Community Pool

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. That was a very sweet post 🙂 I just commented on it! My suggestion: your grammar is off in a few places. You had a couple run-on sentences. While this may sound nitpicky, good grammar will impress your readers! And you’ve got such nice content here 🙂

  5. Looking for thoughts on my “about me” section. My goal was to keep it relatively simple, but I want to make sure that it adequately represents what my blog is about. Do you find my “about me” boring? Should I add more to it? Or do you think it works?

    2. I like it. It’s short but sweet: it introduces you without being needlessly wordy and it covers what the blog will be about. If you’re worried, consider removing one of the random facts about you. But I think you’re good 🙂

    3. I think a photo or infographic goes a long way. It helps the reader know who they are “talking to”. Overall, I do like the narrative you have included!

However, I do such a thing like that differently; I hear a classic oldies song in my head, and then draw something that is based on it! Now, I would like for you to take one of my advice: If you start to run out of ideas, then just take a break once in a while-That way, your creative batteries will be restored!     3. Gorgeous photos! 🙂 I think the photos of the water were the most stunning. Might be a good idea to add more words to break up some of the photos — you have a lot in a row in some places! That said, I liked looking at them.

    1. I like that your blog is very easily laid out- not too busy and very appealing to the eye. I scrolled through your older posts and I like that you cover different topics- its hard to blog about the same thing. I don’t have a little one yet but would find this very helpful if I did.

    1. I love the line about pulling your hair away from your face — everyone who has cut their hair short can relate to that 🙂 Love it! I also like your combination of words and images. Posts with images always do better than those without, it seems.

    1. Hey, I stopped by your blog:) I loved the post: Am I crazy?! It was really funny! You write with a personal voice, and that works well for you. I’d like to see more pictures on your blog though, even if they’re only there to create an atmosphere. For example in your latest post, why not include a picture of the sky or some of the other beauty you observe?:)

I can’t get that squirrel to hold still long enough for a photo (it’s a mission now) but yes, I should add more photos. Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!       2. Probably because one can’t think of everything! That’s a great idea! A herd of deer live near my home, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone out to try to photograph them! I made it in the end, so keep trying with that squirrel;) I will! If you have any feedback for me, that would be appreciated too:)

    2. LOVE that dresser! so simple yet it really really works! I love to refurbish furniture too…have created some nice pieces but the majority of them are rather…shall we say…eclectic?your writing style is great, I like the layout, and it is easy to move around from post o post.

    1. Your tagline is rather large and therefore your header is rather large. It takes up almost a third of the screen, and it makes focusing on the other two thirds a bit difficult, and those two thirds are the most important. I don’t know if you can make the tagline smaller (or perhaps reduce the word count) but if not, perhaps consider a different theme?

    1. I love the idea of a DIY-themed blog, since I happen to be crafty at times, myself! I would like to give you a bit of advice: If you ever start to run out of ideas, take a break every once in a while, and that way you’ll recharge your batteries! And if you ever feel the need to quit: DON’T! Just take a little break, but do not ever quit! It may be very hard at times, but in the end, the reward will definitely be worth it!       1. I don’t want a break, I want to improve:) The first thing I notice about your blog is that I can’t see all the pictures (or perhaps that all of the posts don’t have pictures?) This kind of throws a new reader off. You post quite often though! That must be a lot of work!:)

    1. Two suggestions: 1. Name your blog! When I see a blog called “anonymous737” I don’t know what to expect. People will look at your work more if you have a stronger name 🙂
      2. Watch your grammar — sometimes it’s incorrect and your meaning is unclear.

    1. I like the layout of your blog – and the logo 🙂 So cute! My suggestion: add a picture. You can showcase your own work or use pictures licensed as creative commons (free to use for noncommercial ventures). Posts with photos often do better!
