Community Pool

The place for feedback, blogging advice, and friendly chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Did you just start blogging and you’re not sure how to get going? Has your blog been dormant for a while but you’d like to give it a jolt of life? Join our free Blogging 101 course (or any of our other offerings at Blogging U.).

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. Do you have any other social media accounts? Everything I post, I then spend about half an hour posting links to on all the facebook groups I belong to (that are pertinent for the topic) and on all the linkedin groups I belong to (also as long as they are pertinent). And I have my fb page linked to my twitter. Also, make sure to have a call to action at the bottom of each post–mine says, “Enjoyed this post? Sign up for more” kind of thing. It is amazing what a difference it makes. I also just started putting in my own related posts thing at the bottomof the post–I didn’t like the automatic one because it didn’t link the ones I thought were the best matches because it is just looking for common words and phrases. We’ll see if that helps.

    2. What an inspiring blog – you definitely deserve that traffic! I don’t know how to solve the traffic problem since I’m a little stuck too, but you did gain a new follower for what it’s worth 🙂

    1. Love the post – super interesting read and I could totally relate (esp that entire “shoot, I’ll be a stripper” period! I like how you had an explanation for why humans naturally procrastinate and what really got me was that there are real studies and graphs done on human procrastination. Can’t wait for part 2!

    2. To perhaps give insight to the below comments: The url connected to your name does lead to an empty page, so be sure to change that. However, by copying and pasting the site you have above, it does work and take me to your blog. I love the background colour, by the way!

    3. Your user name automatically becomes a link to your primary blog when you leave a comment on WordPress.com. It seems like your current primary blog is an empty one — but you can easily change it by going to this section of your dashboard:
      https://wordpress.com/me/account

Just select the right site from the “Primary Site” dropdown menu, save your preferences, and you’ll be all set.

      1. Thank you so much John. I appreciate your encouragement and the complimentary words re my blog theme, layout and my writing style. May I ask you a favour? – would you be so kind as to copy/paste your comment here at the Community Pool into my site (perhaps at the About page)? This would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in anticipation! 🙂

    1. Welcome to the blogosphere! To get comments you must leave comments and build a readership. It takes time and passion, but it’s fun!
In terms of your blog, be sure to make an About page and make it easy to find, so new people can learn what’s up.
      Happy blogging!

  4. I am blogging my memoir about adopting two girls through foster care. My dream is to get it published the traditional route. Unfortunately, I haven’t been getting much traffic. I’d love feedback on my posts and any information to help build a larger audience. Thank you!! http://lynnsollitto.wordpress.com

    1. Hi Jake,
The layout is pretty cool. I’m actually a hug LOTR fan and so I like the font style haha. Your header is comical as well. Your blog is very inviting and definitely piques my interest. Your riddles were great too. Although I suck at solving them haha. Anyways, great job. Keep up the great work and I wish you the best of luck!
