Community Pool

The Community Pool is for those of you looking for feedback, whether on post ideas, writing, blog design and layout, or anything else.

If you have a post, page, or idea you want to bounce off someone, leave a comment. Your fellow bloggers can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Read on for the ground rules and to leave a comment.

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • You’ll get the best feedback if you can be as specific as possible about what you’d like people to respond to or where you’re struggling. If you simply leave a link to your blog, it’s likely to be overlooked.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. We’re here to help and support one another, not to beat anyone down.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. ‘Why would people care what you have to say?’ is what my pessimistic dad told me when I told him about my movie review blog. I would sit in front of the tv or in the cinema, pen and paper at hand, while getting strange looks from everyone, including my family. Regardless, I enjoy it. Rather than just critiquing, I relish in reading subtext in movies and, hopefully, pass it onto my audience. Check out my blog and please tell me what I could improve on; word count, layout, pictures, posts themselves. You name it. I would greatly appreciate it.

  2. hello all! i have a month old blog at http://www.whywelikethat.com focusing on psychology and behavioural economics. Right now I have a couple of posts related to marketing and how marketing techniques entice us to buy things. I have found that psychology related stuff on the net either is dry and academic or is misinterpreted, so my aim in this blog is to present psychology in a accessible and relatable way.

I’ll like to know what you guys think! Am I on the right track with achieving my aim with these posts?

    1. Hi Joshua. I like the idea of your blog. I’ll be on the lookout for decoys thanks to your last post. I’m not sure who your target audience is, but for me, it reads a little too much like a textbook. Since I had already figured it out by “So what was the point of the second option?” I would have loved it if you just left it at that and ended with “The decoy effect often tricks us into buying stuff we do not need. Marketing win for the company; boo for you wasting money.” Short thinkable thoughts on this subject would achieve your aim and really appeal to me.

      1. thank you for your feedback! i don’t have a specific target audience in mind but the general aim is to make the topics more accessible and ‘fun’, while maintaining its academic credentials.

i will aim to polish up the writing to make it more concise 🙂 thanks for stopping by! ,

    1. Hi Shane. Stay consistent in your tag line. Transitioning from a girl to a woman or from girls to women. Also, try to make the most of each sentence. You seem to have a nice personality that will endear people to you. Just keep working at crafting your sentences.

  4. Any feedback on anything I manage to force onto the page is always welcome. I’m sure i’m not alone in finding it daunting putting writing out into the world, yet amazing when someone you’ve never met reads it (and better yet actually likes it!).

    1. Hi Bruce. I like the brevity and the poetry of your posts. The pictures are nice, too. The only thing that would keep me from coming back for more is that they touch my mind but not my heart. I wonder if there is a way to keep your style and do both.

  5. I’ve recently started a blog. I find it to be absolutely fun. I was wondering if you have any ideas as to how to promote my blog, how to write better, who I come across, and just any general suggestions you might have after visiting my site (http://karpalism.wordpress.com). I really put myself out there. My friends like my writing style, but I’m curious what someone might think who doesn’t know me. Thanks so very much!!
