Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Did you just start blogging and you’re not sure how to get going? Has your blog been dormant for a while but you’d like to give it a jolt of life? Join our free Blogging 101 course (or any of our other offerings at Blogging U.).

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. I enjoyed your photos even though I can’t read/speak German.
My suggestion is to change your red URL links to blue. It’s easier on the eye, and people can relate the blue to being something they should click on to see more.. Hope that helps!

    1. Hi Christina,
I loved going through your blog. I can totally see your blog looking amazing. You seem to have a good eye. Most new comers to the wordpress community don’t have as aesthetic looking blogs like yours.
I’m also a huge lover of travel and so your blog definitely piqued my interest. It’s awesome to find many others who share this passion. So I wish you the best of luck! I hope you have lots of fun traveling 🙂 Travel safely!

  1. Hello! I have a question!
Do you know any blogs or community pools like this in spanish?
It will be delightful because it´s my first language 🙂

    1. There’s no Spanish equivalent of the Community Pool — at least not offered here at The Daily Post. To find Spanish blogs, I’d recommend looking up Spanish tags in the Reader — you’re bound to stumble on some good stuff!

  2. Greetings all, I’m back again. I wanna say I really enjoy, & would like to thank you All for the inspiration I’ve gained from using this medium. This is my latest work, & I’d love to get some pointers on my style & delivery. I blog about NOTHING, but it may be far from what you think. Any feedback is welcome as your suggestions only make it better. With that said, here’s the link https://weknownothing2015.wordpress.com/nothing-like-it feel free to be brutally honest!

  3. Hello Community Pool. I’m pretty new to WordPress. I’m an aspiring writer and ultimately I would like to use my page to showcase and advertise my work. I just wanted to thank you good folks for the resources you make available to the blogging community. I will study these materials and I will be leaving more relevant and interesting comments here in the future. Again, thank you.

  4. I’ve started a blog about training for the London Marathon. sheanne.com I love writing so obviously I want people to read and enjoy my blog, but it’s main purpose is to get sponsors, which so far it hasn’t been doing that well. Can anyone suggest what I can do with the blog to encourage more sponsors?
    Thannks!

    1. I like it – well written posts, not too long, evoking images of the places you’re running. Decent pictures to illustrate the narrative. Not sure how you’re going to spread the readership other than plugging away and keeping publishing it on social media. From a reading point of view, the only thing I’d like a little more of it target driven narrative: progress towards running and funds raising goals. Longest run to date, fastest intervals etc etc oh and why did the snow stop an off road run? It’s the best! Pavement highly dangerous in snow of course, but off road is awesome – in off road shoes….!

      1. Thanks so much Chrisandhels. Yeah I think you are right about having more target driven stuff, I will defo do that. Someone else mentioned a mileage counter so I could tie that all in together. I start a 16 week training programme in January so was going to do more performance based stuff then, but maybe I should start it sooner and mix it up.
Haha I thought it would be too dangerous, the snow was really soft and slippy at that time. I’m sure it will be back soon enough so I’ll maybe try some off-road running in it next time (and do a post!)
Do you have a blog? What’s the address?

  5. Hi Bloggers!

I’ve been around blogging for some time but am yet to find my niche. My work generally revolves around photography, poetry and storytelling. Would love it if you could go through my work and suggest improvements!
    Thanks a ton! 🙂

  6. Hello bloggers,
Well, I have started blogging recently, say a few months back and try hard to keep posting as often as I can. I would appreciate if you have a look and guide me along to make it better.
Even post specific suggestions would be great as they will help me in improving my writing!

  7. Hello all. Would any poets (or non-poets!) out there be interested in dropping by on my latest post. I’m a total amateur poet so any constructive feedback would be welcome, especially on formatting and grammar. Here is my post: http://girlunoccupied.com/2015/12/09/page/ It’s a little bit dark, like a lot of my stuff, so be warned.

    1. It’s a good little poem, the metaphors work but there’s something about the rhythm that doesn’t quite add up. Perhaps it’s the ‘and’ at the beginning of the sixth line. Maybe it’s more of an overall thing – I’d probably look for an extra stanza, to be placed third, to cement the structure and embed the metaphor more fully before breaking it with the dashes in the final stanza. Also, I’m not sure your final line has enough gritty punch.

      1. No it’s good, thank you. It’s good to get feedback – as I said, I’m not very experienced with poetry.

      2. I thought this was very descriptive, with good imagery. My issue with it – and this is purely personal preference – is that it’s purely a description of a place but does not seem to summon up a particular feeling. It almost does – the first few stanzas suggest neglect and decay, but this theme seems to fade in the last couple, especially with the vivid colours of the washing on the line.

I guess it depends what you’re going for: a purely objective piece or a mood piece? I’m guessing the former.

      1. Yeah I love Sylvia Plath! Thank you for your feedback. Do you mean the third line of each stanza? I think it is my style to be a little terse; some people have ‘word diarrhea’ but I think I definitely have the opposite problem!

  11. Hello, this is more towards the writers in the community. I’ve recently posted some advice regarding Streams Of Consciousness, which is a popular way of preparing yourself properly for your writing. I’m also starting my own series of my own SoC’s called ‘Spark the Kindling’ if you’re interested.
Thank you very much, and take care 🙂

    1. Really enjoy your posts especially your images – beautiful shots!! I like the design of the header but I think if you add an image (maybe a photo you took?) would bring you blog out. Also, adding widgets may help readers navigate through your site as well as an about page just to give the readers a quick idea of what your blog is about! Great work though!! Cheers 🙂
