Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  2. Hi everyone.

I recently started blogging about photography, diving, travel and my upcoming trip to SE Asia. Today, I posted 3 original photos that I mean to be the start of a regular Monday photo feature. If anyone could take a look and tell me what you think about the feature, or maybe how it could be improved as a concept – that would be wonderful.

  4. Hi everyone! I write a sort of diary but it is more interesting than that made it sound – lots of people say its funny, but if you could give me some feedback that would really help me out. Oh, and the posts are quite short so if you are often pushed for time like I am it might be easier to read. Thanks!

  5. Hi all,

My blog is http://www.winterfarmwrites.com. I write about raising my family on our small farm in the midwest and pepper my posts with photo postcards from our life here.

I only have a handful of posts so far but would like feedback on the following 3 particular questions.
    1. So far, is there a cohesive voice throughout the posts? In other words, can you tell that the same person wrote all of them?
    2. If you feel there is a cohesive voice, what adjectives would you use to describe that voice?
    3. How is the balance of text and photos within each post? Too much text? Too many photos?

Thank you for your feedback. I’m just starring out here but I want to be sure I’m presenting an attractive, entertaining and cohesive/consistent product for my readers.

    Thanks,
    Anne, creator at WinterFarmWrites.com

  6. Hi everyone 😀 I just started my blog not long ago, and I am hoping for feedback on the appearance of the site in general, mainly I want it to look professional and inviting, but I don’t have much web design experience. Let me know what you think! All feedback is good feedback 🙂

  7. I write a blog for my work at a online handmade jewelry company called The Rusted Key. I’d appreciate any bloggers who have experience using blogs to drive traffic and sales for their independent retail stores.

Should I put more focus on the content of the blog and refrain from mentioning our products at all? Or should I be “highlighting” our stuff more often? I’d appreciate any feedback at all.

    1. I really like your reviews so far! I think a there are quite a few TV review blogs that are short and almost a summary, so I like that yours are more in depth and your personal opinion of the show (Gotham is on my to-watch list so I’ll be following along with what you think!) Awesome start! 🙂

  8. Hey everyone, I’m currently a college student and want to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. So I decided to start my blog to get a little practice with improving my writing skills by writing about entertainment and pop culture and life in general. Any feedback/comments will be greatly appreciated! 🙂

    1. Hey! Your blog is really good. You do a good job of picking interesting topics and keeping things entertaining. The only thing is I don’t think your layout really matches the personality of your blog, but that is such a difficult thing to figure out so I wouldn’t worry too heavily about that. Followed!

    1. I read your “Falling for Myself” post. It’s so refreshing to hear such an honest and encouraging voice. I feel the same way: it’s easy to commend and encourage others but so much harder to convince yourself. Followed for future posts 🙂

      1. Thank you so much for the feedback, I appreciate it! I love your blog, the layout, the posts, the title even. Being a college introvert myself I followed based on the title alone lol. But you have a very nice writing style. Looking forward to future posts!

  10. Hello! I have spent the past week putting pencil to paper, (yes, I know, it’s a bit old fashioned) and I have written a story of about 1500 words. I any of you have some spare time, could you please have a read of it and give me some feed back? I’m not sure if I’m majorly happy with it and any constructive criticism would be gladly accepted! 🙂
