Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. I think the most recent post is a good one. I think it’s important to remember that ‘feminist’ has a differing meaning for different people, and people’s reasons are very varied. I think the main reason is self-evident, that anyone who calls themselves a feminist wants equality across the board and no discrimination because of gender, but granted, there are subtleties of reasoning that make everyone’s finer reasons slightly different. Anyway, I think it’s an important topic, and you write well on it, so keep it up 🙂

  1. I started a blog about two years ago and after writing a few posts just left it to collect dust on the internet…however, since I started actively reading blogs myself it reignited my desire to create my own content again! I would very much appreciate any feedback or comments on my posts – I’m writing specifically about TV/entertainment in the UK 🙂

It is very much a work in progress so all criticism is appreciated! Thank you guys!

    1. I like the really simple layout 🙂 I feel like a sidebar could add something – you can add tags/archives so people can look for specific things.

Also – I like the no frills aspect but maybe the occasional photo would break up the text a little 🙂

    2. Your writing is so wonderfully descriptive. Now I am in the mood for pizza! 🙂 I would have loved to see some pictures of the food, though. Not sure if maybe there were pictures and just something wrong on my end.

    1. Hi. I enjoyed the empowerment coming across from your latest post. As a suggestion perhaps using some headings or slightly shorter paragraphs might break it up visually and make it easier to read on a small screen (I’m reading on iphone). Thanks!

    1. I really liked the way you integrated the pictures in with the text. Your writing is solid, and you make some great points. It may be worth doing one more read through to catch little things like commas and spaces after periods (I’m an English teacher, sorry!) Also, if you include a little vignette about a typical interaction, or a particularly fun or charming one, that would make the scene come alive. The more detailed your writing is, the more vivid–so when you say you saw things you’ve never seen, naming them would be nice. Or when you say your favorites weren’t there–name them too. Good work!

      1. I thought of naming the farmer’s who weren’t there but for the life of me I couldn’t remember the farm’s name ( it was hill something and I’m horrible with names) so them not being there left me staring at the screen for half an hour . And they were the farmers with the amazing foods that I hadn’t seen before. Since it was so cold the tents were wrapped in plastic so I din’t go in and take pics of the beef, duck, and fish. So I wanted to revisit after the thaw in NYC. Thanks for the feedback, its always appreciated.

    1. I really loved your million dollar night gown post. I think you have a talent for writing. The only thing I would mention (perhaps because I’ve been staring at the screen too long today) I found the brightly coloured bands slightly dazzling.

If there’s anything specific you were wondering about, reply to this and I’ll let you know what I think.

      1. I appreciate your comment thank you, so much, means lots! Nothing specific just wanted to hear a few opinions I don get a lot of readers. However it has been enjoyable I feel like I have a hobby so I guess that counts more!

    1. That pizza recipe made me hungry! Really like the step by step photos – that’s really helpful. You could potentially tag key ingredients? That way if a reader has chicken (as an example) they could just click that tag and see all those recipes.

  3. Hello everyone!
My blog is all about what it’s like being a Christian teenage girl, and the many crazy thoughts I have! I’m still relatively new to wordpress and would love some feedback 🙂
My latest post is about not criticising yourself because God made you perfectly and loves everything about you! Please have a look 🙂

    1. Hi there, just had a look at your blog, I think the layout is pretty simple making is easy to navigate and the use of the colour yellow served as good contrast for the white background.
I also like that you use photos in each of your reviews, that is one thing I lack in my blog 🙂

    2. I think an “Archive” tab/page or “Search” function would be great to help readers sieve out the movie reviews they would want to view. Otherwise, I love the simplicity of the layout.

  4. Hello blogging world,

I started my blog in August last year with absolutely no idea what I was doing – it started as just an outlet for me but I’d really like more of a following now.

I have regular posts every week (‘Quote for the week ahead’ that comes out every Monday and ‘Friday Favourites’ each Friday) but all my other posts are pretty sporadic because I always seem to be busy.

I’d LOVE for people to take a look at my blog:

And let me know what you think I’m doing is any good or whether I’m heading in completely the wrong direction!

    Thanks 🙂

    5. I really like the title and tag line of the blog! I smiled as I saw/read it. I have lived in England for a couple of years and suppose I could be a little bias as I loved my time there.

The featured header image was great too – subtle but I see that mug with the union jacks! I can honestly say that the theme really suits the purpose of the blog.

I have travelled a lot but my blog do not focus on that…and I drew over 500 doodles for the blog and still dont know what I’m doing – I do strongly feel that you have a better idea than I do.

      Keep it up. 🙂
      Ella.

  5. Hi everyone,
I would really appreciate some feedback on my most recent posts which are my February favourites and a random contemplation about opinions. All feedback helps me improve my blog which I am grateful for. As well as my blog posts I would appreciate general feedback on my blog as well.

  7. Do I need to upgrade my blog if I want to add widgets that would let me see who’s mentioning my name/posts on internet? I recently quoted someone on my blog, and almost immediately they ask to follow me even though i didn’t follow or knew about their blog. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
