Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. pretty pictures…..but I have no idea what you are talking about! LOL It’s all good. I personally stay away from technical pages as I simply don’t understand whatever the person is writing about, but your writing is clear and precise and that’s probably what you wanted to do. The theme is nice for your purposes. all the page links work. hope that helps.

      1. Thank you Suze. Glad to have a long time blogger review my posts. The blogging section that I have is for something that bloggers like you expect. I am still working on it!! Will keep you posted. Trust me, you have to wait for quite sometime to hear back from me 🙂 as I am still a learner in what you expect.

        PS: Your comments does help

    1. Hey thanks for sharing your post with us! I really think it’s important to share about depression because people who don’t have it really have no idea what it feels like to go through it. I really like your writing style as well. I would possibly work on a bit of editing (spell check and capitalization) before posting but besides that I really got lost in your post. Thanks again for sharing!

      1. Thank you! I’m an engineer, so spelling is definitely not a strength, but definitely something to work on as I enter into the blogging world. I agree with your perspective on depression. Awareness is important for those with loved ones or friends who suffer from this condition.

If you don’t mind, I’d love some feedback on my blog as well, especially my most recent post since it’s so far from my norm. It’s https://onwordswordpress.wordpress.com/
      Again, enjoyed your blog! Blessings!

  3. Hey guys! I have added a few new posts on my blog and I’m wondering if my posts and overall theme work alright? I’m a bit all over the place with travel posts and Japan posts and then shopping posts. I want to make my blog more accessible and fun for people to enjoy but I’m worried I’m not keeping everything on the same page with my posts. Please let me know! My blog is here:

  4. Straight to the point, positive message- I like it! Very motivating, and the spaced out/ sectioned format helps me not lose interest. I like the recap at the end but I would maybe make it a bit more brief. All together it looks good! Would you mind checking out my latest post? It’s very different than my usual so I’d really appreciate feedback, if I should keep it or lose it. Thanks!

    1. Aaron…I make it a daily practice to “blog-hop” here on WordPress. I see you’ve started blogging somewhat, but not really putting a mass of effort into it.

I would like you to ask yourself for some direction, then start from there. An About Page is an absolute must. I would also suggest writing your stories in the form of posts, or writing anything of interest to you to share (100 -400 words) with your fellow bloggers here at the Community Pool.

One thing we want to be is taken seriously. Please consider moving forward with much haste!!!

    1. I enjoyed reading your movie reviews. I hoped to also read your About. How did you come to the decision to write this type of blog? I think you’re good at it. You obviously enjoy doing the research, and it shows. Just curious about your intentions, and future plans for the blog.

      1. Hi. Thanks for the feedback. I may look at adding an about page in the future. I love writing and hope to change my career eventually where I can afford to live off my writing work- at the moment I make a bit of extra cash through some freelance work. I started writing the blog for two reasons- to develop my skills and to essentially create an online CV of my work so when I apply to write on different sites/for magazines etc I can refer them to my blog. At the moment I have some extra freelance work, plus my day job, so have posted left but I hope to continue the blog for the foreseeable future, possibly upgrading to a premium version if my career takes off. Hoping to eventually write a mixture of fictional work and movie/comic book articles for a living- one can but dream. Thanks again

    1. Hey Michelle! I love the look of your blog – the colours and the fonts are working well. I also enjoyed your first (well, second) post. I thought it was well written and not overly formal. I also like the fact that you seem to have planned what you want to do with it with the travel and marriage sections.

The only thing I might change if it was me, and this is all opinion, is that the text was all centered and I’m a bit of a traditionalist so would probably have it left justified. But that might just be me!

I’ve given you a follow because I think you’ll have some interesting stuff to write about coming up!

      1. Hey! Thank you, I’m working on them haha. Your blog is great, I love the concept of it, I’m not the biggest dog lover but I still loved reading your posts, and I hope Wilbur gets better soon! I gave you a follow so I can find out! x

    2. Congrats on your engagement. What fun you appear to be having. Keep snapping those images. Real-time photos are always a hit. I would personally like to read a bit more detail here and there. Answer questions you think your readers will ask about your journey. Make your answers conversational, and if at all possible, compelling. What you can’t answer in words, take more snaps to visually stimulate our imaginations. Let us in on a secret or two. Take us along as friendly, but nosy (OK curious) companions. Have fun!!!

    1. My feedback is thus…Bravo on just being you! I read honest posts. You are who you are, right where you are. Online is a cool place to be, especially in your age bracket. And your blog is all yours to do with as you wish. Continue making a connection, and as you wrote, providing a oasis for your age group. I found your blog lovely, and a work by you, May…in progress.

    1. you have an incredible story to tell and I think if you continue with the blog you will find a group of people that understand and will connect. I have one (and only one) suggestion. In your editor there is a “read more” tag. If you incorporate the use of it, your blog posts won’t take up so very much space on your page. It cleans “the clutter” so to speak. Do NOT change anything else. and PLEASE keep posting. following you.

    2. Hi, I like you’re writing. I only read the latest post where you’re not sure anyone would want to read. Don’t worry too much about that if your reason was taking out the rubbish, so to speak. If people want to read it, they will. If they don’t, they won’t.

The only bit of advice I can give is actually the layout. With a masonry layout like this it might be better to only have a post excerpt on the main page. At the bottom, you have a really long post surrounded by two smaller ones and it’s not so easy to easy the chronology when they don’t all fit on one screen.

(I always feel a bit odd commenting on layout because it’s all a matter of opinion, so that’s just a suggestion obviously!)

  7. As you can tell I’m even getting to grips with writing comments haha. Please bare with me. I have started a blog on living with anxiety and depression. I write about my experience, including snippets from my childhood and offer things in life I find inspirational to help heal and live a fulfilling life. I hope my blog helps comfort others who may have similar experiences. I will try my best to comment on your blogs and take a look at as many as I can. Please check out danacakit.wordpress.com. Many thanks 🙂

    1. Great testimony on the front page. Today I was reading excerpt from “Prozac nation” and I always feel compassion with depressed people since I was depressed for years. i believe you should keep writing. Who knows – you might turn that into the book “Prozac nation”-style 🙂

      1. Thank you for your comment 🙂 I haven’t read that book, it sounds interesting. There is too much to write about in one post but I didn’t follow in my mother’s footsteps with medication. I believe my depressive episodes were situational so I found ways of keeping the negatives out. I’ll keep posting 🙂

    1. That’s a pretty cool concept for a blog. I like how you incorporate some humor and conversation with your posts, rather than just throwing videos at the readers. Keep up the good work!

    1. I have never seen a blog like this before. I don’t know how you came up with a YouTube blog, but I think it is an awesome idea! It personally relates to me because I am on YouTube pretty much everyday. I knew most of the people you were talking about, and I can’t wait to see more!
