Writing 201: Poetry takes flight Monday — you’ve got a few days left to register.
Registration for October courses is now closed. See what’s coming up in November!
Do you dabble in verse? Would you like to start? Writing 201: Poetry is a two-week course that lets anyone practice the poet’s craft with a supportive community of like-minded bloggers — learn more about its structure and topics!
This session runs from Monday, October 5, through Friday, October 16, and has been updated since we last offered it, so folks who joined us last time can find fresh inspiration.
That sneaky feeling of something missing (iambs and dactylic dances – what do they mean?!) has almost gone and I feel energized to take up poetry writing more seriously.

How do Blogging U. courses work?
Blogging U. courses exist for one reason: to help you meet your own blogging and writing goals.
- Courses are free, flexible, and open to all.
- You’ll get a tasks or writing prompts to respond to each weekday at midnight GMT, along with our best advice and favorite resources. Do them on your own time, and interpret them however makes sense for your specific blog and personal goals — we’re not grading you, we’re not checking to make sure you complete every task, and there’s no “wrong” way to use the resources we give you. Weekends are free!
- Each course has a private community site, the Commons, for chatting, connecting, and seeking feedback and support. Daily Post staff and Happiness Engineers will be on hand to answer your questions and offer guidance and resources.

Normally not much of a poetry person. But I feel compelled to give it a try. I’m so behind on Writing 101. I feel like this will be my penitence. Or it could be really cool too so there’s that. Thank you!

More a companion that a sequel — it’s the same format, and covers many of the same topics, but in a different way.

I hate poetry, especially when it “takes flight.” It’s for the birds!

Okay, I’ll try to catch the sign-up deadline, the craft show season has been keeping me too busy to take it sooner, and I really need help on how-to post where as well as actually writing. Thanks for responding.

Hi Michelle!
Just finished Post 20 for Writing101, and it’s been great.
Looking forward to Writing 201: Poetry!
I love poetry, and have written many poems, but haven’t done much with some of the more technical aspects of poetry (apart from assonance, consonance, alliteration, figurative language, that is). I haven’t written a sonnet, or a limerick, for example. I look forward to this aspect — the aspect of form and structure, which, while I know it intellectually, I’m not disciplined enough to try on my own.
I look forward to learning all this, and more.
Thanks for all you and the rest of the WordPress Blogging Univ. Team do!
Cheers!

Been writing most of my life, but feel like I am just barely starting to grow as a poet. This sounds like something I might use to learn a great deal.
