Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hello.
I have just started my blog about Nails and my life as a mother of 3 boys. Would love if people could check it out and let me know how I am doing for my first time?

Thank you and good luck everyone 🙂

  2. Hello! I have just started a little blog: https://bigbabybelly.wordpress.com/# It is very simple and very much NOT my day job. Can you help me with a very straightforward question?? I want “reviews” on the top menu to be something you can click on that shows the two reviews I’ve posted there, rather than a drop down menu. I also want the posts that appear there to also appear on the home page, as they are now.

    Thank you so much!

  3. Hello cyberspacers! I’ve been wanting to visit all 50 states, 7 continents, and 5 oceans since I was in high school. I’m now making my way through the states and in September I’ll have 2 continents down. I’m writing about my experiences and what I liked or didn’t like.

I just recently posted, “Illinois…Not just Chicago” which is all about hidden gems in Illinois and 2 trips to Chicago. I have photos to go along with it and was wanting some feedback good, bad, ok, what should I do differently with it. Anything would help and I’d be willing to check out your blog.

    1. I’d encourage you to wait and see what positive things happen in September. You may do a whole refresh then, as your life path will change a bit. At present, your site appears to be evolving. You don’t appear to be forcing anything on us, your readers. You do seem to have a lot on your mind right now; especially your upcoming life change. Just let it be until…you’ll know when!

      1. Thanks for the feedback. My posts have definitely evolved from the first couple that were horrible boring to myself when rereading. It’ll be interesting to see what I’ll want to write about in my September.

    1. I think adding an “About Me” would help viewers connect with you better. It’s always nice to know who someone is and why they blog 🙂

    1. I read LIFE. It definitely fits the Musing category. It spoke volumes to me, and I believe I got your meaning. Here’s hoping there’s an update to LIFE one day soon. I personally believe there’s much more LIFE to come — no lid!

  4. Hello!! I’m new to WordPress! I just started my blog two days ago so I only have a few posts so far, but there will be plenty more to come. My blog will include all things travel – my adventures and my thoughts on expat life, information on going vegan and plant-based recipes, tips on long distance relationships, my fitness journey, style inspiration, and more!
Would love if you checked it out 🙂

    1. I believe I’ve visited your blog before. When I saw the title here again today, I pretended I hadn’t. Why? Because I’m also plant-based, and love to travel. Hence, it’s thrilling for you to check out your blog twice. The variety suits you!

    1. I took a quick glance at your page. I’m not the right person to comment on your content, but I though the layout was really great! The design was on point! I think there is potential here for the two of you to do some cool stuff.

    1. Happy Living to you too. I did leave several comments on your blog, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I like it as it is. I didn’t even see a typo. You? What impresses me most is your goal to do something new every day. I love new and different myself, so this resonated with me. If you need more direction, ask yourself this question: “How does my blog make me feel?” This should help you refresh it as you deem necessary. It’s you blog after all. Unless it has not been given any attention (and we know that’s not the case), it will probably suit the readers here on WordPress just fine. Highest and Best!

  7. Hello all. I’ve been blogging since October and have really enjoyed writing about my love for books and movies. I do try to post my reviews as much as I can be lately I’ve been in a reading slump. It’s been just as hard to express how I feel about the books I read as it is to find time to read the books.
But I do post often about the things that I’ve been up to in regards to my love for books and movies.

  8. Hi, everyone! I recently updated my About page, and would love some feedback from anyone willing to take a look. Here is the link: https://blogging0380.wordpress.com/about-2/. I welcome all advice and opinions, either as a reply to this comment or a comment to my page. I just ask that you be respectful. 🙂 I’m going for an interesting, eye-catching, and inviting About page, and just want to know if I’ve accomplished that. Thank you in advance! Have a great weekend!

    1. I like your recently updated About Page. In my opinion, every blog needs one. It’s a draw for readers who want to know the author of the blog. Your facelift is a dandy. I like the prose, and the pictures you used to accentuate the prose. I sense a bit of whimsy in all of your posts. The About page is no exception. Besides, you seem to be happy with it. If you are, I are.

May I just say, I like having not only a Like Button on my About, but an enabled Comment Button too. Readers seem to be quite respectful over on my blog. If one slips in their own mud, I would simply delete the comment. I’ve never had to so far. Just a mention!

      1. Thank you for checking it out. I’m glad the pictures fit in .. I was concerned it was a bit long for an About page, so I thought adding images would help.
You know, I never even realized that the pages I created didn’t automatically enable comments like the posts. I’ve enabled comments in each of my pages .. Thanks for mentioning it! 🙂

  9. Hey everyone! I’ve been working on my blog for about 2 months. I would really appreciate any positive criticism. Specifically, is my writing relevant and is it engaging? Here is a link to my last post, “Waiting on God” – https://rosschellis.com/2016/05/19/waiting-on-god/. Lastly, reading the content created by others has been extremely enjoyable. Thank you for sharing your gifts…And, send me a link if you would like me to read your blog.

    1. Yes, the topic is relevant, at least to me. You made your point clearly. I did notice a few typos. If you know anyone who can proofread, it might be helpful. If not, you could do what I do, create a draft, let it sit for at least a day, then proofread it myself. https://gracelead.co

      1. Thank you so much for reading and giving consideration to my writing. I immediately went back to my post as read through it (slowly). You were correct. There were several obvious typos. I have a bad habit of getting excited and hurrying to post! Your advice is spot-on. I need to take a day and wait to post. Again, thank you! ….. I took a glance at your sight. Honestly, I think the concept is really cool. I have not seen another site like https://gracelead.co. I look forward to following!

      1. Thank you so much for reading and offering your opinion. I do hope for my reflections to be revenant to life situation of others. Thank you, as well, for sharing your link to https://hazmattblog.wordpress.com/. I enjoyed checking it out. I, especially, enjoyed the pictures posted to accompany your stories. They reminded me of my time flyflishing on the Eno River in Durham, NC, while in school!

    1. I think you have the right idea with your post; blogging is all about sharing your thoughts, experiences, interests, etc… with others. I find I like to read blogs when someone shares information or pictures of something new, different, or though-provoking, and I think some of the things you discuss in your post would fit those categories.

    1. I read a couple of your posts. I really enjoyed them – especially, “her.” From your first post, I realize we have different perspectives, but (as one who works with teenagers) I appreciate what you have to say and your willingness to share them. Also, the yellow umbrella is a really great name…I don’t now what it means, which makes in all the more interesting.
