Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Good afternoon everyone!

I’d love to get some feedback on my latest post about sports injuries…

How Much Do Injuries Affect Athletic Performance?

As someone who has been dealt their fare share of knocks, I feel I have a pretty good grasp on the mental and physical toll the tears and tough tackles have on aspiring sportspeople, but if you feel there’s anything I’ve left out or could have elaborated on please let me know!

I’ll return the favour on one of your posts, just be sure to include it in your response to this message! 🙂

    Have a great day!

  2. Hey guys I’ve audited my blog but haven’t put it up as a post. But I would like some feedback so how do I leave a link to that post that hasn’t been posted? Am confused.

    1. I would say before you start writing any more posts (unless you have something scheduled) that you should clean up the standard this is an about page and this is a text widget stuff. My first impression when I got to your blog was that there wasn’t anything finished on there so I almost stopped clicking before I got to the “Broken Pieces” writing. Other than that I think you wrote beautifully and clearly expressed yourself.

My blog is https://cee91blog.wordpress.com I just recently posted something about perceptions, misconceptions, and reunions.

My ode to him…My other half

    1. Hi Whitney. I love your site and very creative title! My one comment is about the sidebar: there’s too much there and it takes attention away from the posts. Also, I’d recommend choosing just one main affiliate for the sidebar and focus on that. It’s hard to tell what’s your book club links vs ads.

    1. My husband and I had a small wedding with just our immediate family and later, on a different date, had a party to celebrate with extended family and friends. It was perfect & wonderful for all of the reasons you said!

      1. Ellie, that is amazing! I am so glad that you were able to have your perfect wedding, especially without breaking the bank. What a smart & beautiful couple! My best wishes for the many years you spend together ❤️

        Thank you for the feedback,
        – Deborah M.

    1. I really like how neat your blog is! the color is pretty and easy on the eyes for reading. pictures are clear and enhance the blog posting. I would like to see an about page just because so many people check them out. I know you pretty much answered it all in your first post, but many people will not start at the beginning like I do. nice, nice blog!

  6. Hello all! I just posted something new about misconceptions people have about others, high school reunions, and how life changes. I’d love some feedback and to hear about any misconceptions that people have had about you throughout your life. I love interacting with everyone and seeing your opinions on the topics I write about.

    1. well, take it or leave it, BUT.I haven’t a clue who ANY of those bands are you speak about. but I enjoyed reading about them. (I’m still probably never going to listen to any of them after that youtube example). your writing is excellent, and I rarely tell anyone that. It is clear and concise and I actually found myself reading them all the way through. amazing actually. I would suggest that you use LESS tags. anything over seven or eight and the search engines give up on the post I am told. carry on!

      1. Thank you for the feedback- I’ll definitely try cutting down on my tags 😀 I really like the conversational tone on your blog 🙂

    2. I love the layout of your page. I find it very attractive and easy to read. Your posts are great & well broken up. Something that has been suggested to me in the past is to use more images throughout posts. Something to consider!

      1. Thanks! 😀 I will try and include more images and videos in future posts, as I do tend to get a bit ‘wordy’ 🙂
I had a little look at your blog and I think it’s very interesting- especially as you have more than one author contributing to your content. 😀

  7. Hi fellow bloggers! I write a blog about some of the harder things in life. Addiction, abuse, current events, psychological and sociological issues, feminism, etc. I like to write about things that matter and my personal experiences. I’ve hit a bit of a dry spell lately due to working too much and life generally being a bitch but I’ve posted a few things recently and many things before that. I would GREATLY APPRECIATE IT if some of you could check it out and give me your honest appraisal. I of course will return the favor 🙂 Thank you!

    A Little Intro…

    1. Amazing blog! Your writing is excellent, your message is powerful, and i think that you will not only teach many people but that you will also offer hope to them through your writing. keep it up please.

      1. I plan to. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. It’s been hard finding the time to write recently and I feel like I’ve done myself a disservice by not doing so. I need to write like I need to eat lol. I get thrown off balance if I don’t. It’s always nice to have some encouragement and motivation along the way. So thank you for that!!

    2. Really like your blog! I think you write about some really important things, & you do it well. The only advice I’d have is to either change the main header image you have (tree painting), or not have it show up in every post. It’s a gorgeous painting but I found it seemed a little off to me when I’d open new posts. Maybe you could create an image for that spot that says the blog title?

      1. Off as off center or off as in didn’t fit the content it was above? I must admit I picked it when I first started this blog and I did so just to get something up there. My end goal is to draw something with the name of my blog in it and take a picture of it so I can use that.

      2. I think it just looks a little odd with that image, followed by the image that goes with each individual post. Does that make sense? I think your plan to draw something with your blog name in it is perfect! Then you could remove the text that says your blog name and I think it would look awesome.

      3. See the issue is I have NO IDEA how to customize the theme. I don’t know if I can remove the smaller “Misfit Spirit” above it. I do get what you mean about the two photos being strange together. I’m thinking if I do the header with the blog name in it that even with the little name above it it will still look better than having two completely unrelated pictures. Does that make sense?

    1. two suggestions: complete the about page. You don’t have to write an autobiography but a bit about yourself and the focus of your blog would be nice. we like to know who it is we are reading their thoughts. second, I would use the “read more” in the editor. The entries, while not terribly long take up a lot of room on your page. and a lot of people will not bother scrolling down to see any other postings if they do not wish to read the latest one. otherwise looks very good.

  8. Hey everyone am an amateur blogger/writer still figuring and learning things through each blog I post. I’ve been writing since 6 months now. And I’ve experimented with quite a few posts on my blog.

I am most amazed by the way you placed the a-z challenge in one blog post thru links! what a terrific idea! by the way I will probably steal that idea away from you on my next challenge group. keep up the good work!

    1. okay. You want the truth right? here it is. Your writing is very nice, just a touch of humor thrown in to make people snicker. You have a nice way of having your writing become visible to people..that is we can SEE what you are writing like a tiny television show. It is an amazing thing to be able to do. The blog theme is pretty without being pretentious. good job there. it is clean looking, all the links work perfectly and it doesn’t have a bunch of clutter on it. Nice job all the way around. and since you asked, you can check me out at http://www.suziland.net you can’t just clik on me and see my blog because i have my own domain.

      1. Your blog is effortlessly hilarious and wonderful. I don’t even feel like I’m reading because I can see it play out in front of me. I read about your struggles that came with picking a new blog theme but it looks great now. Keep up the amazing work.
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback.

      1. To me, personally, I’m a fan of simple and elegant, with an undertone of artsy flare. I try to find myself in the colors, imagine visuals to surround my page, and also try to aesthetically cater to not only myself but my (amazing) viewers as well.

Thank you so much for the compliments! Much love-
        M
