Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

      1. Hallo Rach,

This is actually one of the free WordPress themes, but I also like it because it is more content-focussed. By eliminating the time-line concept (and the resultant endless scrolling), it is much easier to find posts of particular interest to the reader.

I am trying to find a way to incorporate this into my other blogs, as I have found it necessary to use other themes to better serve business purposes. At the moment, I am considering separate pages with master lists of all the posts. Do you think this might work for diary-type themes?

I expect more great posts from you bud. Followed for more 😉

    2. I love the photo in your theme header, and the concept of the blog. I have to be honest- when I first went to your blog I thought the name was Diaries O Fat Traveler, and it threw me off guard. I know it doesn’t make sense, but that’s how my eyes saw it. I think it’s the use of a zero instead of the letter O. Just my small observation. Good luck, and I’m looking forward to travel tips!

This does not lean toward my personal tasted in comedy, but the writing is good.

    1. The layout and use of photos are terrific, as is the picture you have chosen for your header. The font is a bit small for reading longer posts. You write quite well for someone your age. 🙂

      1. 100% agree! How do people do it without complaining? That’s like a staple for me. They go hand and hand, complaining and hiking. Also alcohol definitely makes you have a goal at the end! Isn’t that terrible??!! hahaha.

  4. Advice on adding a feature – I missed Blogging 101, and want to add a fun feature to my blog, but am not sure how to introduce. Am I able to look up past posts about it? Sorry for the amateur question, but, well, I am one!! 🙂

    1. Hey! I enjoyed reading a couple of your blog posts, but I didn’t love reading from a green background. I think your design could be a bit more daydreamy but it is cute 🙂 I’d love to see a blog page with your book recommendations.

I have not taken any other action, but I would urge you to consider social responsibility and ethics in your theme choices.

I do admit to being concerned.

    1. Hi Marie,
I would suggest you complete your About section- that is the first place I go to see who a blogger is and what they are about. Also, try to use a category and a few tags on your posts so they will show up in a topic search. Most importantly, interact with your fellow bloggers, and they will reciprocate.
Your first post is strong and motivating so keep it up!
      Best,
      Karen 🙂
