Community Pool

The place for tips, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    Fearing Security

I wish that you could understand
    These feelings you could comprehend
Desire burns my soul to bare
But tell you? No I do not dare.

My conscience and all it holds therein
    Does reprimand my wayward bend
Engaged in passions all its own,
My mind wants to be left alone.

I’m torn; emotions pull both ways.
I “must be righteous all my days”
    I want to, though this need is there;
It crowds out every other care.

Then you appear with weapons drawn
To storm my castle, and haunt its halls.
You tear down all protective walls,
strip my defenses, and leave me raw.

Exposed, I seek a place to hide,
Where safety dwells I must reside.
I turn to run, but you are there,
    A strange and unfamiliar air.

You bind me in your arms of steel,
I feel secure, there’s no more tears.
And now my thoughts are very clear,
I run to you, but I ran from fear.

There are no more lonely castle halls,
For love and peace have conquered a

BTW, pointers how? Like that the expression came from a Robin Williams movie and it was filmed here in my home state?

  2. I’m having trouble making up titles for my posts and deciding what tags to use. I want to increase my views but nothing seems to be working. Also, my titles are sometimes pretty lame. Any tips/pointers?

  5. Hi everyone! I just started my blog a few days ago… and would like your help on what you would like to see from my blog. I currently have two posts up under the category BIG 5!

I want this blog to mean different things. I started it because I want to help others learn “how to millennial”, aka how to get through life in our current societies expectations and assumptions about us.

Any creative criticism and feedback would be greatly appreciated! I will create a copy of my post on my blog as well… so feel free to comment your suggestions about improvement, topics you’d like to see, etc!

I am not afraid of controversial topics… they just take me longer to research and write. 🙂

    Thanks for your help everyone!

    1. I loved your post on how to be a decent human being and couldn’t help but agree with everything you mentioned. More than once I’ve felt mad at just how many “bad” people are out there. It’s like some people just don’t like letting other people be happy. The only thing I would suggest is to fill out your about page because I often like to know about the person who’s writing I’m reading. Great blog so far!! 🙂

    1. I didn’t hesitate to press follow! I loved the light conversational way you write and found your post on everyday resolutions to be very true. Surprisingly my most two recent posts were on flaws and resolutions as well separately so it was nice to read a different persons view on the topic and I couldn’t help but agree more with everything you mentioned. Great blog so far, can’t wait to see more!! I would only suggest to continue blogging often and you’ll naturally get more feedback 🙂

    1. You’re post on Dare to do was very cute and I love your thought process in the dream of how secret doesn’t even keep people from reading things they shouldn’t. I was wondering by the way of what theme you’re using because I don’t remember ever seeing it or I might have just forgotten. Anyways, great blog so far!!! 😀

      1. Hey 🙂
Thank you so much for the wonderful words and yes I do believe that ww humans have a knack of peeping into things we shouldn’t.
The theme I’m using is called “Motif”. Its plain, simple and really good 🙂
Hope to see you around 🙂

  6. Hi–stumbling thru putting my first blog up on Plane last week, using just an Androud, when I saw this class. I’m in a remote location. I like my splash page, but header text needs to be larger, don’t like my Gravatar “About” stuffed together, don’t understand the codex and fairly certain when I begin explaining cell biology w/photos I’ll need more G’s—so better to straighten that out now, yes? Thanks!

    1. Reality is different for each person. Reality is a perception of an idividual and veries from person to person.

Your blog looks nice and perfetional. If that’s what your going for, it looks great.

  7. I just started a 3rd blog this morning actually and there is so much I want to say but you can only do one post at a time. Here is the first one. I would like to know if the layout is apealing or to happy. I did want to make it happy insteady of depessing and sad. And I would like to know if I expresses everything okay and was able to express the difficulty of having mental illness. Thank you.

  8. Hello everyone! We recently started a blog and would like your guys’ feedback on it. More specifically, I would like to know if it seems more like a business blog or a casual blog. We’re blogging about online marketing and directing our business niche towards families and couples. Also, what design edits can we do to make it more appealing. Thanks for the feedback! http://letitflowin.wordpress.com/

    1. The blog looks very business. it has a nice family theme with scrolling family photos on the left.
The header picture could do with being higher quality, it’s a little blurred, although i know this is hard if you don’t have a better image.
The page is a little cluttered at the top. maybe you could streamline by removing unnecessary widgets to declutter.
      Very nice so far though!

  9. Hello! I’ve been blogging for a little over a year, but haven’t been very focused about it. I would love feedback. Layout is frustrating for me – I have changed my theme at least a dozen times. The one I currently have pleases me the most, but I haven’t learned CSS enough to manipulate the colors any yet. Navigation around the site is another thing I would like feedback on. I wonder too how to alter the way the “social” links are viewed on the page. I don’t mind them all in one box, I just don’t know why they are spaced so far apart. In general – giving me an idea of how the page strikes the reader would be helpful. Thank you! This evening I will explore some of your sites as well. I love the ideas you have shared with each other already. Enjoy!

    1. What they are teaching us in Blogginf 101 is tags, tags and more tags. If your really adveturous look up other blogs to comment and like. Most people have it that they need to accept comments so they will have an idea who you are. You could also go to a blog or two and personally ask in their comment session if kept short to check out your blogs content.
