Community Pool

The Community Pool is for those of you looking for feedback, whether on post ideas, writing, blog design and layout, or anything else.

If you have a post, page, or idea you want to bounce off someone, leave a comment. Your fellow bloggers can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Read on for the ground rules and to leave a comment . .

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • You’ll get the best feedback if you can be as specific as possible about what you’d like people to respond to or where you’re struggling. If you simply leave a link to your blog, it’s likely to be overlooked.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. We’re here to help and support one another, not to beat anyone down.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.

    1. I just took a look at your blog — all posts, including those using the image and video post formats, display dates at the bottom of the post. For those post formats, however, your theme styles the post to focus on the media, so no date is shown near the title. If that’s a major issue, you might explore other themes, or simply insert media into regular posts, where they can also be used and seen.

  1. Hey everyone, I want to try and develop a crowd source ethics, but a little more than just ethical standards, I’d like it to include accepted behavioral norms and justifications that the crowd supply and subscribe to. I’d like it to be forever changing with the changing views of the community but having a solid fundamental underpinning. I’ve called it crowd source religion as it fits exactly the definition of religion. I’m really unsure how to generate support and participation in the project as this is my first move into interacting with the crowd community in this way. Any suggestions, feedback or participation in or for the project would be greatly appreciated. http://wp.me/4OTpB
    thank you

    1. First off – you don’t need to impress people on here. Like your post says we’re all human and we’re all different. I think everyone here is pretty positive and affirming. And just putting yourself out there – I’m already impressed. Many do not. For me I have one small criticism: break up your text more. I don’t like large blocks of text – I tend to “skim” when I see that. Break it up with paragraphs or even pictures! But that’s just me. What you’ve written is good and I enjoyed reading it. 🙂

  3. Hey! I am looking advice for a new idea I have. I want to start a lifestyle blog with a friend. However we are having hard time coming up with a good name. Any suggestions how to come up with a name?

    1. Combine your names somehow. Play on words that are about lifestyles. Rhyming. It’s hard to say because I don’t know what your blog is really about – what kind of “lifestyle”? Narrow it down, but then make your name seem broader. Does that make sense? LOL Good luck!

  4. Hello all, I would like you all to tell me if the positioning of widgets on my sidebar is right. I have a lot of buttons and widgets. Do you think any of it is unnecessary or the positions need to be changed? Let me know what you as a reader would want to change in my blog.

    1. I like the layout of your site. The only thing I would suggest is moving up the “follow blog by email” widget. I have many of the same widgets on my blog so I think you’re on the right track! LOL

  5. Hey all! I would LOVE some advice on my blog. I just started it today as preparation for a huge adventure that I’ll soon be undertaking. I’m leaving my quiet suburb of manhattan to live on a boat for a year with my boyfriend and travel from Maine to Antigua. I’ll be missing my senior year of college and graduating a year behind my classmates in order to seize this opportunity. I created the blog as a means to keep my loved ones in the loop while I’m away. I feel as though my blog may not have as much voice as I’m looking to emulate. Any and all feedback is welcome! 6. Hi Everyone,
I’m Kim and a total newbie at this. I’m also a tad ,um, technology deficient. So obviously this is my first blog. Is there any advice you guys could give me, or anything you’d change? One thing I’m having problems with is my widgets. Are they best down at the bottom, and is there a way to change the background color from black or is it supposed to look like that? I feel like such an idiot!

    1. Haha, I just read your post after I posted my own one. I basically have all the same problems. Blogging is scary!

      1. When you reblog a post it becomes a post in its own right on your blog — which means that you can delete it like any other post. Go to your Posts page in your dashboard; when you hover over the post in question, you’ll see the option to “Trash” it appear.

  7. Hey guys, just made an account today. I’m a little [ok, massively] overwhelmed by the massive scope of this site. It’s so big, with so many people and links to other people and other links. I’ve managed to find this community pool and I think I will reside here until it’s safe to go back out into the vast blogosphere. As I’m new, is there any essential things I should know or do? Any blogs I should follow, or changes/ refinements I should make to my account? I’m feel like I’m drowning lol.
Also, does it help to have a theme? I feel like I’m the only person who’s blog is all over the place with no real direction or focus.

      1. Yeah I know what you mean, perhaps it’ll naturally become more refined as I use it more, but for now I’ll keep it messy. Thank you! Haha, I was inspired when I seen a fly hammering itself endlessly against my window pane, despite the window being open above it, it’s sad, they’re so determined :(.

  8. Hai guys! I had an idea today, and I want some feedback :D. I was thinking… lots of people will never know the thrill of galloping on a horse, or the gentleness of a mother cat, or the softness of a lamb’s coat. I thought maybe me and some of my farming friends could start a blog together. It would be filled with pictures and detailed descriptions of little things such as the way a branch waves, or the funny way a chicken “talks.” I hope people will be freed by this:) Here is my blog, please comment and give me feedback for this idea. Thank you!

    Welcome!

  9. Hi there, I recently decided that I wanted to try starting up an Automotive blog. What I’m going for is a humorous take on car experiences that i have as well as current topics that I find interesting. I am having trouble when it comes to over thinking the topics and i find that I have long lulls without any posts. I am also wondering what the best way to promote my blog would be and how i could draw in some followers. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Suggestions and critiques are fantastic as well.

  10. I’ve recently revamped my whole blog. I’ve changed it into something different from what it was. What do you think of the first post? Grammar has always been a struggle for me. I can write, but then when I write a blog I almost always have an incomplete sentence here or a grammar mistake there.

  11. Hi wonderful bloggers. I wrote a short poem about oppressed people all over the world. With the Gaza drowning in war, and so many other nations still fighting for freedom, it almost seems unreal. Until you actually imagine yourself in their shoes. Then things get clearer. Or at least the numbness goes away for a while. What do you guys think? Would love your feedback and thoughts here.

  12. Let me try this again. I’ve been blogging for a week now. It is scary, but the process is forcing me to focus on my memory and my writing chops. Here’s what I’d like some feedback on: how do I broaden my scope? If I write what I know I’m going to run out of blog posts pretty soon. Also let me know how I can be more concise. I find I’m often just too wordy. Thanks in advance! My page is nananoyes5forme.wordpress.com.
