Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Intentergy is the positivity blog I began one month ago today. I am very proud of the positive message of my posts and images. Many of friends have sent encouraging responses to my posts but are too unsure of the blogging world to post comments on the actual blog pages. I would love feedback on the flow of my blog’s design and how to be more inviting for comments.

  2. Is it necessary to focus on one particular topic for your blog or can you write on a plethora of topics? Which is better?

    1. My theme is Christian based but I gave different categories. Just getting my feet wet. Write about what your passionate about. Enjoy.

    2. I often hear people starting different blogs for different things. Personally, I just keep everything on the same blog but then I’m a casual blogger not really looking for anything out of blogging.

      1. I think it depends on your purpose. Do you want loads and loads of followers for commercial/publicity purposes or is blogging just a means of self expression and a casual enterprise? If this is just a casual/non-casual enterprise, then I would say it’s okay to do one blog on a variety of topics as long as you make the blog about yourself and you are genuinely interested in a multitude of topics. If you are doing a blog for a commercial reason, then I think it makes sense for you to spin out separate blogs based on topics/themes in order to target particular markets/readers.

      2. I’m new to the blogging world so I’m not really sure if it’s for commercial purpose or a casual enterprise. I’m still getting the feel of it. But your comment has been useful. Thank you:)

    1. Hi, Jennifer, looking at your blog, one thing I would suggest is to add some drop-down menus for the different categories of posts you write about. I realise mostly you are writing your entries in a diary type of way but I think you can put the 30-day writing challenge you are currently doing in a separate category on its own and then add that to your menu. Go to your Dashboard, and then go down to Appearance > Menus. You should be able to create a menu quite easily once you’ve created some categories under Posts > Categories on the Dashboard.

    1. Definitely need to reduce the size of the header. The answer is probably at learn.wordpress.com, or you could search the WordPress support page.

I didn’t see any menu or category list for posts. I think that would improve your navigation a lot.

      1. Hi Brian,
Thanks for the feedback. others have said the same but I’m struggling to customise it to make the image fit. I couldn’t find any useful advice at learn.wordpress.com
Do you know how it can be done?

      2. I looked at the theme’s description at https://sapordemo.wordpress.com/about/. It says the header space is designed to be 1080 x 800 pixels. So my best guess is you need to size/resize your image to those dimensions before you insert it into your blog.

I notice you’ve already modified your home page. Looks good.

  4. I’m continuing the requests for feedback on new blogs. I’ve planned this blog for the past nine months but only brought it out into the world yesterday. It’s had quite a few views but little feedback. I would appreciate any comments and suggestions: https://interpretivemind.com/about/

    1. I think you need to add “Home” to your menu line, along with “About”. I was confused about navigating your blog at first.

I wonder if you are using tags for your posts? Creative tagging can bring you readers who are attuned to your interests.

    2. I liked the layout and what you wrote in the about section. I would suggest that you add a menu or categories as you begin adding to your writings so that people can find things easily.

    1. Hey! So I gave your blog a read and I think it has a fun layout! The one thing I would say is that you comment too much on your blog not being successful or that it won’t be in the future. Self depricating humor can be great but I think you have over used it here. That’s just what I picked up on but keep blogging, I’m interested to see what you have to say next 🙂 ps – I also like salad fingers!

      1. Thanks guys. Yeah, I noticed that I used it too much. Thanks for the feedback. I’m gonna edit it right now. I love shane and his conspiracy theories. And I’m glad you have the same weird tastes as I do stephabbot.”The feeling off rust against my skin is orgasmic”. I’m gonna check out your blog right now.

  5. If you are one, you are most welcome. If you aren’t, you are also most welcome. I am not prejudiced, other chewers, biters, pickers, flickers, wriggler’s, hummers, hoppers etc. you get the gist, should stop by too :o>

    1. I’ve never seen that theme before. I wonder if another theme would work better? The one you’re using seems like a lot of boxes that don’t really show your work very well, and it puts all the navigation at the bottom. What you’ve posted so far reads well, but I think it deserves a better theme. Good luck.

  6. Hi everyone! I started a new blog almost 2 weeks ago. I’m currently living and working in China ( I’m originally from Scotland) and I wanted to share my experiences, give travel advice and inspire others 🙂 It would be great if you could give me some feedback about if you find it interesting, entertaining and above all not generic. Feedback on the photos would also be appreciated. Thank you so much 🙂

    1. I really like your style of writing. Your stories are hilarious. And yes, I did find it different. Scotland to China. That isn’t very common. I love the photos. Very professional. Love the atmosphere too.

    2. Hey I really liked your blog and could relate since I’m teaching in South Korea (never leave home without tissues). LOL.
I think it would be a good addition if you could add an “about” section that is a short introduction to who you are and what the blog is about and you could even link it to “my journey” for an expanded version.

      1. Thank you so much! I think you are right about adding and ‘About me’ section, I think that will add another layer and give people a better idea of who I am. I will check out your page too 🙂

  7. Hey everyone I just started a blog and I would like to get some feedback. I currently write about different things such as things that happen in my life, makeup reviews, recipes and DIY’s. I enjoy writing anything that come ls into mind and it gets a bit discouraging at times that I don’t get any readers. I would really appreciate it if you guys could check my blog out and let me know what you think and what I should improve on doing.

  8. Just started a travel blog, complete beginner and was wondering how to only display excerpts on the homepage without the need for using code? Thanks 🙂

    1. You can use the “continue reading” feature. It’s in your text editor when making or editing a post. It’s the last icon, the one after the spell check ABC.

  9. Hello everyone! I just started blogging as well. I wanted to be able to inspire everyone on a positive note nothing real special. Some people can relate to unspoken things so I figured why not just spread the love and my personal insight. I don’t touch on just one topic, I just speak about how I’m feeling for the day. Hope everyone enjoys! I will be back and forth here though for some great insight on how to improve in reaching out to others. And how to jazz my posts up a bit. Thanks!

    1. I really liked your format – it was so uplifting. I would recommend adding an “About” section so people know who you are and what your blog is about. I usually check the “about” section before following a blog to make sure it is interesting to me and not just one “fluke” post that caught my attention.

  10. Hello, I am trying to start a blog in which I just blog about day to day life or the different things that I go through as a new mother. Also I have another separate blog I want to use to focus on writing but I’m just not sure where to start. My personal blog is littlepieceofsunshine.com and my writing blog is spinonwords.wordpress.com

    1. Hey ! So I checked out your blog and I really like the top picture and quote on your page. I am not a religious person myself but I am always open to learning about people of different faiths. One thing I would suggest is using different pictures through out your blog, you have a lot of stock pictures from the internet and I think it would be better to use pictures of you, that you have taken something and that I can’t find online. You have some really interesting posts and I can relate to many of them, also congratulations on your award! 🙂

  12. I think this is the best way to get help.
WordPress bloggers, I need help. And the help I need is not about needing feedback, blah ,blah, blah…
Please, this guy at my school called Tiger also has a blog. And he has a crush on me, which is totally embarrasing( I know I spelled it wrong but this is urgent. ) And now he is copying my every move. Like seriously. I did a WordPress Emoji post, and he did one too!
And no matter HOW many times I change my theme, he changes into the exact same theme. Even the girly ones. Really.
And right now I need help! He is getting more and more annoying, and it is making me very uncomfortable. Plz HELP!!! 😦

    1. You could set your blog to be private, so only people you invite could visit. In the WordPress Dashboard, click Settings, then Reading, then look for Site Visibility.

    2. Oh, you poor thing! I hope the creepy guy stops doing that! And he is actually public about his feeling for you: https://funnystoriesbytigerwordspress.wordpress.com/2016/03/15/protection/
You could probably tell him to steer clear and mind his own business. That could help you get the appreciation you need for your blog, and also make this guy stay away.
I now I’m not much of help here, but I do feel bad for you. Cheers and all the best!

    3. Have you tried talking to him? Tell him in person to knock it off. You need to let him know that you’re not okay with it and that you’re upset. And then stop visiting his blog. Don’t support his childish ways by giving him a view.

    1. I commented directly to the post, but wanted to give a more generalized feedback here for you. Which is: Awesome. You express yourself wonderfully and I love that you are open and honest with your not so shiny feelings. Its refreshing. Please continue. I’ll be following.

    2. Maggy! I must applaud you on this insightful, brave and honest post! 🙂 I am currently living in China and I have had some terrible feelings of homesickness, thinking about what my friends are doing in the UK and how other people seem to be much better at the game of life than I am. I love your link with the Little mermaid (It’s my favorite movie!) Can’t wait to read your next post!

Oh wow, I moved from NZ to Australia so there’s at least no huge culture shock, I can’t imagine how much more difficult it must be for you!

        Good luck, internet friend 🙂

if you’re a bit quirky and like to break rules (no capital letter at the start of this overly long sentence, that you already spotted and got niggled about, or, didn’t notice and don’t actually care about) come join me. I often eat cake. Talk with my mouthful. Swap between tea and coffee in my choice of hot drinks. You won’t be disappointed by the action… or, if you are just tell me…s’cool.

  14. Hi! I’m starting this blog mostly to share about… well, the life as I see it. I’m a quirk generator and I found pleasure in observing little things in life, so that’s what I’m trying to dig deeper in my writings. Here’s my first writing to give you some picture about what I do. Tell me how you think about it! And oh, drop me a link of your blog if you think we have something in common 🙂
