The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging conversation.
Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?
Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).
To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:
TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
- While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
- The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once! We tend to delete duplicate comments asking for feedback on the same post.
- If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
- We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
- Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
- When leaving comments, please remember not to add your blog’s url as your signature. It’s kinda spammy: after all, your handle links directly to your blog.
- If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
- No running on the deck.

In regards to your blog, April, I like the combination of both serious and humorous posts. When championing bio-ethical behavior, it is tempting to become strident. This is hardly an effective way to help your cause. So nice job offering a cool and non-judgmental approach. 🙂

I liked your way to separate thrillers from psychological thrillers, I hadn’t thought of that before I read it and it was interesting. I like your style of writing, too. If your book is written in a similar way I think I might enjoy it (and I usually don’t enjoy horror/thriller that much). Great job, overall!

Hey Mark,
I’m a published author, so it always makes me happy to hear about others who are writing novels. I haven’t been on WordPress in a very long time (as evidenced by my lack of posts on my blog), due to some pretty nasty events in my personal life, but I plan on writing articles again very soon.
Keep charging forward with unwavering determination, and you will feel rewarded. The industry is incredibly tough, and it is very easy to get discouraged, but just keep on keepin’ on. If you need any help (whether it be ideas for content, editing, or writing style) don’t hesitate to ask. I am always ready to assist those who wish to express themselves. Inspiration is key! Not just for yourself, but it should also be your motivation to inspire others! That will be reflected in your work, and readers will become more involved. Have a good day, and I wish you luck in your endeavor!

Let me start off by saying I’m a trained English teacher, so when I’m asked for help, my inner editor goes to work. I saw on your blog you are a proud Filipino and I’m guessing Filipino is your first language and not English. I noticed some spelling and grammar errors in your blog that are common for people who learned English as a second language. You might ask someone to help you catch these errors. English is a HARD language, even for those who learned it from birth. I hope this helps you. 🙂

Hello! I’m blogging my 90s teenage diaries and I’m considering adding a bit more diary variety.
If someone asked you to share extracts of your own teenage ramblings, might you do it or does the thought fill you with ABSOLUTE HORROR?!
It could be completely anonymous or linked back to a blog depending on individual preference. I’ve had a little bit of interest already from ex teen diarists but I’m not sure if they’d do it in reality!
Also, I’ve recently added a ‘who’s who’ page following a suggestion on here a few weeks ago. If you find yourself popping over to IDST from here, do you think it needs more info or does it do the trick?
Ta!

Hi Tess
I’ve just been to visit your blog and it’s brilliant. I’m a child of the 1990s too (11 in 1995) and so much of it made me think of things I used to do. I kept diaries but not consistently and, regretfully, threw them all out about 11 years ago. I think the idea of having diary entries from others is a good idea, though if it was me I would definitely prefer to be annoymous. You could ask pepole to post entries from the same date to compare what everyone was doing that day, might throw up some interesting juxtopositions of the mundane and the important.
Looking forward to reading more. IDSTFEAETDDUP (the long version!)

Thanks for your lovely comment and feedback. I like the idea of comparing the same date. I just need more willing participants first!
I totally get why people would want to do it anonymously and I’d make sure that option was available. I was calling myself Mollie (nicked from the dog) originally but blog and reality began to collide and I felt all awkward about using a fake name!

Hi there! I really like this idea of yours. I was a child of the 1990s (born in 86) and ye gods, I’m afraid to see what I wrote as a teenager. It was probably awful. Some of your entries had me laughing so hard. Now I’m following you!

Yes. Menus. I tried in the past to add categories but it interferes with the look of my blog in general. For example if I put up sticky posts, the categories will nestle between the header images and the body of the posts giving the blog a very chaotic messy look. The categories put themselves where they don’t have to be. The words just end up everywhere in between. So I removed them. Thanks for the feedback. I will try to find a way to organize my contents without compromising the design of my blog.

I tried all of the free themes because I mostly drawn to modern and clean lines design but I found out that those don’t offer much room for creativity and don’t suit my kind of writings which is moody and often dark. So I settled for this theme. It powerfully balance readability with a powerful use of photography — all in a layout that works on any device because it is a responsive theme. Wow! Let me just say my mouth was watering the entire time I was reading this post lol. Your writing style is very laid-back and conversational, which made it a joy to read. I also love the pictures and maps you used to accompany the text. I felt like I was following you all over NY and Jersey. All of my junk food cravings have officially been satisfied! Thanks for the great read (:
If you have the time, stop by my blog and tell me what you think! Constructive criticism is welcome. (www.therealtanasiakenney.wordpress.com)

Hi guys,
Am totally new to this and would love some advice on how I can improve my blog site at http://www.eGospelTruth.com
Be blessed.

I have a couple of suggestions:
1. You might add an “About” page. I like to know a little something about the writer.
2. Posting the links to pages is a bit confusing. Why not just make the text a post, rather than a page?
Best wishes as you figure it all out.

I love that you’re making scripture public but I sort of expected a couple of sentences of commentary on your thoughts for the day. Retitling those posts might make it clearer – something like verse of the day or today’s scripture.

Thanks. Will certainly use that.
Be blessed.

Hey, I’ve recently stated blogging, like since yesterday, and I would love feedback on my first post! http://ryanwatchesfilms.wordpress.com/ . Every week I review Films and TV Shows, some new and some old. Please let me know what you think, I would really appreciate it!
Thanks,

I really liked your review of the new Mad Max movie and might even go see it now. I hadn’t planned on doing that because remakes usually annoy me, but you’ve convinced me that this is a good one.
The post feels a little long, not that it doesn’t have good content, but it might help to use bullets or bold type headlines to break up the paragraphs where you discuss different aspects of the film so it doesn’t look like one big slog of text.
Overall, you’re off to a great start!

Hello everyone. My one year blog anniversary is coming up soon. Do any of you have any fun ideas for a one year anniversary post? I was thinking of highlighting some of my most popular and favorite posts and some of the bloggers I follow who have been the most supportive and inspirational.
Thanks in advance for your ideas.

i published this the other day after being in close contact with homeless men for some weeks. They move me to pieces and I thought it was only fitting that I should grace their memory with a poem–I thought I’d done right by them! Sadly, not many have had access to my poem so I don’t know if it’s any good… I’d greatly appreciate your thoughts, critiques or questions! cheers! https://trimmedwords.wordpress.com/2015/05/01/homeless/

1st stanza, I thought it was fitting that you used a symphony of hunger and followed it up with a guitar and banjo. As much as that metaphor works, to me, a symphony has a positive (and upper class) connotation. Hunger is negative. Have you thought of another metaphor? Maybe others have a different opinion.
I think that the most important point that you are trying to get across is that homeless people’s whole person-hood is nonexistent. Although you don’t say it, I assume it’s through years of homelessness and hopelessness.
Have you though about spending time with homeless youth? They’re out there. It’s super sad why they are homeless and what they have to do to survive.

I hadn’t actually thought of it, thank you for that! I’ll keep it in mind as I revise it thoroughly.
Yes, that’s exactly what I was coming to, and exactly how I’ve understood people living in the streets feel (at least the ones I’ve met).

Hi J.I.
It looks like you’ve made a good start, keep working at it. It’s difficult to give feedback on poetry because it’s so personal. As the poet, you chose words and images that express what you were feeling. People like me look in and some of us are moved and some are not. I wasn’t moved but I’ve never been homeless. And I might have been distracted by wondering how a tear runs down the back of one’s neck.
I hope this helps in some small way.

I like your poem! It wasn’t boring. I found that it could mean a lot of things. It wasn’t obvious and it kept the reader guessing which is what I prefer when reading a poem. Great job! 🙂

After writing about grief for over a year, I have started writing about other things like bike rides, rain, gardens. Feedback is appreciated. Should I keep writing? About life? Or grief or both?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Yes! Keep writing! I only popped over briefly but I’ll be going back. Why not write about both? It doesn’t all have to be about grief even if that was your original purpose for starting a blog. It’s a subject that you can go back to whenever you feel you need or want to.
I’m sure a lot of people drawn to your blog are there because they’ve experienced grief themselves and it’s comforting to know (for me, at least) that over time, you are able to enjoy normal aspects of life again.

Thank you. It seems my articles on grief get more traffic/comments. I do want to show that though life will not ever be what it was before, we can still have peace and joy after loss.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Share both! I think possibly your article about grief resonates with readers that have lost someone they love but it is nice to see that after grieving you’re still able to lead a full life.

Your poem reminds me of a DailyPost or some other WP blog that shares tips and ideas, one of which took place in February or so and had content on poetry mainly with some kind of sound that repeats. You have obviously fulfilled that with you “I” sounds, so great job! There’s also a rhythm too, so greater job!

Hi everyone, do you struggle with the idea that your posts may sometimes become too personal, even revealing of you? I discuss this in a post I just published. Do let me know what you think!

I think what you should do what works for you. If writing is part of the pain, try spoken word or singing randomly to express yourself. You write that you write your thoughts/feelings about depression and anxiety and readers (who relate) who come will understand. I also understand that you want to protect yourself and your presence on the internet, so I suggest that if you can’t proofread your work yourself (because of subjectivity), then have someone else do it.

Hi, I just started my first blog focused on party and family event planning. http://www.theartinpartyplanning.com. I’m a total newbie – if anyone has some time and would like to look at my site and give me a few general call-outs, I would be forever grateful and supportive in any way that I can. My biggest questions are:
1) Is there anything totally obvious that I am missing?
2) Is it customary to have to click on your post to read the whole thing? I think now my whole posts just show on my homepage, but maybe that is because I only have 6 posts?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or feedback!

A very nice blog on a unique topic you have created. You can do the following to improve your blog:
1. Add the Read More button after you have written the post intro or the 1st para. It is up to you. This way viewers will see what the post is about in a quick glance.
2. Share your posts on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and to all other social sites as much as you can.
3. Write short posts also or break a lengthy one in parts
Happy Blogging!!
