The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging conversation.
Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?
Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).
To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:
TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
- While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
- The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
- If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
- We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
- Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
- If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
- No running on the deck.

I really liked that post! It has some great advice – especially the part about posting on Twitter in numbers divisible by 3. I must admit, this number of likes isn’t extremley common for me; I have just really promoted my recent posts through Twitter, and the Blogging101 Commons (as well as Community Pool too). That is an intersting suggestion about the subheadings; as a reader, do you feel they are neccessary? If so, when/ in what kind of posts?

hi Sherina – i will write a comment on the blog as well – really love your content but something about the look and feel of the blog doesn’t feel the best for me – feels quite blocky if that makes sense – square – whereas your writing feels quite rounded – square feels a bit businesslike but i see you as someone with lightness and fun and spontaneity [if that glass full handing out smiles is anything to go by] and so there might be a theme that complements you and your style a little bit more…
hope this is helpful
but keep on with the writing

Hey Sherina. I love the design of your blog, everything looks professional.
I don’t know how much writing experience you have in blogging but you do a really good job at it.
The thing I enjoyed the most was those interview questions on the Libster award. I would want to use that on my blog. If you have 10 questions for me, that would be brilliant .
I come from the UK. Any feedback you can give me will be brilliant as I don’t have much blogging experience. Particularly in my writing I like to write lots and lots because I like to grab it as a mini novel and all my blogs are stored in one page. I would want to know if I could put a minimum of 5 or 7 blogs on one page so it makes it easier for the reader to leave comments without clicking on the specific blog.

Gah! You found one! I realize this is a little random. I’m an esthetician and my main blogging focus is my beauty blog at the moment, but theater was always my first love. I’ve carried my community theater obsession into adulthood (most recently I played Tamora in Titus Andronicus this past October) I read your analysis of Stop Kiss which is sitting on my shelf right now. Anyway, I don’t have a ton of help as far as finding your people goes…I’m working on that myself…but I guess if the community pool worked once it could work again 🙂 I like the simplified look of what you have going on, but I’d love to see some categories and maybe a “start here” option in a menu. I think generally though it’s an amazing idea for a blog and I have a couple suggestions and comments that I’ll actually post on your blog posts themselves. I live in Provo, UT (beaucoup Mormons) so I feel like we’d have some similar content and language constraints based on our respective locales.
Anyway, what I’m spasmodically ranting about is that I love what you’ve got going and I’m looking forward to watching this blog unfold 🙂

Hi Bianca,
I read your poem, I loved it. In the context of all that’s happening in India, and our continued struggle to get society to accept women as sentient beings and not objects, or upholders of moral values, this is especially relevant. If only people understood the simple idea of consent! 😦

Yo! Your blog seems so cool. 🙂 I’d say that if you don’t want to lose momentum, then try to space your posts out. If you can’t include DIY’s for every blog post, then you can space them out with posts about arts & crafts in general. I’d also say that don’t get overwhelmed with posting often, just be consistent. Write for yourself! I wrote an article about how to maintain a blog for others, if you’d like to check it out 🙂

Will all your posts be crafts you do? What medium are you using for the pendants and will we hear more about them? I’ve made jewelry with silver, brass, and copper. I was intrigued to know you are in the UK. You should elaborate more on the technique you used in “pulled paper”, I’d never heard of that style before.

Hi, thanks for replying. 🙂 Well I make things with recycled materials, so that includes paper jewelry with found objects in a mixed media style. Hi – I enjoyed reading your posts (and thanks for the tips on sewing in zips!).
I think a lot of people would like to see how you did things – maybe you could just stop and take quick photos as you progress from raw materials to finished product. Sometimes clear photos are much easier to follow than written instructions. Everything that seems super-easy to you will seem undoable to a novice. I’m not an expert arts and crafts blogger – far, far from it, so I’m just speaking as an interested reader.
Lots of luck with your blog

I suppose you could put the photos on a page and let your less confident readers click onto a link to the illustrated version. People feel a lot more secure when they can see something take shape – and mysterious processes like putting in a zip are easier when you have photos, or a human being in front of you.

“Baby Steps” was absolutely heart breaking. I think your blog is beautiful and simple and I feel like I get a sense of why it’s important not to make the information very easily accessible. My impression is that a reader familiarizes themselves with your blog the way they would another person….gently. Peeking around for something of interest and absorbing respectfully. This is your house. It’s a welcoming one, but I have the impression that you don’t put up with rudeness and I like that.
My first impulse was to comment but I saw that that wasn’t an option. On the one hand, it sounds like you’ve been on the butt end of enough misunderstanding that allowing comments from uninformed or willfully ignorant random strangers is a recipe for further hurt and separation. On the other hand, shutting out the bad shuts out the good too.
It’s not my place to tell you what you should or shouldn’t do, but I’d love to see you open up some posts to comments in the future. People like to participate and it could help attract (and keep) more readership.
As for the content: SO interesting. I love your perspective. The anonymity makes it feel more honest to me. I grew up LDS (but left a little while back), so I grew up needing to have a somewhat different view of what marriage and relationships were supposed to look like. I have a cousin who is in a long-term polyamorous relationship, but I get the feeling that talking openly about it in a public forum doesn’t feel like an option for him. I’m glad you’re talking about it. The harder it is to talk about the more important it is to talk about 🙂
Sorry if this is really ranty…I just really enjoyed what I read and had a lot of thoughts about it. Though I couldn’t relate to the specifics, thematically, it hits really close to home.

Hi, I really like your header image and your customized facebook and twitter links. If I was asked to name one change that would make me like your blog more, it would be to reduce the number of moving images. Oh wow! It’s awesome that you can relate to the article about makeup, I think that was my main objective! And I’m really glad you like the layout! You don’t think the moving gifs are too much? Thanks a lot for reading and following 🙂

I like to think blogging is as much for you as it is for your readers. If you like the moving gifs then use them. I personally didn’t find them an issue, but sadly, as with everything, others probably will… you can’t win ’em all!
You’re very welcome 🙂

I’m still a new blogger, but I found that the aesthetics of your layout really contribute to your blog and the subjects you post about! In my opinion, the graphics actually add to your blog, it allows for the readers to get a good laugh sometimes. And it also seems like you reach out to a broad audience. Honestly, I can’t find any complaints. Great blog, just continue what you’re doing!

First of all the post itself was a great read!
You’re really good at delivering your points and I read it a few times just because it was enjoyable.
The layout’s great and it’s super-easy to go through everything (which I will do very soon).
I do think the amount of GIFs slightly distracts from the content a bit, but it’s hardly an issue.
Overall it’s great! 😀

Wow, how beautifully have you written down this emotional story. Secrets are never good in any relationship, but sometimes the time is just not right, is it? It’s a shame that there aren’t more people that have read this post…

You are right. Secrets hurt. I hope that you two can get past this. And if you can’t, I know that your honesty will allow you to find someone who loves you, regardless.
Be strong. No turning back. You can get through it. I’ll follow you! And, there is more to parenting than having a baby. Adoption is a beautiful and selfless choice. Stay strong.

Hello- The supportive nature of all of you on WordPress is uplifting. I’m not a wiz with my blog, but am learning the widgets the best I can. Now if I could only figure out how to use the damn ‘page’ function properly. https://mtaggartwriter.wordpress.com/

Thank you for the feedback Olivia. I just started following you. Seems to me you’re handling the tech well. Better than me that’s for sure! The only suggestion that comes to mind is your header photo is on the small side, especially width wise, and it almost takes away from the content below. Just a thought and of course what matters most is what fits you best. Certainly not what I think.

Hi! You’re really assertive (in a good way, of course), and it really adds to your blog. I love the poems you’ve published so far! And, I my main suggestion is what you’ve already mentioned, add more widgets so your readers can navigate your blog a bit easier.

Thank you for saying hello! My personality is very assertive and determined. That’s the first someone’s said that on WordPress about what I’ve posted thus far. Thank you. Now if Only I could transfer that comment to my About 😉 And yes, I need to further my knowledge of the widgets. Next up for me to learn is the ‘page’ function. And someone just helped me concerning my header picture. I’ll most likely transition that to something that fits my writing brand. Though, I don’t currently have the proper picture to do the job. I’ll go check out your Blog now.

I really like the way the instagram widget looks with the larger picture at the top – did this come with the theme? Beautiful pictures 🙂 I don’t think your site is boring! But perhaps the font is a little small in the posts on the front page.. for me anyway. You could also try a colourful header if you feel like you’re missing out on colour – anyway really interesting posts 🙂

I think your content is perfect, you balance chatty and informative very well and post some absolutely stunning photos. The only thing I would say is that the font/colour of the links to your ‘About’ page and so on, are a little faint. Though that might just be my crappy laptop…

I like to travel, too, and travelled a moderate amount in my youth, also. Just remember to reflect on the perspectives of locals compared to your readers, and engage all the senses.
And give your boyfriend a name, it’s dull and disconnecting to keep reading ‘my boyfriend’, and you have the opportunity to have fun with naming him.

I have been blogging for about a year and a half now and am still happy doing it. My recent blog is actually a four part series plus introduction based around a theme of ‘My Four Seasons’. Altogether it is the most I have written since graduating college and I was looking for feedback about how to promote a project as lengthy as this. I published them one a day, for 5 days, but the length of them has kept some people away from reading them I think, rather than when I do individual blogs. If I do this type of series again, should I space them out more? One a week? One a month? Any help appreciated-

Hi Olivia and thanks for the feedback!
I love your writing style! It’s quirky and clever. I suppose your audience would be people in a similar situation as you. Perhaps you can focus on that. It’s important to define your blog’s purpose and stick to that purpose. Imagine you are someone else reading your blog. How can your audience learn through your experiences in uni? Would it be helpful to you? Would you use it as a resource in the future?
I hope this was helpful! Keep up the great work!

I think my biggest suggestion to you would be to use the space you have in your blog wisely. Take advantage of pingbacks (like creating a link) instead of writing out the entire website domain. Adding a few widgets to your sidebars can really spruce up the appearance (like an archive of your blogs or most popular). An easy to find subscription widget could be helpful. You could even use websites like polyvore.com to put together cute boards with money-saving products.
Hope this was helpful!!
