Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hey bloggers! My blog started out as being more of a therapy for me. I purposely made my sentence structure different with lots of commas, because I had hoped my readers would read the blog with the pauses as if I were talking out loud. I’d love feedback because people we know in life could say how great our work is, but I would love to know if it is as good as they say by you, my fellow writers. Thank you so much!

    1. Hello!
I personally enjoyed it. The layout is awesome because it’s very fitting to the way you write. Personally for me, it’s definitely something to get used to because I was always taught correct grammar. But I am not opposed to your style at all. It’s your blog and whatever helps you write, I say do it. Besides, it really is almost as if someone was just talking to me when I read your work. So keep up the great job 🙂 I wish you the best of luck!

      1. Wow, thank you so much. Ironically, I’m totally up for proper grammar any other time! Ha! But, it really is my intention, and I appreciate you seeing it that way after I explained it. I’m so glad it is what I hoped it would be! Lots of others! Don’t give just one a check up. 🙂

  2. Just checking in to see who is still reading my stuff. You folks are so dedicated or addicted, it’s amazing. It brings new meaning to compulsive -obsessive BD; or is that obsessive-compulsive BD? Best regards from

    1. Ok, just got back. This looks like it’s going to be a really fun blog, with lots of creativity and stories (I love stories!). I think it’s great that you and your brother are doing it together. I’d love to have someone sharing the workload of blogging sometimes. 🙂 The only thing I might change is the layout. Maybe choose one that lets more than one post show on the home page, that way when people come to visit your blog, they will have more posts to choose from than just the most recent.
      Looking good though!

      1. I appreciate it. I try to figure how to do that. Can tell me how i could do that, because soon i will upgrade my website; so i can do more.
That’s what type of blog i am trying to do. Master Bros. will be my first published book.

      2. You can change the way your blog looks by clicking the “my site” tab in the top left corner. When the bar drops down, click “Customize.” This will take you to a place where you can change anything on your website. The great thing is you can see what it will look like before you actually make the changes, so if you don’t like it, you haven’t messed up your site. If you want to change the overall look of your site, go under the “active themes” and click the “change” button. It will let you try out hundreds of themes. If you like one, hit save.
Hopefully this wasn’t too confusing. 🙂

      3. I like what you did with the Hashna Stone story.. Then you have the vote for what happens next. That is pretty awesome. Start reading to catch up. I doing the same thing with The Tale Warlock Lazimus. Start writing new chapters every week.

  4. So I recently finished reading book number 6 in my book challenge, which was The Great Gatsby. You can read my thoughts about it here.

But I want to ask the WordPress Community to recommend me books. Right now, my interest is mainly on Latin American literature, so if you know any Latin American authors, poets, novels, or even history readings; shoot a comment here.

However, I am still open to other book recommendations. Tell me what your favorite book is. Recommend me a book that best resonates with your personality.

      1. Um its called the “Last Dawn”…I like because it reminds me of that scene in the film “Seeking a friend for the end of the World”, where Kierra Knightley and Steve Carrell are lying there and the world is literally about to end, but yet there’s a calmness to having the last dawn as well. Have you read it before?

There is no alarm in the poem or panic. Haha I’m sorry if I sound weird :/ But you get it right?

      3. I get what you mean. I haven’t read “Last Dawn” yet, but I have seen “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.”
I went to my local bookstore today, in hopes to find his poetry books, but sadly they didn’t have any. I did, however, find “The Labyrinth Of Solitude.” It’s a collection of essays that he wrote about Mexico, so it should help expand my knowledge on the beloved country.

      4. Yeah, ha I just remember that last scene in the movie. They were somewhat settled, and honestly it stood out to me. Why do you have interest in Mexico are you from there or plan on visiting? Or…

    1. I think you’re doing a great job. You are very thorough with the tips you give. Especially in your post “make it your own.” Your work is great and I love all your pictures. Keep up the great work! As a fellow photographer, I’d love to follow you, but I can’t seem to find a follow button ):

    1. I don’t think it looks too dull, the photos help in breaking it up. If you want to spice it up a bit, I might recommend a header image with a color or pattern other than the deep gray. Other than that I think it looks professional and well done.

    2. Hi. Looked over your blog. Am fairly new to this and use a basic design myself so take my comments with a pinch of salt. Also I was viewing on a mobile device. There is a constant grey border and that is quite off putting, especially when nex to the black and white text. Maybe simplyfy the amount of text to just a teasing line or portion of the first line. The title and image should be enough to lure readers in and get them.reading. The content looked good and varied though so I think it is mainly a design issue here. Simply put, on a mobile device the amount of black and white text plus the grey border severely undermine the colourful articles and could deter readers. Try a few ideas out and always check how your site looks on phones, tablets and computer.

    3. It looks professional. I tried to find the like buttom, so I could like it, but I did not see one. It only allows a reader to comment. I’m not sure if this is something you are aware of, but overall, I believe you are on the way to accomplishing your sense of professionalism. You have a variety of topics, and your wording is engaging and not too serious in nature.

  6. My blog like others is a continual work in process. This is my first month blogging, I’ve accomplished a lot of posting. I’m changing around header graphics and background coloring. Eventually, I desire to find the ideal background (if such one). I’m still finding my niche in writing style, but my agenda is to address matters of the heart and show versatility in style. In addition, my interest is bringing more awareness to multiculturalism. Please feel free to view my blogs, add input, share thoughts to help me reach my objectives. I hope I’m not asking for a lot. I look forward to learning about you and your blogs from this community pool.

  8. Hi everyone! So I am Strikedbyepicness and I like writing a lot of random things. I started this blog to vent all my emotions out to and for people to read, comment and like me for who I am as a person. I write in chatty style posts and write about my emotions, things that are happening in the world or just some stuff that I want to rant about. I would really appreciate it if you would check out my blog.
    Thank you 🙂

      1. No particular genre. Have touched upon a few different films, articles about dicaprio and the Oscars, plenty of deadpool, the films what we do in the shadows and kiss kiss bang bang. Just things I like- my fave films include the usual suspects, Les mis, avengers. Quite varied.

    1. I like how open you are with your homesickness and your experiences in college so far. My one critique I guess is the center alignment of your text. At first I thought your posts were poetry, but the more I read, the more I got the impression that your blog is more journal-like. If this is the case, I’m not sure aligning your text in the center is the best placement. But that’s my view. If you like it, then go for it!

Is this your first year in college? Keep up the good work!

    1. Your blog is interesting but a litle too white in my opinion. Add pictures or change the theme for a more colorful one if you can :p

      Liked by 2 people

    2. The white doesn’t bother me, actually 🙂 But adding pictures is always a good idea, I think!

I’d also be careful of your grammar — some things aren’t capitalized that should be, such as the beginning of words or “I.” This may seem like a little thing, but it’s pretty important. 🙂

Would you mind checking out my blog as well?

      1. Thank you for your feedback! my computer doesn’t automatically do capitalizations and I type really fast so it gets kind of annoying to keep pressing Caps. (my shift key doesn’t work.) I will definitely check your blog out!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Ahh, the pain of being a fast typer. I’m right there with you! 🙂 Like I said, it’s not the hugest deal, but it will definitely make your blog look more professional. Right now it has a very informal feel. 🙂

I read through a few of your posts and really enjoyed them. I love all the pictures you use as well as the categories you have. Especially the travel and photography categories. Great job on those 🙂 Keep up the great work! I’m going to give a follow!

  11. Hello all. I’ve been posting about my travels on FB for some years now and just recently started a travel blog titled, Grandpa’s Gone Again? In my most recent post I changed from my usual past tense form to one of present tense, and was wondering what others think of this form and what their experiences are as to which form is best received by readers.

    Please check it out at:
