Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. I like your blog. It seems to be evolving nicely. You have some interesting real-time posts. In other words, you’re writing about your life, and doing it using a story format. You have some nice pictures. Wish you could have used a few with your “host” family. They would have made your newest post even more lively. Keep writing, and just like your doing reaching for and meeting your goals head-on…do the same with your blog.

What is your goal as a blogger? How can you get and give the most to your readers? What’s the difference you want to make, AND are you slowly but surely making the difference you want to make???

      1. Yes! Those oneliners appears often in my head, but they fly out at the same speed again, hopefully I can catch them in that category though 😉 And yes, I drew that myself along with some other ones as well, thank you for the compliment!

  1. Hi! I’m a blogger that is wheat, rice, oat free. All these foods give me eczema sadly. However, I love to create dishes that not only I enjoy eating/displaying, but I bet you would enjoy as well. Another section of my blog is about ballet, too, because I’m a grain-free ballerina striving to dance well, have fun, and stay fueled!

I hope you check it out/make comments/follow, I’ve written a couple grilling posts recently (including chicken skewers and a beautiful salad) as the weather warms up.

    1. I have found the the wp daily prompt is a wonderful source of inspiration. You can also just check the news or social media posts for an idea too.

    2. From what you have so far, it appears that your site is set up to comment on current events from a biblical perspective. If so, possible subjects should unfold in both daily life and the news. On your site, it would be nice to see and About page that tells us the purpose of your site. https://gracelead.co

      1. That’s a good idea Pam, I am thinking in the next month or so to get a theme up and having it a bit more organized. Your right an “About me” section is probably a must. 🙂

      1. I tried to edit out much of the rambling but it was the middle of the night. As for a title, I couldn’t think of one that was fit. I felt that Happy Birthday, Mom was too cliché and would deter readers. I thought about calling it remembering or reminiscing but it was more than that to me. Still unsure of an appropriate title for it.

      2. That’s the thing, I don’t feel any of that. With as much as she suffered, I wanted her gone even though I knew I would miss her desperately. For me, it was worse seeing and hearing her weaken so much that she became a ghost of this wonderful, intelligent, clever woman I called my Mom. Someone I am so proud to be so much like. I also knew it could get better but I had to wait to stop being overwhelmed with heartbreak and grief. I would get so fed up with the grief. I admit I got tired of hurting so deeply. I miss her more than I can express in words but nothing like I did two years ago. I’m not sure why I don’t. I know she is still with me, watching and guiding me. Periodically, able to feel her arms around me or smell her redoor perfume. See the conundrum? ☺️

  2. Hi there! I wrote a post about challenges that we all can face in life and I would really like some feedback on what you might think.
I like to write about things that encourage people and help them know they can be a leader in any area of life. I’d love to hear some feedback and comments on posts if it helped you.
Thanks so much and I’m always wanting to get better!

    1. You have good story telling skills and your About page makes the purpose of your site clear. Tea and theater is an unusual combination, but they make sense for you. The only thing I didn’t like about your site was the pop-up when first entering the site. https://gracelead.co

  3. Hi guys,

I’ve recently changed the layout of my blog and am wondering whether other people like it. I used to have it in 3 columns but felt like it needed a freshen up.

Any other feedback on my content is welcome too.

    Thanks!

      1. I have done as you suggested and changed the home page around. Thanks for saying something! It was really confusing and I wasn’t using half of what I could be using. You saved the day!
