First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, and say hello to some other fresh faces.

If you’re already a few posts into your blog and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

Have a technical question? Try the WordPress.com Support Forums.

Want to learn more about blogging? Take a Blogging U. course.

If a blogger publishes her first post and no one reads it, did it really happen? Of course it did! But when someone does read it, even better. Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community.

To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here; feel free to introduce yourself, and tell us what you hope to blog about. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment. The first recognition a blogger gets is powerful, and you can provide that for someone brand-new!

Need help finding, copying, and pasting your link?

Head to your blog’s home page.

Click on the title of your post to open the individual post page.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar. You can copy by going to the Edit menu in your browser and selecting Copy, or with a keyboard shortcut (Control+C for a PC, Command+C on a Mac).

Paste the URL into a comment here. You can paste by going to the Edit menu in your browser and selecting Paste, or with a keyboard shortcut (Control+V for a PC, Command+V on a Mac).

That’s it!

You can make this a useful space for new bloggers with a few simple guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit one or two other bloggers here. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.
  • Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Keep comments civil. Even better: visit a blogger and leave your comment directly on their blog!
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you’ve never looked at our Commenting Guidelines, now might be a good time.

  1. Hi, I am brand spanking new to WordPress and this whole blogging thing! My 11 yr old daughter (then 10) had surgery to remove a large brain tumor 5 months ago. This is going to be a blog of me journaling my thoughts and reflecting on all that she has been through in hopes to help others know they are not alone!

    1. Hi Leslie, I think that it’s really important for you to keep on blogging because your story will be so helpful for other people who are having similar issues. It’s a wonderful reason to blog but deeply moving too. Wonderful because you can advise so many others on where to get the care and help that they need and moving because its raw and real. I am new too but your blog looks fab (as we say in England!) I have liked and followed you… Praying for you all too

      1. Hi, thank you so much for the feedback, that is definitely what I hope comes out of this, that it will help those going through similar situations. I also hope it can just inspire others as well. Thank you for the like and follow, I will check yours out as well.

  2. Hi.. I’m brand new (a week or so) with blogging. I’m a 46 year female who ran a marathon a few months ago and was diagnosed with colon cancer 2 weeks later. Go figure! I’m making lemonade out of lemons and sharing my new journey. Please check out my new blog at https://runningthroughthemud.com It’s not about running, but embracing the “mud” that we are dealt with in life, finding the good in it, and definitely finding the humor in all of it 😉
I look forward to any feedback / help you guys can offer! Thx!

    1. Hi Cathalbor! I liked how clean and neat your blog is.
      Feedback:
      1) Your post about the top spots in the world to visit – maybe write a little about those places? Let people know… persuade them…why they should visit those places!
      2) There is an empty “about” page. Write a little about yourself!

    1. Hi I really like your page and your photos looks great! Looks very sleak 🙂
I would recommend taking the contact us map off your page unless thats your business map. Sela theme has wordpress HQs info on the map and not yours so this wouldn’t be a connection to you which your followers may look for.

  3. Hi everyone! I’ve been writing poems since I can remember and thought I wouldn’t really ever publicly share them, but I’m trying to build on my talents this summer so I thought why not? Check them out and I’d love some feedback, since my site is very much still a work in progress. Much love – Yomna (Y.K) IG: ayoyumz

      1. Thank you so much! You don’t need to know about poetry, the hope is just that the words speak to you and you can make them your own. Honored that you enjoyed, xo

  5. Well, I started “blogging”….no real idea of what I’m doing. I write a little about almost any subject but to start am staying light and vaguely amusing.
Love to hear comments, ideas, critiques, etc.
her’s one of my first attempts:

    (gagnebarbara.wordpress.com) I hope!!

Okay……flap up or flap down. Growing up I was exposed to certain “family rituals.” My mother believed that replacing toilet paper was an art to be happily taught to all family members from toddlerhood on. She vehemently advocated placing the roll with the flap over the top. I think she aspired, at some point in her life, to work in a hotel. Then she could have passed her days quite happily folding little points in the flap – she thought it looked “finished.”
Needless to say, I was destined to be a disappointment to her. As long as there was an available roll and I didn’t have to resort to utilizing newspaper strips (not that it ever actually happened) I was content. In fact if you ever have had a toddler or a cat in the house you would soon realize that unrolling a whole roll of toilet paper and trailing it through the house is actually easier if the flap was over the top. If the flap fell down the back you could usually identify the sound of the roll whirling around and around and prevent the impending disaster. I state this from extensive experience.
So, when you visit our house, don’t look for points or curls or even cute sayings printed on the paper. It is toilet paper, people – be thankful it’s there and that you don’t have to beg for newspaper strips. But, if it really would make you feel better, feel free to fold any part of the flap you want before you leave.

  6. Hello Team. I was having the blog “La Case d’Anna” on another platform which I decided to leave in order to rebuild the space. I exported the old content but just started blogging (19th May) with the new line. It’s a blog about my vision of the world, self-development, books, a real special home. Have a look at my first post and feel free to come back, as i just launched a 365 day blogging challenge. Here you go: https://lacasedanna.com/2016/05/19/how-piece-by-piece-moved-me/

  7. Hi!
I journal on the regular. However it allows me to continue to live in my secrets. I want to be free, so I am putting it all out there, releasing the shame, guilt and demons. Shedding the past that has affected so much of my present. This has been one of the hardest decisions to make, but have been giving the support and blessings from those in my life to do it. I am hoping this be selfishly a bit therapeutic and reclaim my life and heal in the process one post at a time. I would love to connect to others who connect and feel a familiarity within my words.

    Thanks!
