Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?
Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).
To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:
TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
- While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
- The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
- If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
- We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
- Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
- If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
- No running on the deck.

Greetings pool-swimmers.
I have turned film critic for my post today, although the film is rather old, and my review is rather short and somewhat biased, I hope it still makes entertaining reading?

There seems to be a fashion for writing enormously fat novels these days, and the virtue of being concise seems to have been forgotten. I thought your Gone with the Wind review said all it needed to. Well done!

Cheers! I’m Leisel from Skill Up Skillet, a weekly updated geek and game themed food blog that reads like anything but a food blog. I strive for outstanding, inspired recipes, a twist of humor, and a healthy dose of sarcastic wit. The kitchen is my battleground and each recipe I conquer is a personal ‘skill up’ for me. Right now I’m pretty happy with the direction my blog has taken and I’m striving to gain more followers. Like, exponentially more followers. Yes, you, I’m talking to you!
That said, what’s the best way you’ve found to gain and engage your followers? I feel like I’m right on the threshold of something amazing and I want to take it to its limit and beyond.
Finally, I’d be immensely appreciative if I could get some more eyes and feedback for the following articles:
Chaliapin Steak (Shokugeki no Soma)- The sauce is so good you can even vegetarianize it. Yes, ‘vegetarianize’ is a word now: https://skillupskillet.wordpress.com/2015/07/09/shokugeki-no-soma-my-bastardized-yet-addictive-version-of-chaliapin-steak/
Omelette du Fromage (Dexter’s Laboratory) – Omelettes are one of my specialties and I was thrilled to make this. Also, if you’d like to see a comically vicious review on some weird French cheese, this post is for you: https://skillupskillet.wordpress.com/2015/07/16/omelette-du-fromage-a-dexters-laboratory-recipe/
I feel like these two are some quality posts but didn’t attract many views because a. Shokugeki no Soma (Food Wars) is a relatively new manga/anime and has a sort of underground following and b. I feel the reference from Dexter’s Laboratory is a little obscure for some.
As of right now I’m currently two recipes ahead and can’t wait to see what kind of reactions I get in the next couple weeks. Can’t wait to interact with you all; Community Pool is the only thing that makes me look forward to Mondays. Cheers! (And hi anyone from Blogging 201!)

I’ve said it before but I’ll happily say it again, just love the originality of your blog, I’ve not seen anything like it, and I could definitely have done with it when I was a six year old Nintendo fanatic.

This immediately prompted a fit of cursing at my computer screen: I have a posting schedule. It’s filled in through the second week of September. I’m doing great and actually planning things. AND I HAVE BEEN TOTALLY TAKING EVERYTHING AFTER THIS WEEK OUT OF BLOODY ORDER. Related: There’s going to be YET ANOTHER Mario post (as if 3 is too many, lol) by the end of August.
Now I have to redo the Excel spreadsheet all. over. again. For the nth time. It is so Monday.

Howdy amigos,
The next post I’ll write is a detailed photo journal of my six months in South America, but it feels unusual to be writing about something this broad instead of an individual event or week. I’m hoping that you can read one of the two posts below and offer feedback, as these are the most similar to what I’ll be posting tomorrow.

I overhauled the entire blog. By overhaul, I mean exporting the posts and everything and deleting all the posts.
I noticed that I hurry to make a blog post so that people would come and read my blog, only to feel that I didn’t do a good enough job. I decided to keep the well-written recent posts and start over.

I feel the same way, i have been writing since a year and half now and i hardly have viewers. But deleting a post isn’t the solution, you can’t delete something that you wanted to say. You did a good enough job, if you don’t feel like you did a good job then edit and proofread. Improve.
My advice, it is purely subjective. Good Luck!

I upgraded because there is an old theme that I always liked but hated the colors. I like the readability of the theme, but, to me, the primary colors took that away.
I think customization worth checking out.
Instead of customizing, you could try to find a premium theme that you could live with. Unfortunately for me, I couldn’t find a premium theme that I liked enough to keep.

Once the city decided to blow up a bridge about two miles from my house (planned). I still heard it and felt the shockwave. And that was the last of my sleep. I screamed down the house, as you should too. They’ll not hear the end of it.

Hello!
I helped organise a live teenage diary reading night last week and I’ve got some videos and audio of me reading out diary entries.
Seeing as my blog is my genuine teenage diary entries from the 90s, I’m thinking of uploading the video and/or audio. I’ve already got one video on there from a previous event but that’s just on my sidebar.
I was wondering, do you think it’s worth creating a new page for things like that or just embed it in a post? I just don’t want to end up with too many pages and it getting overcrowded.
Any other ideas welcome!
Tess

Oh, that is a hard decision. The only thing I’d be concerned about if you embed videos/audio files in your posts is the possibility for slowing some people’s computers down. My vote’s for a dedicated page, I think.

Maybe you can come up with a youtube account and upload your videos there and when you want to embed it in your site, you can just copy the link in your blog. 🙂

Hi there, Rajat here. I am a travel blogger and share my travel experiences across India. Its been quiet a while that I have started to write but simply unable to understand what annoys my readers the most.
I get (jealous) and frustrated (that’s obvious, I am human afterall )often when I find that no more than 10 people, sometimes, none come to my blog, as if I am talking to dead people, but what frustrates me more that when I read through the huge crowd of other bloggers from my niche,
I do not find anything less that I have written that makes me unapproachable. I have tried commenting, liking, reading others posts but it seems nothing is working out.
I have been struggling way too far, heading for a writers block. If only someone can guide me and honestly tell me, what is the damn problem with my blog!!!

I am not really sure how to directly answer your question about writing off-topic posts but what I do know is that some travel bloggers are also joining the blog events. Several things:
– Have you tried enrolling the free course of Blogging 101? because you will meet a lot of bloggers as you go through the course which are potential readers. 🙂
– Have you established your social media presence? (Twitter/FB/IG)

To answer the second question, Yes,
to answer the first one, I did, but was not able to complete the course due to extensive travel. I added those trips to my blog!!

I see. No problem, dear 😀 I am happy to help. hmm I think maybe you need to work on your tags (https://wordpress.com/support/posts/tags/) Also, try to have a pinterest account, it helps too!

Patience is the key.
If you write in a niche category it will take a while to be noticed and build followers, but it is a slow process. Reconsider how you use tags and categories as these are how your posts will be sorted and displayed to others. For the same reason, look closely at your excerpts and how your main photos are framed, as these are what people will see when deciding whether or not to read your post.
Of course interesting content is the most important part of your writing, those are just some tips for being noticed and making a first impression.
Good luck!

Best thing to do is participate in forums and comment things like this one and contribute meaningful comments and critiques for other bloggers.
for others to be interested in you, you must often first be interested in them.
The first step is to make great content, which you have done. The second thing is to be involved in the blogging community.

You have a decent start but it’s a little hard to wade through. Have you considered adding more (relevant) pictures to your posts? And do you have a ‘formal’ About page?
The blogging courses are free. As I didn’t take Blogging 101 I can’t really comment on that, I’m in Blogging 201. I say, if you want to do it again, why not?
(Hail, fellow gamer!)

Thank you for the comment.
Is it a little hard to wade through my blog? Is it because there aren’t any pictures in my blog? Maybe, I should add more pictures when I write a new post.
I don’t have an about page, but I have written some info about my blog in the text widget “Un po’ di info sul mio blog”.
I have some other questions:
What is the difference between 101 and 201? What mean this numbers?
LikeLike
Yes, and yes. Pictures and (sometimes) shorter paragraphs help break posts up better. I read/translated the widget but I think your readers would like to know a little more about you.
101 is the basic blogging course for beginners. It helps you build and develop your site and whatnot. 201 is for growing your brand and building your audience.

Hi everyone! I just enrolled for blogging 101 recently and started posting actively. My blog still need more posts to shape into what I envisioned. I write mainly about book reviews, events, product reviews, food, some writings and thoughts.
Let me know what you think of my recent posts, any feedback is truly appreciated!

Hi Arianna, thank you for your comments! I thought maybe an option for a collage of pictures would really show off your photos! I think Snaps is pretty cool. I guess my comments really speak to your photography being the focus – the pictures of your fashion drawing your eye to it.

I really like your blog’s appearance! You certainly give a lot to look at and read up about, but at the same time it looks very clean. I only found 1 typo. In the About drop down menu, it says Thr Ethical Definition instead of The Ethical Definition. I also thought your Thank You page was very nice. 🙂

Agh I need to put periods in there… everyone thinks that’s a typo but it’s actually meant to stand for The Honest Root (T.H.R)

Personally I like the links to the places you’ve been, it gives me confidence that you know what you’re talking about! You could perhaps include a little anecdote from one of your trips to start off with, it might help draw readers in to your ‘about me’.

I am a former WordPress blogger who has switched to Blogger. I just set the blog up today, so there’s not a lot to critique, but I would appreciate some input. I’m not a big layout person, I tend to focus on content. Since there isn’t much content now, I would love some feedback on layout improvements.
Thank you!

I’m not sure yet:) After two years, I knew how to use WordPress. I’ve only been on Blogger one day, so I don’t exactly know what I’m doing yet:)
What prompted my decision? Maybe just the desire to try something new.

Your blog posts are well done, and your format is easy to maneuver. The only thing I would recommend is a more brief explanation of who you are and what you are doing on the site itself instead of just within blog posts.

Hi everyone. Around 6 months ago I changed the format of my blog from what was simply a link to my instagram account previously, to a place where I now upload more thought out/detailed posts of my film photography.
I have found that the followers I gained in the previous format do not seem to engage with this new format (no longer commenting or liking, and with much lower view counts) so I wanted to see if anyone here shared my interests?
I would appreciate any feedback on my posts (actually on the posts would be great) whether it its something about the photos you liked or some constructive criticism and I would love to interact with people who are interested in photography/film photography; perhaps I would enjoy your work too! Or any advice on the blog in general, including how to make it more engaging would be much appreciated as a comment to this post.
My blog is https://anotherlifeinlondon.wordpress.com/ thanks in advance!

Take a Blogging 101 course, it’s a great way to meet others and share your passion:)
I host weekly a quote and a photo challenge, have a look, join us if you want:)

Thank you so much! I just wish there were more opportunities close to where I live for mental health advocacy. Most programs are two hours away from me. I do, however, plan on moving closer to those opportunities when finances allow.
I’m glad you liked the questions! I was so nervous that I was going to ask dumb questions and completely fail at the interview, but I was able to pull through with some good ones in the end. 🙂

Hello! Welcome to wordpress! 🙂 I will warn you, blogging is a terrible addiction. You will find yourself up late into the night typing out your thoughts long after everyone else has turned the lights out…..or perhaps you shall be a reasonable blogger and only write as you feel so inclined. Either way, the experience is enjoyable to say the least.
