Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hi everyone!!!

I am new to the world of blogs (literally I posted for the first time like a week ago) and I love the idea of having people check my page and leave feedback. I like to learn new things that help improve what I do and provide new ideas. If you guys can take a look and tell me what you think it would be AWESOME!!!

    1. Very clever moniker for your blog to go with some deeply sincere writing. I thought your about page is one of the best I’ve seen and judging by your infinite bucket list I’m sure you’ll be posting a lot more. Thanks for sharing

      1. Kind sir, yours nice words threaten to inflate my ego 😉

I appreciate that you not only checked out my humble blog but took the time to say ‘Hi’. But most of all, I thank you for introducing me to the word ‘moniker’ — it’s quirky and I love it.

I checked out your blog and, not knowing what to expect before I clicked on your name, I am glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Your extensive travels are well documented and captured in beautiful photos — it’s all truly inspiring. Looking at your travels makes my huge bucket list feel a little bit more manageable 🙂

From the advice and personal replies you give all over website, you genuinely seem like a nice lad so it is my absolute pleasure to have made your acquaintance!

        Cheers.

  2. Hey everyone! I posted for the first time in a couple of months and would love some feedback on my post “Dare You to Move.” and “The daughter I Haven’t Met Yet.” I started my blog about 9 months ago, but am still trying to figure out exactly what I want the emphasis to be and how much time I have to devote to it!. My content is mostly about Christian Living and Parenting. Thanks in advance! http://www.loveplunge.wordpress.com

    1. Hi! Love your blog! Really like your about page…probably because I absolutely love Harry Potter and I mostly spend my time on Youtube. Love your theme as well. Your writing style is also fun to read. You got another follower. Take a look at my blog as well if you want. whatiliketodobysteve.wordpress.com

    1. The subtitle “Or My Meltdown” doesn’t help your cause. It may draw some readers in though. I also browsed the “about” page to see what the blog is about. The “about” page may be a good starter point to tailor your blog to not crossing those boundaries.

    1. Hi Freddie and welcome to the blogosphere. While cosmetics aren’t really my thing, you seem genuinely enthused about the subject & that comes through in your writing. I’m sure you’ll find your following. Best wishes

    1. Good music, long walks, journal writing especially. I love going for a long walk to clear my brain, then sitting down somewhere, anywhere comfortable and just letting it all out on paper. Does wonders. You uncover wells of honesty and forthrightness that you may think you did not have in store.

    2. Wallow in it for a while to get the feeling and some inspiration for future blog posts. Then find a way to get up and move on again. Use your past experiences to lift you up, knowing if you can do it the first time, you will manage to survive it again.

  5. I literally just started a new blog…like yesterday. I’m currently an aspiring author and my first post (well…my only post at the moment…) is about how I came up with the idea for my first book, and a little of the background. Please let me know your thoughts by responding to my blog directly. Thanks in advance for your responses!

    1. I went and chose an article at random to read from your blog. I read the 1984 review. I wouldn’t expect a blog to cover it with as much detail as say, an English paper or political science debate, so I went in expecting succinct. It was a decent description, but it was riddled with typos which detracts from your opinion since you’re reviewing a literary staple.

I’d give your posts more of a proof-read, but aside from that I liked your blog. It was well presented and friendly.

  6. Hi Everyone,

I joined the Blogging 101 class and feel like it has really given the blog some legs it was missing. I’m enjoying being part of the blogging community and hope to learn a lot more from those who have paved the path before us. We are blogging more regularly and have really tried to focus on what we want our blog to be. As we are just starting to get some real traffic, I hope others are enjoying what they are reading and perhaps finding that it sticks out from the crowd of the many food, wine, cocktail blogs that are out there.

If you have a chance, please take a look and let us know what you think.

    1. Heya. Just had a look at your blog. Firstly I’d just love to say what a catchy name! I love it. I like that you blogged in list form as it is easier to read and your language isn’t over complicated. What I would say is that while it’s awesome that you’re looking to share your trade secrets as it were, I, for example, live in Ireland so things about Walmart aren’t relevant to me. I would try making your tips a little more universal, but great job so far 🙂

    1. Heya Just had a look at your blog. I think if you had a little “about” section it would encourage people to come back as it looks a little bit impersonal at the moment 😛 these things can be easily fixed using the widgets in the setting on the free plan.

    2. I too am working on a following, this is a slow process as I don’t have my social media linked as I am blogging anonymously. I find that interacting with other blogs and commenting is a great way to build a community. Good luck.

  10. I’ve recently started a blog about my Asperger Syndrome as a way of getting what’s in my head into coherent sentences, which helps both me, and hopefully spreads some awareness. Was wondering what kinds of topics people want to know about in regards to this?

    1. First of all, though your blog is very new, it’s fascinating– enlightening and fascinating. I want to read more. The post ‘Oversensitivity’ offered a first person insight that made me feel like ‘I got it’, and your ‘introduction …’ post put a completely different spin on categorizing people. Usually, that’s a negative, but not the way you explain it.

As per your question, I think any subject you choose to write about will be interesting: going to the store, socializing, learning to drive, what you find funny, what you don’t that others seem to (if that’s the case), anything. In ‘Oversensitivity’, you mentioned struggling to read people’s emotions. Is that a conscious act for you? What are the cues you look for, and what are your thoughts at the time? You could do a lot of posts about that sort of thing, if you’re comfortable writing about things that are that personal.

      Some general blog suggestions:
You might consider replacing the standard about page filler with your ‘introduction …’ post. You also might want to add some widgets, particularly a follow blog button and a list a recent posts. To me, those look best, and are easiest for readers to find, when they are in the sidebar rather than at the bottom. As you add more posts, you’ll probably want an archive widget, as well, and a more extensive menu.

      Fascinating blog! Hope that helps.
