Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging conversation.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hello there! How’s life? 😉

It’s been a few weeks since my last post. My latest post is today and it’s about the simple way we could lighten our burden of choosing (more or less).

I am aiming to be able not only to write more substance (and backed with facts), but also to put some emotions into it.

It would be great to have your comment on it!

    Via Negativa

    Cheers!

    1. I share my wordpress blog with my Facebook. Only because my blog is directed towards me, as for who I am. I try not to talk about family (unless it’s my kids or husband and still keep it minimal) because I want my following to eventually want to read my book that I am working on. So my whole purpose is to gain a following. Honestly it’s about what kind of audience you are targeting.

    2. I have… and with mixed results. A lot of people don’t want to leave facebook and/or read anything longer than a paragraph that doesn’t feature celebrities. By posting on fscebook you’ll have a lot of your friends read it, though they often read just what you linked to and don’t return for more on future days.

Just my experience. Hopefully your family and friends are more interested than mine 😉

    1. A Momma’s View has helped me a lot as a follower and a beginner at blogging. I have learned a lot and recommend it, there’s something there for everyone including many opportunities to get involved 🙂

    1. Very detailed, good visuals, but I wondered why.
Other than one scripture, there wasn’t very much about why all of these steps are necessary. I’m a dork and that stuff fascinates me. 🙂

I liked the piece, especially from a cultural perspective. I really enjoyed the explanations of how you prepare.

      1. thanks for reading! I mainly just talk about the traditions and not so much the reasoning behind, I might add links for reading though 🙂 some ppl explain these things way better than I do 🙂

  2. Hello everyone! I have switched my theme because I wanted to concentrate more on photography rather than arts and crafts. I have managed to centre the images, but not sure how to get them larger on the actual blog site (instead of clicking on them separately) If anyone could help, I would appreciate it lots! https://retreeve45.wordpress.com/

  3. Hello bloggers!

So, I’m new to blogging and because I’m kind of testing waters right now, I mostly post poems which I write in my spare time. Posting and writing these poems have made me realise that I don’t want to do all of this just during my spare time and that I should take a step further and get people to actually read them. So, it would be lovely if you all could check out my blog.

The most recent poem is a spoken word (not exactly spoken out loud) about a person expressing their love for another person and one of my other poems is about the Greek Myth related to the constellation of Orion.

It would be brilliant if I could get some feedback on these two particular poems (or any other poem) because I really, really, really want to improve on this hobby.

    Most recent poem: https://anerdyutopia.wordpress.com/2015/04/05/a-song-to-my-companion/

    1. While editing your post, click on the picture and take your mouse to it’s corner. The cursor or the arrow will turn into an expanding side arrow thingy which you can drag to enlargen your pic. I hope that help! 🙂

  5. Hi all, I’ve been traveling for around nine months and sharing stories of the weirdness I’ve found. I have one piece that I’ll link below where I’m not sure if it’s a good story or if I come off condescending towards other cultures.

Please read and let me know what you think about the story and style, I have similar pieces that I’m currently working on and I’m not sure exactly how to go about it.

  6. Hello everyone! I deviated from my culture of publishing only short stories and poem today. I wrote something I genuinely feel is true and asked a question at the end of my post.

Opinions on how well that went and answers to my question would be much appreciated. Should I do that more often or stick to what I normally write? Here:

    Would you?

I’ll be glad to look over any specific post you need an opinion on 🙂 Have great week!

    1. Hi Chantel, I just looked through your blog and I really like the appearance and content so far. I love the header image and your writing flows easily. I know that you only have a few posts at this point, but eventually you may want to add a category widget to make it easier to navigate.

You have an ambitious travel itinerary and many of the places are on my own list of future destinations, so I’m going to follow you to see how your adventures go. Good luck!

  7. I have a culinary blog, written from the perspective/rating of my toddler daughter. The idea is for parents to know which fun, local spots are kid-friendly. Having children won’t eliminate you from the restaurant scene 🙂

Any and all feedback is welcome – thanks!

  8. Hi everyone! I started a travel photo blog last year, but I’ve only gotten around to posting fairly regularly recently. Have you guys found an optimal time for posting your blog entries to give them a better chance of being read by your audience, and if so, what is it?

I’d also appreciate it if you could drop by my blog and give me a quick heads up about what you think. I’m at https://lakadditolakaddoon.wordpress.com/.

Thanks a lot, and looking forward to hearing from you. 🙂

    1. Hi! I am also posting irregularly and noticing a decline in my viewers! I read that posting at least twice a week is the best, but I know how hard that is to do! How about once a week? Is that stretching it as well, too?

    2. I post four times a week but it is a variety of things. Two are fresh posts, one is an archived post, one might be a re-blog, one might be a fiction chapter from my book. You might check out my widget on the side of my blog…I have my schedule right there.

  9. Thank you for taking a look at my blog! I haven’t really met any bloggers or done any networking mostly because I’m not sure how to start doing that. I do have a Pinterest board, but it is linked to my etsy site not my blog.
