Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hey guys,

It’s Eli here! I’ve started a blog site called 4eos(4elements of surprise) about being young, impatient and expecting big things in your life. Asking questions, discovering yourself and finding out just what the point of it all is. I am dying to hear your thoughts on layout, content or just to hear you say hi! Stay Sweet!

    1. Chloe…I read your latest post. It took me several reads before what you wanted me to know sunk it. You are making a great point.

Are you sure you want to spell Gourmet with an extra “n” in it. I looked it up using your spelling on Google and Bing. I believe your spelling has one letter two many. Once I used Gourmet, then reread your post, I fully understood that the plastic eating mushrooms will be a great help to stop the plastic epidemic.

Also, the Vimeo video is right on time. Personally, I would place it in the middle of the post, as opposed to at the bottom. Or some other applicable image. However, when you spell your work without the “n,” by the time your readers reach the end of your post, they will understand that there are mushrooms in the little bowls consuming the plastic over time.

One more tiny matter…your About. Consider having Like buttons, and also a Comments button. People love to read the About page, and most typically leave a Like, a Comment, or both.

  2. Hello bloggers,
Sharing a post i wrote some time ago. Its about working in an office and finding the balance to it. Since it was among my first posts it seems a bit bulky. Sharing nonetheless, in the hope some others may find something of value.

    1. I also prefer to take a Monday off! Regarding your post, it is a bit bulky, but all the content is good. It would be interesting to break it up into a series, perhaps one for each day of the week, and include an anecdote to illustrate your points.

  4. Hi, I’ve just started my writing blog this week. Adding a poem, song and short story every day. Please drop by and give some feedback, positive or negative, I don’t hang out in the literary world and have no idea about the content I produce. Thanks in advance and if you want an opinion on your own work, feel free to drop me a line.

  5. Hello to the person that’s taking the time to read this comment! 🙂 I’ve started my blog a few days ago and I’d really appreciate if you can give me any feedback whether it be negative or positive. I write about anything that involves change, empowerment, happiness, love and the major problems inflicted on our world today, so you can check my blog out if you’re interested! Thanks fam

  6. I’m a family history/genealogy blogger and storyteller, and I’d love some feedback on my blog! I just transitioned to a new theme, and I’m interested to know if it draws in readers who are interested in more than just genealogy. It’s not a “this person begat this person,” but a collection of stories of interesting people who are occasionally related to me. (Some posts reverted to previous versions, so I’m working on typos and cleanup right now, but I’d enjoy any feedback, and I’m happy to do the same for others!)

      1. Thank you! I struggled with the story, the post, the theme– all of it. My blog is such a niche market that it’s been hard to ind my market. I’m hoping that this theme change will help people see the different individual stories. Thank you for reading!

  7. Hi everybody! I write a blog called Misstery blog. Where I talk about anything and everything that is on my mind. I have not long started my blog, and I am so close to hitting 300 followers, which is insane to me, because blogging has always been a huge dream of mine. I like to post beauty styled posts, but I don’t just write about beauty. My recent posts is about the addiction of perfection. Would love if you could check my blog out! https://missteryblog.wordpress.com/

    1. Great that you put a trigger warning in there. I thought your posts were very powerful and honest. Definitely a blog I’ll be following. My only suggestion would be to work on the aesthetics of the blog

  8. hi everyone!

Just hoping some people could visit my site quickly and let me know what they think about some of my posts, layout, if they like or do not like anything. This is my free space to write anything that comes to mind. My safe haven for venting sometimes. I would also like to be able to get more readers. I would love to be able to be that person to help people and relate to them during certain situations that happen in my life!

    thanks D

      2. It worked when I manually input the URL, but not when I clicked on your name. First, I love the name of your blog. Second, your posts are easy to relate to. The only criticism that I have is that there are some grammatical errors (like lowercase “I”s, which I know a lot of people don’t care about, but I’m weird with that stuff). Other than that, maybe a header image too?

    1. Really wonderful blog and I love the pictures, I would just suggest maybe putting some more stuff in the sidebar or experiment with having category pages, I wished I would have done that when I started blogging. I would love it if you checked out my blog

  9. Hi everyone! I’m not sure if this is the correct venue to share but I was asked to share my voice on HuffPost Blogs. Crossing my fingers and toes that my below post gets promoted to their platform. Please feel free to comment and stop my blog. Your feedback is GREATLY appreciated 🙂

Feel free to stop by my blog for additional comments. Thank you all for being such a terrific community 🙂

    1. That’s so sweet that you’re still finding their love letters. The post was a beautiful tribute to both parents, but the audience was confusing. The title makes it seem like you are writing to your mother, but most of the article you are explaining to a broader audience the love between your parents, and then the last paragraph addresses her again. I don’t see a problem with switching focus but maybe just change the title.

    1. Hi, I would recommend simplifying your word choice. many would not know what promulgating is. And if they do, it still sounds too fancy. The goal is to help readers identify with you. Other than that, the site looks great 🙂

    2. I really loved your blog that I had to click follow! your style was so original. Yes the welcome page is nice but would put it in the side bar and just have your most recent posts as home for everyone to see. i would love it if you checked out my blog!

      1. I have written several guest posts and have not had any traffic from those sites. Literally no clicks. I’ve read that you need to do it frequently, like at least once a week, in order to gain traffic. I’ve had big companies share my guest posts, which brings those sites lots of traffic, yet no one clicks to read about the author of the post (linking to my blog).

    1. Really loved your blog! really amazing content and ideas. I the opt-in locations are really good because there not so in your face, plus they don’t interrupt the reading which can leave people frustrated. I would just change the font add some more pictures and badges and maybe a picture of you with a quick blurb in the sidebar and it will be as killer as your content

I would love it if you could give me some feedback on my blog

    2. I agree with Donatella about the content – really enjoy posts and the visual format of the blog. All the follow buttons/options really turned me off…I personally like one follow button, but I understand that you’re trying to increase followers and traffic. Certainly a blog I’ll continue reading

  11. Hello i hope everyones Monday is going well. I just posted a post and i would love some feedback on it, it was kind of different then what I am used to! I would also like to know what you all think about the layout of my blog, I have been playing around with it for a while. For example – to much stuff in the sidebar, not enough posts in a certain category.

P.S I would love to return the favour
