New blogger looking for guidance? Budding photographer wanting to learn more? Welcome to Blogging U.
Blogging 101 and Photography 101 both return in June! We’re looking forward to working with a new group of bloggers and shutterbugs.
Blogging 101: Zero to Hero — June 8 – 26
Blogging 101 is three weeks of bite-size blogging assignments that take you from “Blog?” to “Blog!” Every weekday, you’ll get a new assignment to help you publish a post, customize your blog, or engage with the community. Whether you’re just getting started or want to revive a dormant blog, we’ll help you build the blogging habits and connections that will keep you going over the long haul.
You’ll walk away with a stronger focus for your blog, several published posts and a handful of drafts, a theme that reflects your personality, a small (but growing!) audience, a grasp of blogging etiquette — and a bunch of new friends.
Photography 101: A Photo a Day — June 8 – July 3
Photography 101 is a photo-a-day challenge. You’ll publish new posts, make new friends, and hone your photographer’s eye. Each weekday, we’ll give you a new photography theme and tip — we might share advice on composition, tips on working with different light sources, or image editing ideas — and the community critique will inspire you and motivate you.
This four-week, intro-level course open to all, from new bloggers to hobbyist photographers to pro shooters. Use any camera: phone, point-and-shoot, dSLR.
How do Blogging U. courses work?
If you’re looking for other courses, Blogging 201: Branding and Growth with return in July, and 201-level writing courses will be back after that, along with intermediate-level blog design courses.
Blogging U. courses exist for one reason: to help you meet your own blogging and photography goals.
- Courses are free, flexible, and open to all.
- You’ll get a new task to complete each day, along with our best advice and favorite resources. Do them on your own time, and interpret them however makes sense for your specific blog and personal goals — we’re not grading you, we’re not checking to make sure you complete every task, and there’s no “wrong” way to use the resources we give you.
- You’ll receive each assignment via email. Each assignment will contain all the inspiration and instructions you need to complete it. Weekends are free.
- Each course will have a private community site, the Commons, for chatting, connecting, and seeking feedback and support. Daily Post staff and Happiness Engineers will be on hand to answer your questions and offer guidance and resources. We’re also excited that for the first time, Blogging 101 will have Community TAs — bloggers who have already taken the course, and are there to give you even more support and keep the conversation flowing.

Hello! I registered for Photo 101 and it tells me I registered for Blogging 101. Is that an automated response? Help please.

There are no automated responses to the sign-up form, and you can sign up again if you think something went wrong or you accidentally checked the wrong button. And I can remove you from Blogging 101, no worries!

I didn’t check the wrong button. And I tried signing up again but got the same response relating to blogging 101. I don’t know what’s wrong.

No worries; I’ll make sure you’re registered in the right place, and we’ll look into what might have gone wonky here. Thanks for letting me know.

Definitely I’d like to take the Photography course but also interested in Blogging course. I wonder how hard to do the both since I am very new and slow writer …

Most of the Blogging 101 assignments aren’t actually focused on writing — only about a third of them are, and the rest are about helping you get your blog looking and working the way you want, and about connecting with the blogging community. So doing both doesn’t mean you’re doing two posts every day, and lots of folks do them at the same time.
That said, both are also going to be back several times throughout the year, so there’s no rush!

Sweet! I have been using the previous “Blogging 101” series to help build up my blog and audience, I think doing it as a group is a great way for us to make connections and meet people!

As I understand there will be Community TAs only for Blogging 101 and not for Photo101?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Correct; it’s a new program, so we’re starting with Blogging 101 to see how everything goes. Participants in Blogging 101 also typically need a little more support, so we thought it would be more helpful to have all hands on deck there. We do hope to expand the TA program to bring in more folks and offer more courses.

I finished this April ‘Writing 101’. It was really wonderful. I got to know things of the Blogging World and so many people in this world.
I am very eager to join the Blogging 101, will start doing some work-outs from now.
I encourage and suggest: “YOU JUST JOIN”, or should I put it this way:”YOU MUST JOIN”.

Started my blog in January and found the WordPress community to be just amazing supportive and blogging to be so much fun. Stepped away from it during some big life changes in April/May and just came back…realize that I want to freshen my skills and make my site better.
So happy to see you are offering 101 again. Thank you.

There’s a form right in the post. If you’re on a mobile device, look for a little link that says “take the survey.”

I started my blog a few years ago more for family and friends on our travels to Cosa Rica but found it hard to stay motivated. Looking forward to getting back into it. Have some interesting projects I’d like to play around with.
