Community Pool

The Community Pool is for those of you looking for feedback, whether on post ideas, writing, blog design and layout, or anything else.

If you have a post, page, or idea you want to bounce off someone, leave a comment. Your fellow bloggers can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Read on for the ground rules and to leave a comment . .

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • You’ll get the best feedback if you can be as specific as possible about what you’d like people to respond to or where you’re struggling. If you simply leave a link to your blog, it’s likely to be overlooked.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. We’re here to help and support one another, not to beat anyone down.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Dear all,

I’m a bit perplexed – I’ve been blogging away for over a year, but I just don’t get the visits from fellow bloggers. I’m thinking that it’s possibly because I’ve become too self-absorbed with writing and self-publishing a book? It’s probably a dilemma that many indie writers have, or have I forgotten some widget or another? Or…
Anyway, I’d really appreciate your comments and advice on how I could “loosen-up” with my content, or else learn to press the right buttons 😉

    1. Heather,

You blog appears to be fine. Really the only thing I could think is to ask, how often do you go out and just read other people’s blogs and comment?

    2. I have the same issue…too much life, too much writing and too much social media. I tend to follow other writers and am now trying to diversify and comment on non-writing blogs, hoping the link to my blog will bring new readers. It’s a fine line for sure…

    1. I love your first blog! (The non-poetry one) & I love the fact that you post a lot of pics 🙂 your background is beautiful, too and I love the widgets. Make sure to upload a pic of your prom shoes!
If you’d like to make it more interesting….maybe talk about really random funny things that happen to while you’re out on your trips, I know I’d love reading them 🙂
Sorry for the extremely long comment. Lol

      1. Thats fine and awww I will have too! Yeah I know from experience that reading a chunk of writing can be awfully boring and am glad that you like it! And don’t worry I have a lot of really random things that happen to me on a regular basis! 🙂 and as for the long comment, it’s better than a short one and makes me smile! 🙂

  4. Hello everyone! I hope you are having a nice Sunday afternoon! 🙂 I use Twenty Eleven theme on my blog, and I would like to be able to change the color of the post titles. Will I be able to do that if I pay $30 and upgrade to “custom design”? Any suggestion…?

    1. Hello! The answer is yes — part of the Custom Design upgrade is Custom Colors, which lets you control the color scheme of your site, including the headings. It also includes Custom CSS — in case you’re comfortable using CSS, this lets you make almost any imaginable tweak to your site’s design.

    1. Tag your posts effectively, and when you’re looking for feedback be more specific as to what you’re wanting feedback for, tell a little about your blog as I usually scroll past people who just leave links…comment on other blogs, and write on topics that are recent and relevant to today, (it helps looking at the most popular tags used)….yup that’s all for now 🙂 hope I’ve helped, haven’t been blogging for a long time, just like 2 months. Good luck!!!!

  6. Hi everyone,
A week ago I asked for help with my second blog whose cite address is:- december18blog.wordpress.com which ended up having two side bars which makes it look clumsy. I am grateful for the help I got from sheketechad but I am still not able to delete one of the side bars any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  7. I’m on year three of this blog design and wonder if it’s a bit tired or outdated? Working hard to gain more followers who are readers as opposed to writers. Recently added the Motivation Monday posts, folks seem to like those.

    1. I like the content, some “rambling” blogs really do work. If you’re happy not to have a theme or a subject of your blog then don’t worry about it. Your niche will come to you in time

      1. Thanks for the advice! This is my first blog so just getting the feel for things at the moment. I’m just trying a few things out and I’m sure I’ll find my niche.
        Thanks a million!

    1. You could probably do with a bit more information about your life, build a sense of emotion – make people care about you and your story. It’s true that readers like a succinct About page, but they also like to have a window into the soul of the blogger.
