichaelJ

    2. Hello! This thread is geared towards posting your first-ever post. Since you’ve been blogging for a few weeks now, thanks for not sharing your links here in the future (you’re invited to do that in our Community Pool threads, which start every Monday). You’re of course welcome to offer feedback on others’ first posts, though!

    1. Hello — I noticed the link you shared doesn’t take us to your post. The best way to get the right URL is to copy-and-paste your post’s URL from your browser when you view your post as any other visitor would (as opposed to your dashboard or editor, which others can’t access). For example, here’s the link to your first post:

  1. Hi all,

I’ve recently started blogging. I set up a blog for my work and then decided to set one up for myself to give myself some motivation and inspiration to sit down and write. It’s all about books and stories and writing, so if you want to check out my first post and have a nosy round the rest of my blog please do so! Any feedback/criticism is welcome 🙂 Thanks x

    1. Hi Venandi Vita! I especially enjoyed your poem about girls and labeling.
I think your blog could use more images, and it might help if you change the color of the words in your posts to black. Grey can be difficult to distinguish from white.
      Hope this helps! 🙂

      1. Thank you so much! I genuinely appreciate the time you took out to go through it🌸 And as for your suggestion, I will positively edit my about page now. By the way, your blog is so different (in a good way) I’ve never seen blogs that are all about names 🙂

  3. Hi everyone. Here is my first post from my IntentionLand blog: https://intentionland.com/2016/05/15/clearing-out-the-old-the-potential-of-less/

I don’t have an About page yet, but I see IntentionLand as a place where I very briefly share my reactions to what I have witnessed or observed, often within myself. I say “Let me…”, but in my mind, each post is potentially universal. Since I can only speak for myself, I say “Let me…” and hope that perhaps some readers will see something for themselves, too, and choose to share the intention.

Thank you to anyone who visits my post for your interest and your time. And thank you, Michelle, for this forum for connecting, sharing, and discovering. I have enjoyed seeing what folks are up to, and making some new connections.

    1. FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is = to go to your blog’s main page and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.
