The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.
Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?
Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).
To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:
TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
- While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
- The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
- If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
- We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
- Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
- If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
- No running on the deck.

We do take a lot of what we have in our lives for granted, and as much as we want to help others, sometimes it just might be enough to help one other, if not as many as we can.
And thank you for that word, Glossophobia. There are apparently more people who are afraid of public speaking than they are afraid of death.

I actually almost added that on my thesis – there are more people afraid of public speaking than there are of death – but I didn’t have enough material to prove it.
Unfortunately, in today’s world, we don’t have time for our own family, let alone one other.
Thank you for reading and the comment 🙂

Hi LoudThoughtsVoicedOut! I loved your blog. It was so inspirational. One thing I would improve, and I am working on this myself, is perhaps maybe putting in more images in the text? I, too, have a-lot to say when I make a post, and I know it deters viewers to see a chunk of text. So I try to space it out, but I think one thing I need to do differently is add pictures! Not necessarily of myself, just funny or related/relatable (two totally different things, I know) pictures. But then again, I am pretty new. Just a thought! Congrats on one whole year! 🙂

Hey,
Thank you so much 😀 I keep hearing that and I try to add pictures but some times, I just can’t seem to add pictures with certain topics because they either don’t go well or I can’t seem to find something that makes sense for the topic. I don’t know if that makes sense.. I will keep looking for topics and pictures that go hand in hand.. 🙂 Thank you 😀

Hi there. I am new to blogging and today is the first day in this community of bloggers. I have visited your blog, and it is well written, but I think I recognize something in you that I have….. its called the “chattering monkey”. The thoughts in our heads that are so loud, and so constant that they need to be expressed. I encourage you to continue writing and making your voice heard. You say you as one person cant change anything, I disagree. I am one person and the sole intention of my post is to voice what I see, what I hear, what I know, in a way to help create awareness with people, so we can effectively start minimizing the crime that we live with on a daily basis.
In closing, your voice is as loud as mine. Put them together and now we have two voices. Add another then we have three. Soon, we have a choir of voices. And it all started with just that one voice.
Wishing you strength and best luck.

I think it’s important to be open to opposing views too. I like it when people challenge my thoughts or writing. I guess it depends on what you are blogging for. If it’s recognition and finding support then no, having too many dissenting views is bad for morale. But if it’s to discover something or to work out a thought theory, then having the other side of the story helps critical thinking!

1. Does it come off as condescending?
2. Does the humor come out in my voice?
3. Is it entertaining and readable? Or too many tangents and too long?
4. Does it give you information you think you’ll use in your writing?
Thanks 🙂

Hi. First, beautiful header picture. No, it does not come off as condescending, though I only made it through point 6, which leads me to question 3: Yes, it is too long. It was entertaining and readable at the start but then it began to bog down.
Maybe if you shortened some of the items. For example:
3. Most cases (I don’t know the precise stat but it’s at least 95%) don’t go to trial. Criminal cases get pled out and civil cases settle. It takes years for criminal cases to get to trial. Even just the process of discovery and negotiation takes years. If it does go to trial, appeals can stretch it out even longer.
Long enough to tell me something helpful, not so long that my head starts spinning.
I know what you mean about accuracy in movies. My daughter and I make a game of it. Don’t get me started on how two young, single schoolteachers can afford the houses they were living in in a recent Hallmark Christmas movie. There was quite a Facebook chat about that one.
Bottom line is that in movies, moving the story along prevails. We who watch must suspend belief and employ our hearts over our heads.

1. No, your blog doesn’t come off as condescending to me. You are, however, voicing your opinion, which is totally acceptable and great.
2. I did not find the post on the homepage to be humorous, but that doesn’t mean that . . .
3. . . . it wasn’t entertaining. I enjoyed it a lot! I agree. Law is not realistically portrayed hardly ever in media. C’mon Hollywood. Get it together.
4. YES, this blog is very useful! I will definitely keep your tips in mind.

Living in space… I always wondered if that was a Hollywood fancy or if it was actually feasible. If it was, would anyone actually want to go there? Even if we could accomplish it, I feel it may be an economic black hole. It would be starting all over again. Politics, human nature, anarchy, etc. What laws apply in space? On different planets?
What about medical issues? What viruses exist in space? Radiation? Medicine?
It feels so lonely to think that we may be the only of our kind here on Earth, but sometimes I think it is better that way. Living on planets opens a whole can of worms that I don’t think we are ready for. Frankly, can we ever be ready for something like that? I think society needs to be in a pretty desperate position. I feel perhaps we should try it unless we absolutely have to.
I would appreciate it if you could check out my blog over at http://earplug8.wordpress.com/. I would appreciate any advice/comments!

I think in terms of the health issue (you pointed to viruses, radiation, etc) It’s why I think we won’t last very long should we move from here to there, but the future generations born there are the ones likely tot thrive and adapt to the environment.
Cost-wise, it’s going to be a bomb for sure, so it has to be a collaboration. No one country can handle this and then stake a claim following their laws or societal rules. The colony will have to fend for itself in the long run. New rules, new laws, new ways to live. If this is an international endeavour, culture and religion may ultimately take a back-seat within colony living.
In our own history, human migration brought about the same issues and it wasn’t without its own set of problems.

Technology is amazing (my cochlear implant, which I talk about on my blog, is mindblowing) so I think it is a matter of human interest and ability at the end of the day!

I loved the way you presented this recipe. You ditched cookie cutter recipe writing in favor of style and pizazz. Go you! Will definitely keep an eye out for the next post! P.S. I was in Canada this summer so I enjoyed your Canadian updates!
Please check out my blog over at http://earplug8.wordpress.com/. I would appreciate any advice/feedback!

Hi Shayna, thanks for the terrific and specific feedback! Right now the Canada posts are on hold (there’s still two or three more posts to go), because my travel journal is trapped under scaffolding in my room, but they’ll be back. I like your posts too, and have started following you – another friend of mind with cochlear implants has warmed me up to the subject, but sadly she doesn’t post so much right now. Her twitter is @anniebe3 (I dunno why I’m giving it to you, except you mentioned in your about section that you used to not really know people with cochlear implants on the internet)

Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words, the follow, and the name . . . I have a twitter so maybe I will go follow her! Oh no! I hope to see the Canada pictures back up again soon. I made a video of my own Canada trip, and I would put it up, only I don’t know how/where it fits in with my blog… I am looking forward to your next post!

Hey gang. I’m still attempting to develop my literary blog and widen my audience. I’ve just posted a new black humor flash fiction about a transvestite ghost and would love some feedback! http://hannahshomeoftangentramblings.wordpress.com/2014/11/17/the-brooch-pin-and-the-wrapper-or-why-men-shouldnt-wear-green-dresses/
Any advice on how to gain more of an audience would also be very appreciated! Thank-you very much 🙂

I have a question: Does the significance of the last sentence (the one about serving pork) come across? Can you see how it ties in to the ad?

Hello! At first I was very confused, but upon second viewing the purpose has become clearer to me. I think you are fine . . . Blogging is difficult because we only have so much time to capture a person’s interest, and holding it is something else entirely. So, perhaps next time, I would incorporate the ad directly into the post (as opposed to a link) because many viewers are off put by having to navigate away! That’s just my two cents as a brand new WordPress user!
I would appreciate it if you could check out my blog over at http://earplug8.wordpress.com/ and provide some feedback (anything really) as well!

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, putting the ad directly in my post would be easier for the reader, but directing the reader to another blogger’s post spreads the love. Plus, I don’t know the copyright status of the ad.
I checked out your blog. The layout is clean, the writing is engaging and the purpose is a good one. Good job.

Great blog name. The layout is good and easy to follow. I like all the pictures in the posts, and the images in the street art section were very cool, especially the wire sculptures. The enlarged versions of the images took a while to load, so you might consider dropping down the file size and see whether or not it makes any difference in the visual impact.

I’ll look at changing the file size in my next post! Thank you for responding!

So far I’ve done posts about music and TV show reviews, healthy food haul, fashion trends etc I would really appreciate some feedback, I also really want to follow a variety of blogs to get stuck into the blogging community!

Happy Monday everybody. My new music blog http://nowthisiswhatiwouldcallmusic.com is a few weeks old now. I’m looking for feedback from people, particularly the design. Some post previews I have added text some don’t. Which do you prefer? Do you prefer colours or b&w. Appreciate your time.

That’s a cool blog! I love the way the posts are presented, kind of like records. I thought the black and white was catchy, probably because so much of the world is vivid color these days. I like the text that appears when you hover on the link. Where on earth did you get those recordings? It’s a fascinating site and if it weren’t so late, I’d listen to more.

Hi everyone!
Here is a recent blog post of mine about sex education and how it is evolving with new media.
One reason I’m asking for feedback is that this month I’ve been participating in both NaBloPoMo and Photography 101. My NaBloPoMo pieces are text-based, although they always include photos, while my Photo 101 pieces are obviously photo-based. I’ve noticed that very few people have been reading the text-based posts I’ve been writing while I get a fair amount of engagement on the photo-based posts.
Any ideas on how to get readers to find/be more interested in the longer writings?
Thanks!

I liked the YouTube post. I’ve noticed that too with my longer posts vs. when I post quick recipes. The recipes always get more views and interaction. I think people want a quick message to consume in a busy day. I have also noticed video and audio posts do pretty well in other platforms. I wonder if you could video or podcast some of your longer content to compliment the written out version?

Hmm I used to make YouTube videos (both long and short), but that’s not really a medium I’m as interested in anymore. Definitely a good point about wanting quick messages, especially with NaBloPoMo occupying people’s reading/writing time more than in other months. Usually the text-based posts do just fine with readers, but it might be an oversaturation issue this month.

Personally, I’m an advocate of shorter posts. There’s a lot of great content out there, but not a lot of time. Your post about about the changing landscape of sex education was very well done, and surprised me, but it also felt long. Personally, when I see on my reader that a post is over 700 words, I often pass it over, unless I know that blogger is screamingly funny. It’s just about how much time I’ve got before I have to get back to work.

To be fair, it was originally written for a magazine, so it is a bit longer than my usual posts which sit at about 400-500 word each. I definitely understand shying away from longer reads due to time.
