Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Image feedback. Recently I have been too bogged down to take inspired, successful photos for every post so I have created my own quote with a design for one or two posts. Is it better to use created images or go without? My blog is http://www.intentergy.com Thank for taking time to check it out!

    1. I had the same thoughts a while ago when I started blogging regularly (pretty much every day). I wanted to use original images and photos but it’s not always practical so I’ve resorted to stock images.

The images you use aren’t that large anyway and you wrote one post without one (April Showers) which I don’t think suffered through a lack of images. My theme really requires them whereas I don’t think yours does.

That said, people find images stimulating and interesting so if you have them, I would use them, whatever they are.

    1. Hey – great post, well constructed, well written, interesting quotes which shows you’ve put a bit of thought in to it. That’s not constructive criticism I know, but hopefully some constructive encouragement!

    2. That’s a nice first post. I especially like your point about the “agility to learn.” I did see a couple of editing opportunities. You have “acts Elixir” where I think you mean “acts as an Elixir.” When you say, “chid your parents” are you meaning scold them? If not, you might want to use a different word. Your overall site is visually pleasing. It would be nice to add an About page that tells us the purpose of your blog. http://gracelead.co

    1. Your post on Longing is engaging and well-written. I noticed that you added several posts on April 5. I’m guessing you write in spurts as I do. When you find that you have written several posts, you could schedule them several days apart. I write several, then schedule them to post one a week. Another thing to consider is making your Home page be your latest posts and making your Welcome page a selection on your Menu. http://gracelead.co

    2. Hi, I checked out your blog, I know I am not talking about writing , I am new (so not much experience here) , I just wanted to say, you could either put categories on your homepage or latest posts.
Also the theme seems a little too minimalist (to me),
I’m sorry if I couldnt be of much help1

  5. Hey guys I just started blogging about my experience of being accepted into the Peace Corps and the hoops I’m jumping through to leave for Macedonia in September. I’ve never really blogged before so not sure if what I’m writing is interesting to other people or just myself. Also, I’m not sure about my layout because you have to click the menu button in the top right corner to see my pages. So any constructive criticism is welcome.

    1. Don’t worry about having to click on the Menu button. I think your layout works for what you are doing. Regarding your content, I enjoyed your Becoming a Minimalist post. You told your story well and in a way that let your personality shine through. BTW, that’s a nice elephant lamp 🙂 http://gracelead.co

    1. using a sentence such as “I have found” or “in my experience” doesn’t sound at all like a “know-it-all”. I didn’t think your post came across as negative or condescending at all.

  8. Hi All,

It is great to see the community pool. Glad to look at how this is helping a lot of writers.

For the longest time, I had tried to put all my ideas together but in a book form. It seemed impossible to start and consolidate my thoughts and complete a book. After many false starts, I gave up.

The blog format seems to help getting them out there one piece at a time. I feel that with each blog post, I am accumulating visible material that I can later consolidate and put together as a book.

I have a few posts on various topics. I would like you all to please visit my blog and let me have your feedback.

  9. Ever been in a situation where when you post a blog the people over you do not appreciate you. Worse they tell you that what you write makes no sense. I think blogging takes guts because you actually tell people whats going on in your mind. What would you say to these people who dont have thoes guts but get pleasure in giving you a bad feedback ???????????

    1. ignore them. they are quite obviously jealous and pea-green with envy over your posts. Just smile at them and say nothing. It will drive them crazy.

  11. Hello, i new to blogging as well and have a specific question regarding the media gallery. If you delete pictures there, does it delete from your original post as well? Also, i struggle a bit with grammatical errors even after proof reading after breaks and reproaching with fresh eyes. Is there an editing community i can join? any tips or feedback on improving would greatly be appreciated.
