Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hi everyone! I was slightly early posting it this year, but my newest blog is my 2 year blogging anniversary post! I’m thrilled that I was able to write about a song I had wanted to in my very first post two years ago, but which I felt would not have worked as an introduction. Two years later I figured it out, and I consider it to be among my best work. Have a look right here. Comments and shares always appreciated!

  2. I recently did a new interview on my website with Charmaine Taylor who created the jewelry collection “Legacy Collection” that uses original fencing from “Robben Island Prison” where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, it’s turly an inspiring story and background to the collection and the jewelry is gorgeous! I’d love to get some commenting going over on the actual post (not here please) and get the word out more about this beautiful project.

Again please comment on the actual post on my site and not here. Any and all feedback on my blog in general is also appreciated!

    1. Wow, I’m impressed by the content (on both) not to mention how you have time to balance them – it’s hard enough having one blog! You’ve gained a new follower for both sides of your personality 🙂

    1. Hi Grace,
I loved your blog! Your layout is very cute and clean haha. I enjoyed reading your most recent post. Even though I am a guy, I actually intentionally choose my hair products (I know it’s weird). Definitely enjoyed your blog 🙂 Especially your About page because you mention that you are a Christian and as a fellow Christian, I’m going to give you a follow 🙂 Cheers!

    1. Hello there. Welcome to the family. Here are quick tips that might help you:
      1) Use tags to reach out preferred audience. (Don’t use more than 15 tags)
      2) Follow and comment on blogs of your interest.
      3) Be regular with your posts.
      4) Write from heart and read more to get inspired.
      5) Customize your theme and add more widgets to it

    2. Hi Kate,
Great first post. I can see more amazing posts to come 🙂 The only thing I’d suggest though is if you updated your About page. That way viewers can better understand your blog and they can connect with you more personally. Perhaps you could even explain to your audience what you mean by “iamafirefly” header title. I wish you the best of luck!

    3. Good start! Don’t forget to edit your About page! Your writing is good, but once you start writing longer posts, don’t be afraid to add some pictures to make the reading more enjoyable.
      Happy Blogging!

  4. Hello all. I’m glad to be able to participate in this thread. My name is Wes and I keep a blog called Green Bean Conspiracy that started as a way to keep me motivated to lose weight and turned into a blog that I write about anything and everything. I still include my weekly Sunday recap about my weight loss progress. I’d love new readers and feedback.

I’d specifically like some comments on the the length of the content. I like to be detailed so I may tend to write something longer than is interested. What do you think would be a good length for blog post? I think that if it gets too long then people will stop reading but if it is too short it lacks the details to be interesting.

    Thanks for your feedback.

    1. Hello Wes,
I thoroughly enjoyed your blog. Loved the content and all the visuals. Definitely had fun navigating through everything. Keep it up!

As for the length, honestly, write as much as you feel. At the end of the day, this blog is about you and for you. If you do want to accommodate to your viewers, perhaps you can give yourself a limit of words per post and try to intentionally put in all the interesting details within that limited number. That’s just a suggestion though. I wish you the best of luck, my friend!

      1. Thanks John. That sounds like a great challenge. I appreciate the comments on how this is a blog for me so keep it how I like it. I hope you continue to read. I took a look at your blog and I thought the pictures were amazing. I’m looking forward to catching up on past postings and reading future posts. Thanks again.

    1. Wow I’m genuinely impressed. You guys have only been blogging for a very short amount of time and have already developed an audience and a great looking blog. I love your header image as well. It’s such a “wanderlust” feel. Traveling is one of my joys and I’m glad to see many other people who share that same passion. I can’t find any feedback to give to be honest haha. I wish you two girls the best of luck 🙂 Safe travels!

      1. Hey Thanks a lot 🙂 Actually, I was feeling bored from this theme as I have been using it from past 2 months now. But your comment makes me feel that I must keep it for sometime! Thanks and God bless!

    1. I think your texts are overwhelmed by the large photos and other material on the page. I assume your poems are the primary point of your blog, so I think they should have greater visibility. A theme like Penscratch could do that for you, but I suspect your current theme would be OK if you make some changes.

I loved it! I’m a huge fan of LOTR and this post was just awesome! The contents and your description is great as well. Great piece of work, my friend. Keep doing what you’re doing! A feedback on my own blog would be awesome too. I’d really appreciate any tips or advice 🙂 Thanks in advance!

    1. Looks great. All your pictures are taken well. You have a great eye, my friend 🙂 Traveling/photography is a great combination and it’s awesome to see people who share that passion. I urge you to keep doing what you’re doing.
But just a thought: Have you ever considered buying a more professional theme? A theme that’s more catered towards photography? That way you can really bring out the photography quality of your blog. But either way, I wish you the best of luck! Cheers!

      1. You’re welcome! Well it depends on whether you’re specifically looking for free or premium themes. I don’t have specific ones that I like but I know there are themes out there catered for photographers. For example, the one I’m using now is called the Photographer theme. I personally like mine because it’s clean and gives off a minimalistic presentation which is great for me to focus on pictures. But I think it’s up to you.

  7. Hi! I’m Elisabeth, a first year student at the University of Richmond in VA. I just started my blog a couple of weeks ago, and therefore I haven’t made too many posts. I am still trying to figure out what mix of serious lengthy posts and short entertainment posts would be the most successful. I am open to all advice as I am completely new to this! Please check out my blog and even follow if you’d like!

    1. Hi Elizabeth,
I enjoyed reading and looking through your blog. You seem like a very awesome person! I really like reading through your bucket list category. I couldn’t help but smile reading through your list because you made some “hard to cross off” items haha. Which isn’t a bad thing! It just shows how adventurous and bold you’re willing to be. A quality that isn’t shared by many unfortunately. I wish you all the best of luck and I hope you can cross off every single one of those!

    2. Like John, I really like the bucket list category. I wonder what it would be like if everyone had their bucket list available to read? You can learn a lot about someone just based off what they have there. Make sure to take advantage of every opportunity available to you while at college. It goes way to fast.

  8. Hey! Anybody familiar with how to deal with thumbnail posts? The image at times gets cut off from the top, after I publish the post…how do I fix this? A big thank you in advance for your help! 🙂

      1. Thanks but I think I got it! 🙂 Apparently when you publish a post, the main picture that appears with the post appears cut off to me, but fine to the viewers… Will just have to work with it a bit more to really get the hang of it! Thanks again!

      1. Thank you for your kind words! I would love to collaborate ! I’m currently working on pieces that help non-victims understand how they can help victims and make a difference with simple actions. Would you have anything you’d like to contribute to that topic? I hope our collaborations are on-going! I could use all the help I can get with addressing topics and bringing issues to light.

      2. YES! For example, I also grew up in an abusive household but grew to overcome the stigma that I was bound for the same lifestyle. There is a lot of controversy that children of abuse cannot escape abuse but that is not true. Here is my email (taviacarpenter@yahooo.com) so we can continue dialogue and I can begin drafting articles!

    1. I love the theme of your creative blog – it looks great! You most recent post seems like a great idea – setting a schedule for myself has made me much more likely to reach my goals so hopefully it works for you too!

      1. Thank you Jessica. (Unknowingly to most because i still look like a teenager) I am a mother of three toddlers so scheduling came easily. I recommend dedicated a full day to each task and holding off publishing it all at once. Instead, i try to publish something every other day which is super easy thanks to the WordPress app scheduling option in the post settings. Take advantage of that for sure!

    1. Hi Hammad,
I loved looking through the category! Your pictures are great and loved your content. I found your blog easy to navigate because of the fact that you have categories that branch off to even more categories. I think you’re doing great! I wish you the best of luck 🙂
