Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  2. General question.

Is there a reason why some people’s post on Reader say “Sorry, this blog only allows us to show the first section of a post.” when you go to comment- as oppose to the entire post, or “read more”?

  3. Hi there I have 2 blogs one I have had for a little while now and another is brand new. Both completely different focuses. My main one in question is http://www.thoughtsoutloud.me I will include the link to what seemed to be my most “liked” post as far as sharing on Facebook went. IF you have time I would super appreciate if you checked out some of the other posts as well. I just need feedback….badly. I have zero traction when I share my posts on Facebook wah-wah 😦 I hate to sound like such a cry baby but I have a lot of passion for this blog and I feel like NO ONE reads it. I definitely don’t get any interaction on posts so how would I know?

Here is the link to my post “The Imagination Killer” http://thoughtsoutloud.me/2014/05/12/the-imagination-killer/

And here is the link to my newest blog and the only post so far on there, like I said its brand spankin new…also check out the Home page while you’re there if you wish, it lets you know what the site is all about in a nutshell.

But I am most concerned with the first post.

    Thank you!!

    1. One suggestion I have is maybe try to add the “continue reading” to your posts so when they show up on your home page, readers have to click to the posts page to keep reading. Right now its a little hard to sift through the posts.

I hope this helps you a little!

      1. Oh ok! That’s a good idea! Yeah I am still trying to work on the formatting for the blog. Did you get a chance to really read any of the content? Thank you!

Also I really like your blog, the pictures are great and the post about new portrait photography is a great takr on brining out someone personality, without evening showing their face.

    2. thanks for looking at my blog!

I read a couple of your more recent posts and the one you linked to above, and I really do like the content and what you talk about. I think if you just look into different ways to format, maybe include more images to engage readers visually, and maybe even write more (from what I saw it was only a post a month) then you can increase traffic. But of course, just don’t give up!

      Good luck to you! 🙂

    1. Be sure you are logged into your wordpress account and not just reading an email.

Go to the MySites tab and click on WP-admin. This will show you you classic dashboard, the place where you can edit pages and posts and publish. On the left, you will see the word “comments” click on that and you will see a list of comments and how to approve or deny them.

If you have trouble doing so, get into your dashboard and click on the word “setting” on the left. Then click on the word “Discussion.” Here you can change your settings for your comments – you may have them blocked.

If these actions do not help, seek the help files. In the dashboard, they are found by clicking the word “help” in the upper right corner of your screen. We bloggers all learn how to do things with them, sometimes easier than talking with each other. They are simple, accurate.

If you cannot find what you are looking for in the help files; contact a happiness engineer. You can learn many great things from happiness engineers.

Once you play around with your site, approving comments is not so difficult and other blogging abilities are easy to learn, too. Leave a comment on jcm3blog.com about our latest post; let us know if this reply was at all of any help.

Good luck with your plight in blogging. It is fun, for sure. 🙂

  6. It literally made me Lol! Nice blog, good balance, may I suggest the old phone would appreciate a little more about his role while he was still the latest and greatest, and perhaps his plot for revenge? Ha-ha-ha.

  10. Hello there,

I just recently posted on my blog. Does anyone else feel sick when they post something? I feel like I just had a baby after every single posting. Can someone please take a look at my blog and tell me if I should just abandon ship. I really need some honest feedback about what is working and what is not working when it comes to my blog. I would really appreciate any feedback and would love to return the favor.
