New to WordPress? Blogging 101 starts on January 5.

Make sure your new years’ blogging resolution sticks with our guided intro-to-blogging course.

If you’re new to blogging, a new session of our introductory blogging course starts on Monday, January 5 — and all bloggers are welcome, whether you blog on WordPress.com, a self-hosted WordPress blog, or somewhere else entirely.

What is Blogging 101? Four weeks of daily bite-size blogging assignments that take you from “Blog?” to “Blog!” along with a supportive community to encourage you all the way through. At the end of the course, you’ll have a blog you’re proud and excited to publish — and that others are excited to read. Here’s how it works:

If any other baby bloggsters are as nervous about this as I was, I have only one thing to say – go for it! My site is looking more and more how I want it to look and I am gaining confidence and followers (up to 423!) by the day.

Assignments fall into three broad categories — publishing posts and pages, customizing your blog, and engaging with the community — and are designed to build on one another.

  • We’ll post a new assignment here on The Daily Post each weekday at 12AM GMT. Each assignment will contain all the inspiration and instructions you need to complete it. Weekends are free (but we’ll suggest some ways you might want to spend them).
  • Participants will have a private community site, the Commons, for chatting, connecting, and seeking feedback and support. Daily Post staff and Happiness Engineers will be on hand to answer your questions and offer guidance and resources.

You’ll walk away with six (or more!) published posts and a handful of drafts, a customized theme that reflects your personality, a small but growing audience, a good grasp of blogging etiquette — and a bunch of new online friends.

Ready to kick start your blog? Sign up by filling out this simple form:

Note: you won’t receive an automated confirmation email immediately, but you will get a welcome email with complete instructions prior to the start of the course.

  1. I am going to be retaking it, too. Just started wrapping my head around the different concepts. As soon as the class stopped and I was busy for a while doing other things, I forgot soooo much!

  2. I have been blogging for about two years but I know there is so very much that I am lacking that I need to know for both my ‘personal’ blog and my photo blog.
Does anyone know if there is any organization or programs or even individuals that ‘sponsers’ blogs? Like, pays for the theme and the domain name of the blog.
    Thanks.

  3. The best lesson Blogging 101 taught me was I was writing the wrong blog. The topic was interesting but it was getting me nowhere. I scrapped it and picked a topic that I personally enjoy and I can’t wait to actively participate in the upcoming class with my “for real this time” blog. The “Wise Blog of Why’s” is centered around Fun Facts and it has some of everything; myths, lists, riddles, brain teasers, Q&A’s, and more.

    1. The assignments are intended to help you develop your own blog; there are no set topics for posting assignments, and you’re meant to be able to use all assignments no matter what you blog about.

    1. It’s the “s” in the “https” triggering a warning in your browser — you can either just delete the “s” (it’s totally safe, I promise), or fill out the form right in this post instead (eg, by visiting the post on The Daily Post rather than using the link in the email).

      1. Thank you so much for leaving the link. I thought you were one of the wordpress staffs. My apologies for that. It’s again working now. I think sometimes they are updating and in the process, some features don’t work for a while. Thank you again for the link. I will keep it for future reference. Have a lovely xmas season. 🙂

    1. We only use the URL to generate a community blogroll for the group on the Commons site, so a misspelling doesn’t affect your registration at all. When the course actually starts, we’ll just find your URL in the blogroll list and fix it 🙂
