Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hi again! This time, I’ve written a review and guide on Tomodachi Life, a 3DS game that puts your Mii’s into the centre-stage of life as they know it. What’s good and bad about the game, and how do you get started? All this and more on my newest post: A daughter with Lady Gaga, and a hamster-cage for a home.

  2. I have just started a blog. The writing may be a little immature but this is where I would like to share what I experience and would like to hear other’s perspectives on them. So if you do get a chance, please do visit and let me know your perspectives:)

    1. I like your blog style it’s bright and looks great.

I will be following, I like shorter content, as you mentioned in your update. It allows you to write about different topics and share thoughts in a concise way.

      Keep it up!

  4. I’m new to blogging and I would like any type of feedback whatsoever! I don’t doubt for a second that everyone’s blogs are their life and thoughts so I just want to know how to make mine more personal and inviting!

  5. Hi everyone !
I have a few faithful followers but I’m not sure what else I can do to keep my readers coming back (I don’t want to always be messaging people to read my stuff or posting on my wall all the time). Also I’m wondering if it’s the layout that’s causing the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated !

    Here’s my blog:

  6. Hi everybody!

So, a little new to blogging, still trying to find my feet and make my blog as interesting as possible. In terms of layout, is my blog manageable to navigate and read? I find that sometimes it can be quite in your face because everything seems so… large. Please let me know what you think (about anything else as well)!

  7. Hi! I am new to blogging but have a great passion for helping small business and job seekers alike challenge themselves and reach their potential. Before I start posting much more, I want to make sure the layout of my blog is easy to navigate and that the content is relevant to my goal. I appreciate any feedback and would be happy to return the favor. Thanks!

    1. I actually liked your post, and it made several good points. A tip I read once, and that might help, is to roll out your blog with at least 3 posts in quick succession. It looks more professional, like you were prepared, and otherwise it is likely to get overlooked.

  9. Hello all,
As usual, always open to feedback, perhaps suggestions/follow-ups to some of my older posts. Currently, I’m in the process of several more blog posts about my personal struggles. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

      1. Ok. I purchased mythoughtlane.com and wanted to use that as my main domain. Had read that a .com gives more visibility. After buying that , I had to link it to my wordpress.com blog page. So followed wordpress.com instructions to link ( map ) both and did so. Spent $13 , I dont mind that as long as I can achieve what I want to.

    1. Hi – are there requirements that the blog has to fulfil for the class? Do you need to be ‘marketing’ something in it?

I read a couple of posts and it reads fine, though you don’t sound very enthusiastic. There’s not much of you in the posts and it’s not clear why you’re telling us what you tell us. In your About page you say that you like travelling. I’d try to communicate some of that in your posts. When you went on your lake trip and saw the houses, did anything interesting happen? What did you imagine, specifically, about any one of the houses? Did your feet get wet? Pour some of yourself into it and I think you’ll find it more satisfying to write.

      Good luck with the project.

      1. Thanks for the feedback. It’s good to hear how it reads to someone else. No requirements so far, just create it and keep it up. I’ll work on getting more personality into the posts. Thanks again!

      2. Good luck with it. 🙂 For most people it’s a process of mining for your own personality in writing, rather than adding it. Your personality is there in the posts – I think, if anything, I’d scrape away the ‘tourist information brochure’ layer of style that’s sitting on top of it and hiding it.

If somebody who lives near you read the post about going out on the lake in a boat, they’d know about the lake, but they’d be interested in your opinion, your imagination, the people you met, adventures you had, difficulties overcome, how the light fell on the water or whatever strikes your eye. If somebody reads the post who’s never visited the lake, they’d like to see all the personal stuff, for sure, and maybe, at the end, a quick bit of info about how to get to the lake (buses? tickets – bought on board? cost? roads?) and how to get on the lake (how much does a boat cost to rent? is there a boat company that you recommend? where are the boats found?) All that is second nature to you, but very useful to a visitor.

  11. Hello guys! This is my first blog post in which I tried to speak my mind. Usually I can’t. I can’t give them voice. And my thoughts keep stuck in my mind. I will appreciate if you can make me learn more by your feedback. Thank you 🙂

  12. I am new to the blogging community. It amazes me how genuine, friendly and helpful everyone is. This to me shows how much value blogging really gives the world, for that I thank you. I can pretty much find a blog on anything and absorb value for free. I will be enjoying my stay.
