Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging conversation.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hi all, I have recently made a WordPress website using twenty fifteen theme. It’s a humour site basically me winding up people from classified ads, I’m hoping for it to be a nice little humorous site, I was after some feedback of the general feel of the site

  2. Hi there! I’m having trouble with my blog, using the Sight theme, and I’m having issues with the sticky posts. Would be nice if you’d help me out.

I always select “sticky” to my latest post, and undo the previous sticky, yet it doesn’t change. I keep seeing Kiara’s image/post, instead of the most recent one. Kiara is no longer sticky, so I have no idea what the problem is. It bothers me so much!

Let me know how I can return the favor 🙂 🙂

    1. Hi Camille,

Looks like you’ve switched themes a few times since writing this comment. Currently there aren’t any sticky posts that I can see on your blog. The Charlize post is in the first spot, then Kayla. If you’re still having trouble, can you double check that you’re doing the following:

      1. Go to All Posts.
      2. Hover over the post title you’d like to make sticky.
      3. Click on Quick Edit.
      4. Check the box next to where it says “Make this post sticky” on the right hand side.
      5. Click on the Update button.

Let me know! Happy to help you troubleshoot.

      1. Krista, thank you so much! I changed themes to see whether that would help, and every other theme responds just fine to my sticky wishes 🙂 sorry if that made it very confusing for you, I def appreciate the help! And thank you, I’ll try the original theme again later tonight and see if your advice works. Thanks again! Xx

      2. Awesome, thanks Camille! Do let me know if Sight doesn’t play well when you set a post to “Sticky.” I tried to duplicate the issue on a test blog, but as you can see the Feb 27th “post” is in the number one spot and the Apr. 10th “post” is below it.

  3. I started my blog (http://wp.me/P36w0d-1) to promote my first book because that is what I was advised to do. Scary – I thought – Now I LOVE it! Of course my husband says there would be more free time in my day if I didn’t blog. True. Promoting my FB author page has been a much tougher row to hoe! Does anyone else have problems promoting FB? If you have any tips I’d love to hear them. There may be a $25 Amazon gift card in your future just for LIKING/SHARING the page. 4. Hey everyone. My name is Joe. I blog around issues or subjects that are about me as a person and how people can learn from that.

Pass me any comments you have about my blogs. I can’t say that I am that good at blogging so any feedback would be benefical. I have been writing blogs for quite a while now.

  7. @michelleweber two quick questions, 1) why does the blogging university badge disappear from my site ? 2) do we get a certificate of completion? I was in the last group sorry for the intrusion in the new group wasn’t sure how else to ask?

    Kind Regards, Kerry-Ann

    1. Hi Kerry-Ann,

I see the Blogging U badge on your site, so it looks like you’ve got that figured out. Double-checking with Michelle, there aren’t any certificates of completion for any of the courses in Blogging U.

  8. Good Afternoon All.

I’ve been out of the game a little while and have had all sorts of things going on. My husband and I have decided to adopt a child from Eastern Europe. This post goes into that a little and I am wondering if starting a second blog to document this journey is a good idea. Please take a look and offer any feedback about the post, adoption or whatever else you can.
    Thanks,
    Hope

  11. I’d like some advice on how to get some new readers for my parenting posts for teens and older kids. There seems to be a lot of interest in posts about cute toddlers and tiny babies, but the interest seems to drop off sharply as kids get older. Here’s one of my recent parenting posts that kind of cross-pollinates two of my favorite themes of parenting and organizing. http://adrianscrazylife.com/2015/03/how-does-clutter-affect-your-children.html Thanks! 12. Happy to know about Community Pool. After years of struggle of not knowing what to share, i finally found my passion in exploring the places off road. Putting up in the national capital of India, i have access to some spectacular cities, hill stations and forts around. Have recently started documenting my experiences and the challenges that i come across. I would be keen to learn from group members on the do’s and dont’s of reaching out to the right audience and the way you customised the blog outlook. Feedback is welcome.
